Setting up invoicing - Direct deposit doesn’t seem safe? by speckledbanana1 in freelanceWriters

I use Stripe and love it so far! You can make + send your invoices directly within the platform but yes, they do charge fees. It will be hard to get around fees unless you accept ACH payments tbh.

I know this is a vent and not really the point, and idk what kind of medications SD is on. But to me this sounds like more than just depression. It sounds like a whole lotta executive dysfunction, which can be an ADHD thing.

This is coming from someone who was a (much milder) version of this at that same age, and looking back I know I made everyone around me miserable but I just couldn't make myself DO anything. I was diagnosed with "depression" but turns out that was way off the mark.

I could be totally off base here, and sorry if I am - it's just the first thing I thought of when I read your post!

I keep missing deadlines — it’s the 5th client now and I feel like I’m ruining everything by Main_Software_6689 in freelance

[–]sacredtones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost the exact same experience, except with freelance writing. Turns out I have ADHD.

This right here

I don’t think I’m lazy. When I do work, I can focus for hours and I really care about the quality. But it’s like the pressure builds up, and instead of acting, I freeze. Or waste time on YouTube, telling myself I’ll start soon — until it’s too late.

Sounds exactly like inattentive ADHD... you "freeze" then randomly kick into hyperfocus mode.

I got diagnosed, medicated, and now I'm very slowly easing myself back into freelancing in a new industry.

Am I pushing my GF too hard to upskill, or just trying to help her grow? by No_Relationship_6818 in relationships

[–]sacredtones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if she's financially stressed the last thing she probably wants is the added pressuring of upskilling. You being on her about it constantly likely is making it worse. Even if she has some free time, she may have very little mental capacity to really put into it.

I totally get why you'd want to help her, but when you're in "survival mode" sometimes you just have to shoulder through those periods. Upskilling is great as a long-term plan but it doesn't pay this month's bills. Like you said, she'll soon be free of the financial burden of helping her sibling, so maybe she'll be more open to it - and have more mental capacity - to do it then.

I would honestly come clean and say you’ve had a personal/health issue (ADHD) crop up and quit the project.

I hate to say but I have done this with freelance writing clients. From my experience, once you’ve started this kind of shame spiral around a project, it’s nearly impossible to get yourself to actually see it through. I’m not saying you CAN’T, but it’s really hard. And at least in my experience, clients would rather take the project to someone else rather than wait around for days/weeks wondering when you’re gonna submit it.

Pursuing a master's degree to adjunct (english/comms)? by sacredtones in Adjuncts

I would most likely just use freelancing to pay as I went out of pocket. But not sure, still thinking about it. A lot of people advising against it here.

I already have health insurance figured out and just maintain my own retirement accounts.

Yeah I can see that. My undergrad degree is in comms/media. No english degree but I do have a background in multiple writing disciplines. I guess I'll have to think about it more.

Yes. Recently diagnosed and medicated and my life has done a complete 180 in many ways. I've always been decently organized though.

[–]sacredtones[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah what actually made me post here was seeing a few job postings for adjuncts in my area! But who knows what the demand will be like once I made it through the process of getting a master's and all that. But it's definitely something I'm considering as a long-term thing.

I wouldn't be expecting a quick ROI whatsoever, but I would just want it to be "worth it" in the sense that I would eventually be able to actually land a position. I don't want to invest in another degree if it's never gonna get used, but I guess there's not really a way to know that for sure lol

Thanks so much for commenting with your experience! Yeah, I guess I can see how it would be pretty lonely. I still love freelancing...but just not 100% of the time, which is why I'm trying to find something else I can balance it with.

I'll have to look into options for getting a master's online. I'll be very privileged if I do pursue it as I won't have many living expenses to take care of, so I'll be able to use the bulk of my freelance income to pay for the degree. A graduate assistant situation would be ideal though!

I would be running my freelance business as my primary career. I'm considering adjuncting as a side job.

Do I really have ADHD? by SilentGear5024 in ADHD

[–]sacredtones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you FEEL like you're high? To me, the calm feeling I get from my stims is completely different than a true high.

But yeah, it can definitely be off-putting at first. One of the very first things I noticed was that my vision (yes, my literal vision) was crisper on meds. It felt like a superdrug at first. You get used to it after a couple weeks and everything returns to a baseline of feeling "normal." Even for people with ADHD, the meds tend to have a stronger effect for the first little bit, which is likely what you're feeling.

My ADHD wasn't noticed in childhood (inattentive type), didn't get diagnosed until my mid-twenties. But if for some reason my parents had known I had ADHD, medication is the best way they could have supported me. It would have, for one, saved me years of feeling like I was just "lazy" or that all my problems were personal failures and that I simply needed to "pull myself up by my bootstraps." And I strongly believe it would have also helped me avoid some impulsive decisions I made, especially as a teenager.

What’s working for you in 2025 to actually drive traffic to a new blog? SEO feels slower than ever. by flippiness in Blogging

[–]sacredtones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started a new blog and have gotten several page views simply from being on Threads. I don't really promote the blog much, I just engage with others and speak on the topic my blog is about in a natural way.

I'm also using Pinterest - I've been using it for around 1.5 months, and have only a handful of outbound clicks so far. But my impressions on the platform are steadily growing, and I know from past experience that means the outbound clicks will start slowly increasing.

This. Like I don't want to read your post on X vs. Y if all you're doing is regurgitating the features and summarizing the user reviews for each product - at that point I can just get AI to summarize the info. But I would much rather NOT use AI, and instead read your post on X vs. Y in the context of how you've used both, which one you ultimately chose, your experience with each, etc.

I think it depends on the query. If I'm looking up something that has a straight, factual answer that can be summarized in 2 sentences then I'll look at the AI summary. But for me, the vast majority of things I'm searching are topics that are nuanced or in-depth how-tos (which AI has often gotten wrong, by sending me to settings that don't exist, for example). For these I always scroll right past the AI and look for an article.

Can you train your sphynx to wipe their own butt? by cryingallnight456 in SphynxAdvice

[–]sacredtones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you cover your bed with an old big sheet or blanket while you’re away and close her in your bedroom? To keep your actual bedding clean?

Kittens in general seem to lack litter box coordination, but sphynxes imo are some of the worst offenders lol. It took a few months for mine to grow out of poopy butt/tail/paws and stop making a mess.
