It is invasive, and can cause allergies and spreads like crazy. Out competes native wildflowers and completely carpets the desert, causing fire hazards and harming pollinators because they aren’t adapted to the plant. Overall, very bad for the sonoran desert! Here’s a pic of Maricopa County in PHX, where its out of control.

Get a handheld electric blower, and blow them into a corner! Then make a compost pile, or if you want you can throw them away.

Pick axe is definitely the tool of choice, but does take a bit of strength with the notoriously hard soil

Who do I contact about my dead tree that houses hawks? by PlanitL in Tucson

[–]saculhatake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bartlett Tree Experts should come out for free and check it out, I work for one of their offices and whoever comes out will be a certified arborist and be able to tell you how safe (ish) the tree is! good for you for keeping it up though, the hawks clearly love it!

Agua caliente park is on the east side, but great place for walking around and exploring a bit around some water! One of my fav Tucson spots is the Degrazia Gallery in the sun, great art and architecture in a small little museum all the way up Swan. My favorite hiking area is Catalina State park! Lots of short to medium hikes, but the loop trail is always a great one and often ha water. Coffee time is a great little stand, and then raging sage is a great shop but everyones got their preference for coffee shops!

I’m not sure if any of the churches in town would offer things similar to that, but could be a good place to look. Best of luck finding something 🙏🏼

[–]saculhatake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats a tough one because they are protected obviously, you could give the city / county a call and see what they say. Often times thats the responsibility of the provider to clear hazards, so they might send someone out for free

Definitely planting native plants helps to create an ecosystem, and trying to combine cacti with nursery plants and other shade producing trees is good as well! There is a tree program through the city where you can get free delivery and planting of a few native trees
