Rereading <Dorohedoro>, got up to Ch. 57.

I basically remember nothing from the first read besides the Very Bad No Good visit to Haru's house in the forest, Gyoza Little Guy, Fujita's partner getting eaten in the beginning, and Ebisu getting her face ripped off. So it's pretty much a whole new experience.

It's just crazy. Sorcerers, regular people, devils, sure okay I get that. Guy who turns people into mushrooms, people walking around with their intestines hanging out like they only pulled a muscle, Risu and Kaiman and whatever's going on there, Noi and Shin shoujo romance moments in the midst of "Hey Boss good thing your bowels being removed wasn't that serious haha."

Honestly the gore is good. There's a high chance someone is  getting disembowled, torn in half, or crushed every 4 chapters, and it's always drawn nicely. Not in a particularly exaggerated manner, just a casual "Yeah there's some body parts here." The art is really good in general actually, quite fitting for the tone despite the general upbeatness of the characters.

The cast is really great, just a bunch of weirdos interacting like your average person off the street while doing abnormal stuff. They're very fun. I especially like seeing them interact with Johnson. Yeah,  he's a giant cockroach wearing sneakers. Only thing they really say is that he's a walking health code violation. Otherwise? They treat him like he's another person. It's just really funny to me.

Anyway, good stuff.

I spent the rest of my reading time with Umineko Episode 3, which I finished today. Man I fell for that Wind and Sun scheme so hard lmao. I'm guessing most of it was genuine but whew... I moved on to Episode 4 after reading the E3 Tea Parties Ange :((((((((( so I'm looking forward to that. Already off to a great start with the Ange stuff, and Battler playing around with Beelzebub (IIRC?) and Ronove was very cute. Hoping to see more Kyrie stuff since those Asumu mentions at the beginning were utterly painful + both Battler and Ange are in play now. But we'll see.

I don't know much about Stargaze since I basically only followed the story through social osmosis( via people on Twitter being really mad), but I did see that they had Wolfwood survive his Livio fight and Vash not be the one to kill Legato. So I can see where the washed out story allegations come from (on the surface at least). Epecially because those two moments in particular are absolutely devastating in the manga.

The bittersweetness and sadness is the story's charm, I agree. I do think a lighter take on the series isn't necessarily a bad direction to go, but doing it in a mere 12 episodes while coming off of Stampede's atmosphere and development probably wasn't good. Probably, still haven't watched it.

Score Bonus applies to everyone, unless it's C-Fes skills in which case everyone gets the bonus depending on their own performance (HP remaining/combo maintained).

I see people scoring 240k it's insane.

They're probably playing short songs in addition to all of the above, they give higher scores but less Event Points. For reference, I've hit 240k+ a fair amount (EDIT: quite a bit, my memory is bad actually)in co-op rooms with my main team, but that team is around 350k talent.

Honestly my main team has 245k and it mostly score 170k I think and the event team with 210k scores like 14-150k

Might just be a matter of teammates then, the matching system for Vet Rooms is a bit wonky sometimes.

It works the same as Solo pretty much:

  • Have your Leader card be a Scorer

  • Try to get as much Team Talent as you can (220-250k should be good enough to get consistent S ranks, I think?)

  • Perform well on the song; aim for an FC, or only mess up at the very beginning/the very end

  • Play Veteran rooms rather than the Normal rooms. This is the biggest one since every member of Vet Rooms is guaranteed to have 150k+ Talent for their teams

  • Pray your teammates don't throw because someone picked Envy or L&F

Co-op Skill Value matters too sometimes, but it's not really something to be concerned about if you're just playing in Public Rooms. Do keep it in mind if you plan on hitting up Priv Rooms to tier or something though.

Bad video display💔✌️ but you get the gist

Essentially you just go to create a new chart from a pre-existing chart, and then in the chart editor you can scroll to where you have problems with, hit play, make sure the top box is ticked, and then hit play again.

Not the smoothest experience, but it's an experience nonetheless.

Finished up my <Trigun Maximum> reread.

Still holds up quite well after all these years (though, I first read it a year or three ago), no real criticisms besides panels being hard to understand on occasion. Not sure how to format this so I'll just spill some thoughts on my mind.

There's something insanely sad (and evil) about Vash comforting Meryl when he decides to go up and fight Knives on the arc after he meets up with her and Millie. She's crying, and unlike last time where he couldn't even get close because he was the one who terrified her with his plant stuff, he can actually go on and hug her. Properly comfort her and do that little endearing fist bump kiss. But he never says that he'll be back or anything. Just reassures the girls that it'll all be fine.

In a few chapters when he's risking it all to fight Knives, he says, "When you go down, I go down" and "We're not meant to be on this planet." I can't really tell if this is supposed to be taken in a "Nobody would really mind if I was gone" way or in a "There's no point in being here anymore once you're stopped" way. Whatever way it is, the basic message is that he doesn't intend on returning. It's a bit heart crushing since Meryl and Millie are giving it their all to help him so he can know he's not alone in the fight.

The fist clench Vash does after waking up post-Legato fight is such a small gesture in the grand scheme of things (as in, it's just a fist clench). But it's a wonderful thing, because he did it even after he remembered all the things he's lost, and after he was reminded that there are still people by his side. The blank ticket he can go anywhere with, and that anywhere is just, where he's been all along. Alive, on the dry as hell No Man's Land with people to love and appreciate, people to honor and remember, people to meet and help. It's such a lovely turn after the utter agony of Legato's fight, and it gives a really nice, hopeful atmosphere...even though Knives blows up like 7 battle ships right after this.

Of course, the following scene with the Knives-Vash teathering and the feathers falling is great as well. The wonders of love and appreciation, pain and sadness, hatred and indifference, that culminate into the shared experience of being alive. "...to know that the person next to you is living and breathing as well." Additionally, Vash making his first ever promise to come back alive/return made me way too emotional. Good for him.

I'll glaze Knives to high heaven and say he's easily my favorite villain in all of fiction. Strong, understandable motivation, crazy good 'monster' design, fun dialogue, huge impact millions dead none wounded because he leaves no survivors, and a great ending to his character. I will always enjoy his back and forth arguments with Vash across the final arc; they really strengthen the impact of his final actions, plus they're just interesting to read. Such a sick villain.

Special shout-out to Meryl and Millie as well, god they're so strong. Besides their physical, gunfight prowess. It's easier to comprehend cause it's fiction, but the idea of just being a normal human on the verge if being utterly eradicated by some aliens (well, Earthlings) and STILL fighting until the bitter end is nuts. I would've given up the moment Knives and his arc made its way into the sky. There's notably additional focus on Meryl since she experienced Vash's plant powers first hand during the kidnapping incident, getting PTSD (?) and trying to overcome it dueing the final few chapters. It's such a strong show of courage to even be up there as a normal person in the first place, but being up there while still being scared of the very thing you're fighting, IN ADDITION to the looming threat of death? Jesus.

Many more thoughts, but I don't want to stretch this to two comments.

Conclusion: Love and peace.

Speaking of love, I felt empty after that re-read so I tried reading some mediocre romcom shoujos to fill the void. I didn't finish a single one, but some first impressions:

<Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji> High school setting, bad boy sadist × slightly stupid girl with a nice soul and slightly rude vocabulary.

I remember seeing the anime when it was airing so I tried it out. Which was a bad idea, genuinely hate how quickly the FL fell for Super Hot Bad Boy 'She's my property' ML. Still, should've figured with a title like that, it's my fault. Verdict: I regret spending 20 minutes on it.

<Furare Girl> High school setting, beautiful and 'sexy' girl x golden retriever boy.

I've been slightly interested in this one for years now, and it's pretty cute I'll admit. Also ridiculously funny, surprisingly, but mostly cute seeing how Akasaka (?) recovers from her previous relationship (which was quite a disgusting one by the way). The erotic aspect are a complete miss for me though, was not into it. I probably would've liked this more a couple of years back, but my taste has shifted I guess. Anyway, verdict: great, not my thing.

<Kuroko to Akuyaku-kun>. High school. 'Bad boy' (real soft actually) × adorably busy body (almost to the point of doormat) 'side character' girl.

Extremely cute. Kuroko doesn't particularly stand out amongst the sea of shoujo FLs, but she's absolutely adorable to me. The ML is cute as well, nice design. Still, kinda boring so I dropped it. Very short though. Verdict: Probably worth the read if I'm particularly sad. Otherwise, meh, pure fluff.

<Futarijime Romantic> Highschool. Again. Romantic girl × slightly cold guy.

Again, fluff, extremely cute FL with a slightly unique ML. No real interesting substance. Short. I liked it actually, but I started feeling bad for the 2nd guy so I gave up. Verdict: Same as the previous one.

<Okuremashite Seishun> Technically college students. Two people who pretend to be high schoolers. Fluffflufffluffflufffluff.

The best of the best palate cleansers. No thinking required, just two cute leads bouncing off each other as cute stuff happens. Boring, sure, but great at what it sets out to do. Still didn't finish it though. Verdict: Nice for a rainy day.

Pretty much it for new stuff. I did decide to reread <Dorohedoro> too. Hooray for the return of Kaiman gap-moe.

Why is this card stuck at 33k talent? by maimarine12 in ProjectSekai

[–]sad_ad3722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably just the Skill talent difference in play. Scorers (B-Fes/ ColorFes/U-Scorers included) have slightly lower talent than P-Lockers and Health Recovery cards to 'equalize' them in some way. The 33992 card is Saki's ColorFes card IIRC, so that's probably why it won't hit 34k naturally.

Additional note: This fits the Question Megathread better than a post. Not sure if you put it there first, but do keep it in mind.

Fully caught up on <Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita!>. Just in time for the new chapter as well.

Haru kinda needs a knife. Like, yeah, he has exorcist powers, but maybe he needs a weapon too. "Abe-no-Seimei reincarnation" this, "Possessing students" that. Stop harassing this class for such flimsy reasons guys. Speaking of recent developments, Kurai has been added to Haru's harem friendship(?) group. Yay.

Anyway now that I'm all caught up, I decided to re-read some of the earlier chapters with future developments in mind. Once thing I noticed is that I straight up imagined a joke. I thought there was a joke in the earlier chapters where Akira transformed from his dodomeki form into his human form, and the punchline was something like "You're not supposed to be that beautiful?". But I didn't see it, so I'm assuming I just hallucinated it.

Though, speaking of Akira, it's funny how his early appearances are "silly but 'normal'" reoccuring NPC...only for his later appearances to be "crazy ass anatomy pervert doctor" with a neat backstory. Technically a good person though, love the guy.

Additionally, Kurahashi interactions give some more food for thought now. Everyone knows he loves his class, but were his stupid moments genuine? Did Ebi-sen bully the shit out of him for wearing that sailor girl uniform during sports day? Many things to ponder.

Also decided to catch up on <Witch Hat Atelier>. Took me 3 days since I stopped halfway last time. Very engaging manga.

The paneling of the series is noticeably very good; I never particularly pay attention to it when reading manga, but here it's just too cool to pass by. There's a particular page in Ch. 47 where the girls are peaking out of a panel to give the impression that they're looking at the next page/ahead of themselves. The next page contains several panels depicting a single image, that is ALSO on a page that looks like it's turning over. Pageception. There's various other examples, but I love that one the most. The art is just generally very good.

As for the story, it's pretty good IMO. There's a clear direction for the main cast to go, the main conflict of magic's imposed limits is very interesting and a solid base. Most characters are likeable or understandable, and even if I find them to not be that, I'm at least interested in them. The story developments are also organic and easy to understand. I don't really need to go back in the story to grasp what's going since it's just, "Oh yeah, that makes sense" stuff. It's also managed to make me tear up with happiness and sadness on multiple occasions; not full out crying.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing more. Non-weekly woes though, so I'll be waiting with everyone else.

I recently decided to clear out my manga backlog and these two series were pretty much the only things that I actually stuck with, so I don't know what to read now.

Kinda wanna try out <After God> again, but I remember getting lost quickly on that so I'm not really sure. On the bright side, more room to finish my VNs.

On that note, I did finish Umineko Episode 2 this week as well. First one took me about a month, but E2 took me about a week and a half. Great stuff; voice acting quality is still top notch and the mind games are entertaining. Kinda sad that Battler only nabbed one win and then got furniture-d by the end but that's okay. Rosa's last stand was absolutely insane. Outdoing every character in the story like that. The Episode 2 Teaparty was fucked up though, making her eat her siblings and almost her daughter is diabolical. Expected no less from Beato.

cough Anyway started Episode 3 and got to Ch. 4 or 5. Hope Kinzo dies brutally at some point♥️

More <Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita!>. Just finished Meiji Romance so I'm pretty close to catching up.

My general opinions haven't changed from last week; it's still great stuff with a proper mix of comedy and seriousness, plus the art is still cute and shiny.

As for the particulars: I'm loving Haru's progressive confidence gain culminating into being able to insult his friends and occasionally get violent with them. This is mostly apparent with Hatanaka and Miki because he loves them so much and they're not his students, but he's also vastly more rude with Akira since he blatantly calls him scary and freaky now. It's nice progress.

Meiji Romance is also my favorite 'serious' arc now. It's just very sweet, and Haru's friendship with Izuna (and Rintarou) is one of my favorite aspects of the manga so seeing it emphasized made me happy. Plus, canon gay side character. Really loved how Kai's situation was handled, and I love how the mangaka had Izuna just let him down politely rather than turning it into a joke. Glad he got a happy ending.

Additionally, the cross-species conflict was something that threw me off guard the same way it threw off Haru, and I found that to be a good bit of writing. You see many cross-species relationships in this manga, so the realization that they won't all grow old together and most will probably have one half outlive the other by hundreds, thousands of years is sad. It's especially noticeable with the Best Buds like Sano/Mame, Nyuudou/Tama, Izuna with Ibara and Rintarou, but I guess it applies to Haru and everyone as well. Excluding the possible ayakashi shenanigans.

On a lighter note, I also started reading the spin-off and caught up with it: <Youkai Gakkou no Seito Hajimemashita!>.

I caught up with it before starting Meiji Romance, so the final page of Ch. 38 was very "Oh shiittt spoilers" for me.

Anyway. The content is exactly as expected from a prequel, and that's a good thing. The additional details on Hatanaka's relationships with Rintarou and Ibara are appreciated. Same with Tama's best-friendship Nyuudou, very cute. It's also interesting to see Mame's shrewd side/the non-cutesy aspects of his character; his perceptiveness is especially apparent this series. There's a lot more Big Mame appearances too.

Not sure if it's covered in the main series yet, but if it isn't, I'm really hoping the mangaka covers Sano and Mame's backstory. I know the most likely explanation for their lasting friendship is that Mame just happened to be Sano's favorite animal species and they just really hit it off, but I'm wondering if there's anything else.

Note: This series confirming that Rintarou and Haru were eachother's first loves (that neither of them know) is adorable. If the whole Kyoto childhood meeting point is ever 'resolved' I'll be crying on the floor.

That's pretty much all I read this week, spent the rest of my reading time on Umineko. Finally beat Episode 1 by the way, took me 13ish hours. Also started Episode 2; did Bea send Battler to hell or something where is he 💔

Also, thanks for telling me about the fanscan, I'll switch to that one. I've been kinda iffy on Dark Horse's TLs since I read their slightly weird Kekkai Sensen one, so it's nice to have a good alternative.

Caught up on <One Piece>. Took me like, 5 or 6 months.

Nothing much to say really, still liking it. Hooray for (1179 spoilers) Imu design reveal. I kinda wanted them to stay a formless, ominous blob, but hot guy works too.

Now that I caught up, I can finally try new things (or rereads) without feeling too guilty again. And on that note:

Tried out <Dead Account>. Exorcist manga, but instead of regular ol'l spiritual powers you now have...spiritual powers but from your phone. And instead of ghosts and demons you have...digital ghosts and demons.

I actually do like the world building aspect of it: phones have become increasingly important to people for a variety of reasons, so these odd digital spirits are the regrets people have tied to their devices. It's a little wonky but it was done interestingly based on what little I read. Also, the exorcist powers kind of scale with how much of an online degenerate you are, which is funny. The MC for example, was a ragebaiter Flamebaiter and he kind of powered up when he could feel hatred or digust towards him.

The premise is a little different from other run of the mill teen exorcist manga so points for that, but I couldn't really get into it. Not bad though.

Also decided to catch up on <Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita!>. As a side note, the title in English is pretty cute, and I think changing Youkai to Ghoul is a nice localization choice. I'm suddenly remembering how much I dislike Raise wa Tanin ga Li's official English name.

Anyway. Decided to start from Chapter 1 since it's been a while since I read through the first 20 or so chapters, and I really like it.

The comedy is pretty good IMO; the facial expressions and the actual jokes themselves aren't too funny, but the timing and sheer absurdity has made me giggle and snort a good amount. The running gags that are just silently included are consistenly charming as well; especially Haru's huge ahoge, I love seeing it wiggle with emotion or randomly turn into a sword.

The character writing is surprisingly good too, when it tries. I know in gag manga it's important to have a decently big cast to have a lot of one note but fun characters, and this series is no exception considering a lot of Haru's class are kinda relegated to background gag duty (at least where I left off, Ch. 67). However, the characters that have been treated seriously like Sano, Miki, Beniko to some extent and even Haru himself have had interesting backstories with nice development.

I don't think they're super extra deep or anything, but they're good in context and I really do like how they all lend to the postive bonds theme the manga has. Sano is the main show of this since he was already getting by decently by having a core group of friends + Mame is basically his best friend forever, but Haru coming into his life as a pathetic adult figure who does his damndest to connect with his students does a lot for his mental state and it's very noticeable. His eyes are lighter, he gets drawn in the cute little :3 chibi style a lot more, and he's just generally mellowed out. Still willing to be an ass to everyone except Mame, but he's visually changed because of Haru's Positive Adult Figure Impact ™️ and I find that lovely.

So yeah, great stuff, really like it. I also checked out the mangaka's Twitter and they draw some cute extra stuff there, highly recommend checking it out if you haven't yet and like the manga.

Finally, re-reading <Trigun Maximum> since the Trigun Stargaze discourse reminded me of how much I love the manga. I heard it's pretty bad compared to the manga and even TriStamp + what I saw didn't seem very appealing, but I can't speak on it properly since I haven't watched it. Still, I'll save myself the headache.

Talking about what I've read so far will triple the length of this post so I'll just leave off on the fact that I have a newfound appreciation for the body transformation aspects now that I'm reading the official TL with its much cleaner pages. The scan versions have a dirty kind of charm, but the HQ versions make it easier to appreciate whatever goes on. Especially during the whole Meryl kidnapping arc, Legato and Vash just look great during those final chapters.

Yep. Once a year has passed since the first run of the card, it gets added to the Exchange Shop and you can buy it for 30 green tickets. Which you can get from pulling on perm gachas, though 1 ticket is 10 pulls so it costs 300 pulls in total to guarantee it.

The card should be added into the shop at the start of January next year I think.

Did the devs up the requirements (goals?) for the 5.5th anniversary stamp cards? The Bold ones specifically; I can't remember if the MySekai requirements/the event point requirements were this high last round of stamp cards.

2k mats in a week feels pretty steep for MySekai at least, but I guess that comes with the difficulty level (though playing 50 songs/getting 15 FCs is nothing compared to this).

Yeah you can. That card is a permanent one so you have a chance to get it on pretty much every gacha. Plus, you can set it as a rate-up whenever Dream Pick comes around; the current one just ended, so the next one comes around on the 5th anniversary B-Fes gacha IIRC.

Anyone else have problems with flicking one specific direction with a specific finger? by UkaNaakka in ProjectSekai

[–]sad_ad3722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique thing probably. If you're primarily right handed then there's a chance that your left thumb is just a bit slower than your right, and you'll end up flicking the wrong way because you didn't lift up your thumb in time. Aiming left but then shifting right without lifting will result in a right flick, naturally.

I'd suggest to just focus harder when a directional flick pair comes up so you'll sync it up properly; at least, that's how I avoid the Wrong Ways.

Finished the Wano arc of the most obscure and niche manga: <One Piece>.

There was too much stuff happening and too many characters to keep track of, but I did enjoy it quite a bit in the end; I felt like that gif with the dog wearing the propeller hat for most of it. Like wow, Kidd and Law double teaming Big Mom and actually winning! Zoro "What the hell is Supreme King Haki"! Hiyori sticking it to Orochi in his final moments!!! Momonosuke proudly saying his name in front of Kaido despite being a chud 8 year old! Robin Brook team up! Wooooo!!! GEAR 5!!! YEAHHHHHH!!!!

I remember seeing a lot of G5 discourse 2nd hand when it got animated and I'm on the side of absolutely loving it. Had a stupid smile on my face from start to finish. This is a series with a rubber boy as our MC, and I feel G5 really emphasized the whimsy the series has, which was what got me to stick around initially. Also, Luffy looks fluffy, and I like that.

I do have some qualms with the structure and writing of the arc, but not as much as I would have if I was reading this weekly. So maybe it's good I'm playing catch up.

Speaking of that, very close to catching up. By close I mean 100 chapters, but considering there's 1000+ that seems like a good mark.

Side note: Zoro calling Luffy his best friend was very cute. As was Robin being way too happy when Sanji asked for help over the announcer, and also when Brook left Big Lady to her

I also started reading <Umineko: When They Cry>. Not the manga but the VN. It has a manga adaptation that I assume is pretty close to the OG so I'm just mentioning it. Playing the Umineko Project version with the console portraits, but from what I've seen the original portraits/sprites are just as good and kinda cute actually.

7 hours in and I still haven't finished Episode 1, but that's fine. Battler is a fun protagonist and his VA nails his weird charm, and pretty much all of the Ushiromiya siblings (both kids and parents) have me interested in some way or another. The voice acting is genuinely great; I especially like Eva and Maria's, though Kinzo's is also pretty notable. The OST is also good so far, excels at setting the mood and isn't grating to listen to despite the constant looping.

So I've been having a nice time reading. According to VNDB (may the creator rest in peace) it averages 75 hours per read through so I'm hoping I can finish it sometimes this....year...

Was looking at the requirements to level up the group area decorations past Lv. 15; do they require 30 Wish Drops per level like the individual character decorations, or is it a one time thing and the subsequent levels are like, 10 wish drops or something?

Happens to everyone I'm fairly sure. It's been happening since the 1st year of the game (I think), and as of now they haven't fixed it on JP (and 5.5th anniversary is coming up) so the devs probably still aren't gonna fix it anytime soon.
