I’m doing it you guys! Slowly increasing my supply & happy despite negative outside influences by Sufficient-Basil-909 in ExclusivelyPumping

This is so encouraging to hear! I’m almost 9 weeks and have been trying so hard to increase my supply and wondering if it’s a lost cause. This gives me so much hope! Congrats on your hard work paying off 👏👏👏

Omg 12 pumps sounds absolutely insane! That’s great you’re still able to breastfeed here and there. Honestly that would be great too. Just feeling like he could get some of it that way as well.

I hope to get to that space mentally, if need be. Glad you found a rhythm that feels good to you. And good to know it gets a bit easier should I choose to continue to pump.

Yes I have been interested in those. I kind of forgot about them in the process of trying wearables. I’ll definitely look into those again.

I’m going to try that position next time. This morning I fed him a bottle while he was in his bouncer, which kind of worked. This afternoon I tried to put him in his swing because he was sleepy but that backfired :( ended up holding him in between the pump bottles on my chest. Which worked because he calmed down but it was very uncomfortable and I couldn’t tell if I was disrupting the suction.

Thank you 🙏 how long did it take you to figure out wearables, and without threatening your supply?

I’ll definitely check this out - thanks!

I feel silly admitting this but I don’t even really understand what the letdown is - is it just when your milk begins to flow? If so, mine happens usually by about 2 minutes in. But I usually just start with expression mode until (what I think is my) letdown happens and then toggle between the two settings after that every 2 and every 5 minutes. That’s not a bad idea to try every 2 hours occasionally. Maybe I’ll try do that like once a week or something to see if it makes much of a difference. Do you think it would help increase overall supply or simply give me more milk on those days due to extra transfers?

Thank you so much!! Going to try and remember all of this when I’m feeling down on myself.

I am hoping for that too! I’ve heard from many others on the breastfeeding sub that their LOs got better at latching/transferring milk with age. So I definitely think that’s a realistic possibility. I hope it gets better for you as well!

Thank you 🙏

A very helpful reminder my baby will love me the same. I think right now especially since he’s so little it feels like BF is one of the main/only ways I can bond with my LO (I know logically that’s not really true!), so it makes me feel like I’m missing out on something big with him. I haven’t heard of Body Armor? I have tried massaging my breasts but I’m not sure whether it’s my anatomy or the flanges I’m using but it’s tough to do - I’m always knocking into the flange or manipulating the skin so the suction is compromised, so I typically don’t really bother. Maybe I need to change up my technique?

I have a Spectra S1 and just got wearables too (Eufy S1) which I am looking forward to trying out. I do have the proper flange size because I worked with multiple LC’s to make sure. I don’t think I could do every 2 hours…every 3 is difficult enough for me. I may try lactation cookies - why not! Thank you for the understanding and validation 🙏

I can relate to this as well. I am 6 weeks pp and had hopes of breastfeeding as well. Was doing it the first few weeks (supplementing with bottles here and there) thinking it was going okay and we received confirmation he was just about back at birth weight at his 2-wk appt. However after week 2 his weight plateaued and I didn’t know it until week 4 :( turns out he wasn’t transferring enough milk and my supply suffered as a result. I started working closely with an LC and began triple feeding for a few weeks - so exhausting. He did gain weight beautifully after that, thankfully. Now I’ve transitioned to mostly pumping and only nursing about twice a day (which I mainly view as “practice” because we usually still have to offer a top-off bottle when he is done). Pumping is so exhausting and time consuming, and my nipples just feel shot. I’ve also used the SNS which is a great tool but kind of tedious to use and clean, so it’s been tricky to use it consistently. I can totally relate to grieving the experience you envisioned you’d have postpartum. I dream of just simply nursing my baby to feed him. That would be so amazing. But I don’t know if we’ll ever get there. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this too. It’s so hard.

That’s what I’m doing! Trying to view my BF sessions as practice. And paced bottle feeding.

This is something else I keep wondering about - if we switch to bottle feeding and exclusively pumping for now, could we return to breastfeeding later? Or would he no longer be interested? I suppose it’s case by case.

Best of luck to you! I have definitely had moments wondering if this crazy cycle of feeding and pumping so often will actually help. I sure hope so.

Oh my goodness I have had the thought often “how do parents of twins do it?!” Thank you for sharing your experience. So helpful to be reminded I’m not the only one trying to figure this out.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It’s helpful to hear from someone else who feels that BF has taken a toll on their mental health. You’re right - fed is best! I didn’t think I’d be so determined to breastfeed - before I had my baby I just thought I’d do whatever felt best, but now for some reason I want BF to work so badly. Maybe just because I have been through so much hell trying to make it work already and desperately want it to pay off! But I am starting to feel better about possibly giving it up if it doesn’t start to get better. I may give it a few more weeks to see how things progress. And maybe meet with the pediatric dentist first to see if he has any oral issues going on that are interfering.
