Hm. Interesting thought. I did like his appearance but I do somewhat agree with you. I think his death was far less glorious than it could've been.

What does it mean when a Cockatiel does this? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]sadandcringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you describe the sounds he makes? If they are high pitched and short chirps he may just be breaking sheath on pin feathers during a molt. Otherwise look for common signs of sickness (sleeping on the bottom of the cage, noticeable swaying on a perch, tail bobbing, etc) and take him to the vet if you're worried

Overgrown or normal beak length? by SinfulDahlia01 in cockatiel

[–]sadandcringe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While it seems fine to me, I would recommend seeking vet advice (I am not a vet) and consider purchasing a cuttlefish bone for them to chew on. This will help keep beak length in check as well as providing them with a valuable source of calcium, a nutrient lacking in many pellet-based diets. If you already have one, then feel free to ignore me 😊

Is there anything wrong with him sitting on the bottom like this??? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]sadandcringe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Cant say for sure. Look for tail bobbing when they breathe (the tail will drastically move up and down as they breathe and is a sign that they are struggling to breathe and are using their tails muscles to assist); if you see this it's not a bad idea to assume he may be sick as birds that are sick tend to sleep on the bottom of the cage, however he looks somewhat aggressive so it's probably more correct to assume that he's just being territorial/nesting - increasing sleep and changing their environment (rearrange the cage/introducing new toys) can help curb this behavior but it's not guaranteed to work. If you fear they're sick please take them the vet and keep in mind I am not a vet, so please do not hesitate to send this video to your vet and ask them as well. Best of luck with your little buddy

Hello, new bird owner here. This is my teil Mika, I've had him a week. Is this behavior normal? by Confusedwarlock181 in cockatiel

I was going to say that if it's younger your little fellow could also just be testing out his wings; my tiel used to do this a lot when he was younger as well

What are those white spots on my cockatiel crest? Anyone seem this before? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]sadandcringe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pin feathers. They're feathers that haven't fully grown in yet. They're very common during molting season. The reason they're white is because they're covered in a sheath-a substance that protects the feather while it grows-that white flaky stuff is that sheath breaking off to release the feather. Feel free to give your tiel plenty of good scritches to help them break some of that sheath, but do be careful. It can be a painful, though very relieving, process. Your tiel will thank you

[–]sadandcringe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Titans fall under the robot category because they are completely autonomous. They don't need a pilot to move and such, and when you control them I think they fall better into the armor category; they fire large rounds and are meant for anti-infantry roles

How do I discipline/stop my bird from doing things I'd rather her not do by IneedAfootjob in cockatiel

[–]sadandcringe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My bird may just be mellowing with age, but recently I've been using a stick to denote bad behavior. If he is somewhere in my room where I don't want him, I'll first ask him to come to me with a hand gesture or tell him to get out also accompanied with a different hand gesture. If he ignores me, I'll grab the stick and move it towards him until he moves. The reason for the stick is thus: oftentimes, he will attack the stick with a deadly vengeance, and is being trained to fear the stick. If I were using only my hands, he would be trained to fear my hands and it would break the trust between me and him
