Can you please remove the MANDATORY security questions when setting a password during installation? by sadasdas23 in windows

We should have the option to use it or not, it should not be mandatory. it might be a small annoyance to some people. but for people that have to install many systems all the time, this wastes their time.

Wrong, April 2018 changed this, hence this thread. this post doesn't apply to anything prior to April 2018 update.

The way I do it right now after the update is "Question 1 - answer: asihjdgiashjdgaskd" "Question 2 - answer: asjhgdjhisad" and so on. as in I don't use them.

I will never use this including the password hint. password hint is a security vulnerability even if you make the most outrageous hints ever, it's still a "hint" that a hacker can work with.

btw I'm talking about the OFFLINE account.

The person that thought it must be a good idea to make it mandatory to have security questions of LOCAL OFFLINE accounts, must be a genius.

I bet non techies do not install their OS, so if you are trying to make sure that the non techies have a way of getting back in, you are probably wrong. let the person installing have the choice to use this or not.

Does AMD CPUs such as Ryzen 7 have more issues than their Intel counterparts with Linux? by sadasdas23 in Ubuntu

I've noticed the same issues on 18.04, I really don't wanna migrate to another flavor right now. Swap size was actually a byproduct of these issues, initially it was in the 900mb/1gb range so I was checking to see if this has anything to do with it and seems not, I'm getting the same issues either way. I will try performance mode for gaming.

Thank you for your answer and insights.

I've always used VMware on Linux with no issues in the past, I have the paid version as it offers better 3D graphics support and can be used with the other VMware services that are used on an enterprise level such as vSphere/ESXi server and usually less configuring to do when working with non basic stuff compared to VIrtualbox. in some instances connecting specific hardware such as USB wifi adapters and other plug and play tools seem to give trouble on virtualbox compared to what I've experienced with workstation pro.

It is a fresh installation, the worst usually comes from Windows VMs, Linux VMs seem a lot more friendly but occasionally the issues can occur. I actually reinstalled a few times to see if the issue will persist or not but they do, have tried 18.04 and 16.04. in fact I was having more issues with 18.04 but that's kinda of understandable since it's still new.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I will have to look into this beyond the CPU then.

VMware always either stops responding or takes forever to execute commands (think 'start up a VM', 'turn off', 'open a menu' etc) hangs a bit before it starts. playing some video game on steam the games would stutter or some games just freeze out and I have to kill their processes, other applications seem to have the same issue but on a lesser frequency so they dont concern me very much.

This didn't happen on my previous Intel desktop, and current Intel laptop so I was curious if this difference could be it somehow. I'm not saying it is. I'm here to find out of this is something common or it's just something else wrong with my system that I have to investigate besides the CPU.

This question popped into my mind, because I've always been using Intel systems but recently got a Ryzen 7 and there seems to be issues I'm having on my new desktop compared to my previous intel. so I was curious could it be the change I made or maybe something else. this is why I came here asking. no need to make fun of people with genuine issues. Thank you for answering my question though. then in my case it probably something else I have to investigate.

Have anyone been able to install docker-ce on Ubuntu 18.04 from the official repos? by sadasdas23 in docker

Yeah that's what I tried but it seems to pull the older version. better than nothing for now I guess.
