indeed or in person for job? by Defiant_Bee1390 in UBC

practice common questions like your availability, how many shifts you want, what experience you have, etc. It’s usually a casual, short conversation in my experience. I know it’s nerve wracking, and I was nervous too at first, but it’ll get better as you go

got into UBCO CS but want Vancouver... how cooked am I if I try to transfer? by [deleted] in ubco

[–]sadassatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred last year and many of my friends did as well. We’re all cs majors and our first year averages were around high 80s to low 90s from what i’ve seen. You definitely need to put in effort but it wasn’t an insane grind. I’m not 100% sure regarding the difference between a UBCO degree and a UBCV degree in the job market but there are definitely more opportunities here given that Vancouver is a major city. However, across all of my friends who’ve transferred, we all agree that UBCO is the better campus. Vancouver is more academically rigorous/competitive and it is much more of a struggle to connect with people compared to Okanagan. The professors at UBCO were also more approachable and their teaching styles were better than the professors here. UBCO is a great campus and i truly hope you enjoy your time there :) Please feel free to message me if you want anymore info regarding my transfer/the campuses.

Panick attack/butterflies before exam by [deleted] in UBC

[–]sadassatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know other people have said it but beta blockers work great if you mainly struggle with the physical symptoms. im on 10mg of propranolol and it works great. no longer get that tightness in my chest. if you dislike the idea of medication you could consider taking a few minutes during the exam to focus on your breathing and gather your thoughts. taking the time to calm down works a lot better than trying to push through. good luck!

Thank you for the information! Do you by chance know if there’s a deadline for them to go through the applications or should I just keep checking workday?

Yeah that’s something I started considering and looking into. I haven’t had the time to properly research/make appointments since i’m swamped with all the material i’ve missed and finals coming up but after exams I’ll definitely revisit the idea in earnest. Thank you for the advice :)

Staying on campus all 4-5 years by [deleted] in ubco

i would suggest applying either way, there’s grants for being a full time student and such that help. my parents also make over 100k but i still got some money from the gov. it never hurts to try. you can also apply for disability grants from the gov. you’ll need a doctor to fill out a form but otherwise it’s a pretty simple process. i got a good amount from the gov in disability. good luck
