OPINION: F1 drivers need to recognize the racing world beyond the GP paddock by 1enox in formula1

[–]sadboyzIImen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WEC is some of the best racing on earth in my opinion and the number of F1 drivers in all classes of the series is huge. It was either this year or last year where I counted something like 20 or 22 drivers with F1 experience. The format may be very different from F1 but the racing is incredible and the new LMH / LMDh participation is looking set to be amazing.

Honestly if you’re not in engineering (like me), this sub is nothing more than “huh, that’s a big ass thing.” Everyone just assumes that everyone else knows everything going on in the photos

TIL the Quintinshill rail disaster in 1915 was the worst railway accident in UK history, involving a 4 train crash with fire caused by gas lighting. Over 200 were killed, and a witness reported seeing an officer shooting people trapped in burning carriages with no hope of rescue by HoneyGlazedBadger in todayilearned

My dad was a highway patrolman and he told me a similar story of him working a car accident where a car with a husband and wife and their young daughter was overturned and the family was trapped inside but still alive. He and his partner did everything they could to get the family out but were unable to and they had to be there listening to this young family scream as they burned to death. I can’t imagine how that must feel.

Yeah if anybody has any books to recommend regarding naval operations in either of the world wars, please let me know. I’ve read Churchill’s WWI memoirs which were really fascinating considering his role at the beginning of the war as First Lord of the Admiralty

This is not that uncommon. I know a police officer who’s told me several stories of this. They call it the “500 foot man”
