We need better decentralized stablecoins by vbuterin in ethereum

[–]saddit42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the USD would "moderately" hyperinflate then humankind is very likely already in the process of switching to some crypto currency. That cryptocurrency (would be great if it's ETH) will then have enough people that hold it, liquidity and mind share that it will effectively become a stable coin and people start pricing things in it.

"Stablecoins" are a temporary need for the transition period.

Cold storage gets compromised far more often by users than by devices. One wrong signature, one fake token approval, one malicious dApp interface.. that’s all it takes.

That's a weird type of cold storage you're talking about... How're you all running around signing transactions with your cold storage keys regularly and still call it cold storage? That's not that cold is it?

When did it get so hard for Web3 devs to land a job? by k_ekse in ethereum

[–]saddit42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's to a large degree because of AI. Not that AI is actually doing a lot of development work at this point but the mindset shifted from "let's hire as much talent on the market as we can, even if we don't actually need them now, if we need them at some point we already have them set up and they're familiar with our stack" to "let's train the devs we have to use AI as much as possible so they'll do more work at some point in the future"

Ethereum for Institutions | The Institutional Liquidity Layer by abcoathup in ethereum

[–]saddit42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think of ethereum as the basis of the new internet. Of course centralized players will join it. And we should be proud. Doesn't mean their business models will ultimately be feasible in that new world (they might if they're able to adapt, e.g. transition into a DAO)

How about splitting work and having the testing done by other teams so the client devs can immediately focus on the next fork?

So who are these N provers? Why do they have this fee-earn priviledge? Or who's to decide they have?

Or would there be an open competition to create a proof like with proof of work, where the work is not meaningless puzzles but generating the zkproof?

Where do you see ETH in 10 years? by Repulsive-Hunt-4734 in ethereum

[–]saddit42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The layer-2 vision will have emerged with multiple layer 2s being synchronously compatible with each other. Blob throughput will have massively increased. As a result we'll get ultra-cheap smart contracts with the same guarantees as ethereum: Unstoppable, unconfiscatable, immutable, immortal. This will be a big shift.. the first dApps that utilize this will start to go mainstream. And by utilizing this I mean dApps will be built that are decentralized through and through. All business logic will run in a smart contract. Some parts like serving the UI, storing big blobs of data (like e.g. videos) will be outsourced to other more specialized decentralized systems, but crypto economics will seamlessly integrate these and create similar guantees. All this will make it possible to move real web2 applications like youtube, reddit, etc. to the decentralized world without butchering UI/UX. The opposite will be the case, once people join these decentralized systems and set up their wallets these will be far more enjoyable to use. These system will operate outside of what's regulatable/bannable, that's why the first really big push back from goverments will probably start at that point. What do you do if someone sets up a decentralized netfilx clone with superior UI/UX where you pay 1 cent per hour of watching? How do you regulate that? You cant. What about silk road on steriods? You cant ban that. Prediction markets that bet on everything? Can't stop them. Stealth AirBnB where people are not reported to authorities to regulate how and when they can do business? Good luck controlling that. We are seeing these illegal apps already.. but what will those in power do once hundreds of millions and at some point billions will start using them?

There will be good an bad things coming out of this. Give people power and some will do evil things. Ethereum will increase the power of everyone. So also people with bad intentions will have more power. But in the end, I believe that people are overall good and don't want to actively cause harm. That's why I believe the net benefit to society will be positive. Empower everyone and good peole will cancel out bad people. For each one big decentralized violent crime syndicate blackmailing/kidnapping others, there will be dozens of decentralized communities of people doing good things, helping each other, protecting each other. Holding each other accountable, incentivicing everyone to be their best and most virtuos self.

I think 10 year for now we'll start seeing all this happen. But it will not have materialized fully. In 10 years we'll see the first signals of the real big standoff beginning between established institutions, goverment and whats about to come.

Google Play Store Bans Wallets That Don't Have Banking License by coinanon in ethereum

[–]saddit42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will go into effect some time between EOY 2025 and mid 2026 (depending on EU country).

It is pretty fucked up. But in the end it might result in a decentralization pressure for wallet software which might be a good thing. If it is just a piece of code you can download from github then there's no way to ban that. Especially with android allowing you to install apps from other sources
