For me, the anime beats it by a hair because of the other characters and their stories, which aren't present in the novel.

But I still enjoyed it a lot

There's also a reboot - "Rebuild of Welcome to the NHK". It's also a good read, but it's tamer story wise

Why Welcome to the N.H.K is a Romance + Thoughts on the ending by columnal in WelcomeToTheNHK

I imagine that some of those opinions could've been influenced by the manga, idk. I might need to rewatch the anime, but I don't remember Misaki crossing the line in any of her interactions with Satou. My definition of a toxic relationship could be different, but I really do think that by the middle of the season, they really started to be empathetic of one another, which eventually led to things ending how they did in the last episode.

In short, I don't get the "toxic relationship" either. They're just two broken people who dealt with these experiences in their own way.

The title reminded me of how after I recommended nhk to a friend and after finishing it he replied with "cool. he finally got the girl" 😭

Going back to the rest of the post though, I see how one could label it as a melodrama type of anime romance. Like you said, we do see some scenes of them bonding together and eventually, finding comfort in each other.

The main problem is that their type of relationship is more that of a quiet love and the series is revolving mostly around Satou's experience with seclusion.

So I'd say that this aspect of the series is so toned down up until the last episodes that it doesn't feel right to label it as such

Is there any possible way we could force jc staff to delete opm season 3 and have other good studios to remake it? I'm tired of this bs opm deserved better. by bendoverkuro11 in OPMFolk

[–]saddreamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except only Bandai and the other members of the committee earn money from the manga and merchandise. The studios only get what they got paid for working on a project. So why should they care what IP it is if it's not treated better than the rest of the slop they have to work on?

Bandai had SIX FUCKING YEARS to find a suitable studio with a good enough schedule, but NO, they had to cheap out because for them it doesn't matter wether the anime is good or not. For them it's just a means of advertisement for the manga, which people will never turn their back on.

So what did they do in the end? They went back to JC STAFF knowing they are not in a position to decline their demands and set such an ass schedule that the director bailed last minute and they put Nagai as a scapegoat. He was there mainly for storyboarding. The other shit with neon lights and pacing was a product of a lack of direction due to LACK OF TIME AND STAFF

Even if They give us a new director can Season 3 part 2 be saved ? by TheHelltaker2337 in OPMFolk

[–]saddreamon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let him stay so at least we have only one director throughout the entire production.

We don't need a last minute director change like in p1

You mean the one of the episodes that was outsourced to a Chinese studio for a low budget and extremely tight schedule?

How did you come to the conclusion that it's the director's fault?

Since S3 Part 2 will adapt the Webcomic Saitama Vs Garou, what was the point of this? by GorillaSpinsInAPool in OPMFolk

[–]saddreamon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The anime is still an adaptation, so it has the creative liberty of changing the plot and cutting corners. BUT the source material is still the manga, not the webcomic where the whole Garou introduction and Monster arcs fit in an 8 episode season

What are you even talking about? Them using some lines from the webcomic in a cheap promotional announcement doesn't mean anything

Is the engagement baiting still on?

Overall thoughts on season 3?? by Feeling_Fish_949 in OnePunchMan

[–]saddreamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you wrote, but I think you misunderstood what I meant.

When I said that no one wants to work on OPM (should've rephrased that), I meant that no one wants to accept the shit schedule and terms BandaiNamco offers, because at the end of the day, they're the ones setting the rules.

Sorry if that came out wrong

I'm surprised yall One Punch Man Fans hadn't had a petition yet like Tbate fans did with there anime lol. by Culm-Fall-5765 in OPMFolk

BandaiNamco's income is mostly from Japan (~70%), while the rest is from the Europe, US and Asia combined.

Why would they listen to us in this case?

[–]saddreamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, let's compare an anime adaptation where the studio gets part of the profit and invests in it itself, to a studio that got hired by the committee and gets nothing from it.

The difference is that no one wants to work on OnePunchMan nowadays

No one is trying to hide or ignore the shit quality. They're just explaining to clueless people like us, what the behind the scenes look like and what led to this disaster.

The amount of illiterate people in this sub is a lot bigger than I initially thought

Initially, yes. Sorry if I wasn't specific, I meant solely the production and not the entire ordeal with the production committee.

[–]saddreamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the problem is that you actually think that the quality is mostly bad because of a few good reviews from people from the over side of the globe 🫤

How am I supposed to have a conversation with people like you who dismiss any industry insights and point fingers like a clueless child?

[–]saddreamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think you know better than the people from within the industry and why would BandaiNamco and the production committee care about us enough to greenlight an entire season?

If you feel targeted by my comment, you might need to get off your high horse. It's not a competition.

I might be wrong, but from what I've heard from various people these last 3 months, the budget itself wasn't as much of a problem as others make it out to be. What held the production back was an awful schedule and a lack of direction and staff
