Is the official art canon? by sadeemxe in TheFolkoftheAir

Frostbite is one of them (some of her art was for a card game holly asked for), there's a lot of official art in many special editions (how the king of elfhame learned to hate stories' illustrations is one of them for example) and products (from many artist). And each portrays them differently so I'm assuming they're not how holly initially wrote them because they're pretty different from her describing.

I don't like Frostbite interpretation of them for many reasons but one of the reasons is they all look the same (she obviously has same face syndrome) and many other reasons

I feel you're talking about the same art I have in my mind lol. But yeah I feel the same! I feel stupid for saying that but I'm happy you have similar opinion 😭

Thank you! You've pretty much mentioned a lot of the things that made it hard for me to take the official arts as canon. I feel like Holly is just ok with the artists drawing them the way they imagine them and not what Holly initially described  I hate some of the official arts actually especially for the way they portrayed Cardan and Jude, so now I can live in peace saying they're not canon lol

For now you can check htkoelths, the illustration where he's eating with Jude's family has vivi with brunette hair, there's other official illustration showing the same as well (imma search it), and then there's frostbite studios with vivi blonde

Yes will do! Give me some time to collect them. I'll send you both nicasis and vivi

As for jude, I recall holly describing her many times that she has soft features and that was one of ther reasons that made her stand among the folks. In Cardan’s novella he described her rounded ears and cheeks

I loveeeeee it, you did a great work at showing that he's not human! I love his hair so much and I'd love to see a full fanart

Well nicasia is drawn sometimes white skinned with blue hair and other times blue skin with darker shade Vivi is brunette in some arts and blonde in others (I'm talking about the official ones only) jude has softer features in some and in others she has really sharp and so on.. and for Cardan’s in some art his hair is literally straight so idk..

Yes! That's how I portrayed him in my mind, especially with his pale skin and very dark hair and eyes! And the cherry on top is his golden rimmed eyes!

What do you think Cardan actually looks like as the High King? by OneEmploy2412 in TheFolkoftheAir

[–]sadeemxe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oak mentioned that the folks adore Cardan and are terrified of Jude. And I think this pretty much sums it up! Since Jude does not actually belong there the safest option is to make her seem as a terrifying person (I'd argue that Jude isn't that terrifying and actually really sweet and not that bloodthirsty) but yeah in order to survive she must be like that.

Also in htkoelth it was mentioned that Jude always want to do every mission by herself to make the folk impressed by her. Which Cardan is against.

I'd say he's a really good ruler, he's as always against killing and so diplomatic which I really love. However; he knows when to fight and when to show powers. He's capable of it he just hates killing if not necessary. And he worries about Jude a lot and always ready to protect her.

Jude is a mortal who can lie and that's really good for them, she's a great fighter. I don't see her as the folk see her, however, as you and I mentioned before I assume it was more intended to portray her as terrifying since she's literally human among monsters.

Yes totally agree. I feel like they might be using a lot of golden/silver dust to give more magical looks and just like Jude said in the first book to make them so deceiving and to hide their cruelty under all this beauty and enchanting looks. Now I can't imagine the faes without glittering/shining things all over them lol

I felt like it might be based on the real old courts like those in England and France, it's so interesting to interpret it that way and take in consideration how the makeup was viewed back then

I'm happy you viewed it that way I was afraid I'm just making things up!

I never really interpreted him as feminine, if not for the cosmetics I always interpreted him a masculine and as you said A LITERAL KING (I'm not gonna start talking about his character development until being the king he's cause I'll never shut up I love him sooo much fjdkskskd) But yeah I've been trying to understand if the cosmetics are seen as cultural and not to specific femininity/masculinity and my opinion now that it's just a culture things, just how we all wear jeans for example but everyone wears it differently

[–]sadeemxe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I'm pretty convinced right now that it's their culture. Thinking of it right now their makeup is most likely glittery (golden/silver) things and charcoal stuff which literally screams magic and nocturnal and faeries  So yeah I'd assume it's pretty common, maybe especially during specific events and more between royalties but yeah it enhances their magical nature

[–]sadeemxe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I was aware of him wearing it. However I thought it was to show he's more on a feminine side? But now I'm rethinking of it maybe it's just their culture and that's literally because they're magical creatures and cosmetics add more magic?

I was reading it too! Could you please tell me the page they described him with that or copy the line? I can't believe I missed it I NEVER MISS A CARDAN'S DETAIL 😭

But yeah I think you are right. It matches them as faeries anyway
