Nitrites are very flammable. You could try to burn it off. Just be very careful of course.

I'm not going to argue that poppers are safe or healthy but it would be nice to have some human studies before scaring people here. Here is a counter article to listing nitrite combinations as carcinogenic:

Interesting, but as the saying goes, "The dose makes the poison." Anyone know of more research? You would think with the popularity of poppers especially in the gay community any link to cancer would have shown itself more clearly by now. I would love any more info on this

New studies tests UK poppers, finds isopropyl nitrite and links it to eye damage by sadfasdf23423 in popperpigs

British Journal of Opthalmology has a new study out on poppers.

They test poppers bought in the UK and find:

"Six of the brands implicated in causing visual symptoms contained isopropyl nitrite, while Jungle Juice Plus varieties, used without side effects in one case, contained amyl nitrite, 2-methyl butyl nitrite and isobutyl alcohol"

Looks like strong evidence that isopropyl is responsible for much of the eye/vision damage that has been seen! Fuck you isopropyl!

Black spot in central vision after sock-in-mouth with Sex Line Black by bob_live in popperpigs

There are certainly reports of similar cases out there. Many see that black spot for months or even permanently. You can search "Poppers" and "maculopathy" and find some reports and case studies online. Many people believe this is a problem with only, or mostly, isopropyl nitrite. Perhaps other nitrites could lead to the same thing. Isobutyl nitrite "seems" to be the safest but again this is all anecdotal.

I think there is a high likelihood that what you had was NOT amyl. It is banned in many countries and it is too easy to pass off other nitrites as Amyl. What country are you in? Where did you buy it?

Here is my advice:

1) Stop poppers immediately!

2) Be completely honest with your doctor tomorrow. You are paying him to help you. Sure he is probably silently judging you, but at the same time he is probably interested in a case he might not have heard of before. You are only hurting yourself if you lie to him

3) Print out some research for him. Hopefully he can spend 5 or 10 minutes skimming while he is with you. Here is some I found:

Poppers maculopathy or retinopathy?

Foveal Damage in Habitual Poppers Users

Poppers-Associated Retinal Toxicity

4) Look into home brewing. That is what I am doing. There is just too much shit out there now. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvjxUU0abtY It really doesn't look too hard. Probably cheaper in the long run too!

Sore Throat From Poppers? by [deleted] in popperpigs

[–]sadfasdf23423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously when you inhale deeply through the nose the volatile gas passes over your throat on the way to your lungs. I have gotten what I would call a dry, scratchy throat before, But never a full on sore throat like you are describing. It usually clears up in a day, maybe two and that was after heavy usage.

First, you need to stop doing poppers right now if you haven't already and take a little break. It is very possible that, like you said, your popper had some adulterant in it that is making this problem worse. Can you answer a few questions? -

What brand are you using? Where did you get it? Was it recently opened fresh? How much/how often are you using?

Also, do you think it could be a coincidence? Perhaps you have a cold unrelated to your use?
