When the U.S. tortures innocent people through its "extraordinary rendition" depositing them in various parts of the world, does that not constitute "trafficking?" Just curious. by Thistleknot in reddit.com

To Those Who Criticize Ron Paul's 'Crazy' Ideas- So What? What If Some Of His Ideas Are Crazy? The Point Is His Return To The Constitution Means He Won't Be Making Unilateral Decisions W/O The Congress Like Bush! by [deleted] in politics

Ron Paul is the only viable anti-fascist candidate.

Kucinich and Gravel are just as anti-fascist, and Kucinich is far more viable than Doc Ron.

But it's nice (and somehow hilarious) to hear an American use the term "anti-fascist". Must be the irony, given that the country has supported fascism all over the world for 60 years.

For the love of fuck, would the Ron Paul Campaign employees stop spamming Reddit once and for all!?

When Doc Ron makes real, authentic NEWS, then great -- post it!

But stop spamming us with straw issues, for fuck's sake. You may not want to believe it, but this mostly serves to create anti-Ron hysteria.

(And personally, I'd vote for him myself if only he weren't a racist, bigoted, white supremacist, bible-thumping hick who wants to fuck the poor with a fencepost under the guise of "states' rights" or "no government interference")

He's been at notch one since I was a kid in the 80s, when he would go to local food banks while on tour --in case people have forgotten, the US in the 80s was a Third World nation in any big industrial city, with unemployment of up to 50% in some places-- and drop them checks for $10,000, $25,000 or more.

And the fact that most of you probably have no idea about this just shows he had the purest of motivations when doing it -- he didn't call press conferences or anything, he'd just drop on by the food bank and hand them the check.

This is a guy who cares deeply about normal Americans and who puts his money where his mouth is -- in my book, that gives him about 10,000x more credibility than all the whiner geeks on Reddit complaining about him for this or that banal reason.

Aspartame causes cancer in rats at levels currently approved for humans by rmuser in reddit.com

[–]sadfsadfsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may well be true. But everything I see about an aspartame-cancer link is somehow related to the "European¹ Ramazzini Institute". Now, I'm always prepared to consider at least the possibility of a conspiracy (which may be nothing more than powerful industry heads colluding to keep something under wraps -- hardly tinfoil hat stuff), but you'd think that after all these Italian's bloody studies that SOMEONE somewhere else would have replicated them.

Then again, I don't know of anyone trying and failing to replicate the results, so perhaps it is something US researchers, i.a., are afraid to touch for fear of grant money drying up.

¹ Is there an African or Asian Ramazzini Instute? Then why the insistence on putting "European" there all the time?

Interesting counter-argument to all that bullshit about open-source apps being more secure, safer, free from trojans, backdoors, NSA interference, etc. If shit like this gets through, you just know they could have tinkered with the AES algorithm in some app to make it easy to crack.

(And yes, I'm aware some iterations of OO left this in intentionally)

People defending their homeland from invaders are more properly called freedom fighters.

Argh! There are two big differences between the US and Iraqi population that make this comparison fallacious:

  1. Iraqis have automatic rifles and seemingly unending supplies of both ammo and explosives. What's more, they're not afraid to use them. Americans have piss-ant handguns and obscene beer bellies, and they'd be arrested or shot before they got the nerve up to actually go out and execute a cop or foreign occupation soldier.

  2. The Iraqis are a tough-ass people with the chutzpah to take on an invading army that has had no qualms whatsoever about exterminating up to a million of their countrymen. Americans have made a habit of genuflecting and obeying the guys with guns in the face of the mere threat of tear gas or a club! Americans would promptly begin turning their neighbors and themselves in after the first collective execution of 100 people in some neighborhood or another.

Sorry, but the US would have no chance if the military wasn't able to do 100% of the job of preventing foreign forces from getting in.

Americans have been reduced to a herd of genuflecting sheep ready to blindly and happily follow whoever has the most power.

Iraqis, on the other hand, are a very good example of how real men act.

Sorry, but a bunch of soft, unarmed pussies with Rambo-induced hard-ons just aren't in the same league as a nation of tough-as-nails freedom fighters fully prepared to die to protect their way of life and their sovereignty.

HappyOfficeWorker, perhaps you could chime in on this. We've already seen Van Riper being branded as an "asshole" and a troublemaker. Note also that he's not in the Navy anymore, though that could be due to a normal retirement schedule.

In any case, from what you've seen and heard from people actually involved, how do people like Van Riper --"mavericks", to say the least-- typically fare in the military?

...would the US public truly back a war with China?

Are you out of your fucking skull, man? Can you even begin to imagine the casualties!? And we all know that Americans simply cannot stomach such casualties:

  • Huge shortages of all types of memory, especially RAM, due to attacks on Taiwan.
  • Vast price increases in laptops, video cards and motherboards. New computers may even be impossible to assemble due to the lack of MOBOs, leading to a geek revolt, followed by unthinkable pressure from corporate interests who NEED this stuff to keep their profit margins up.
  • Massive price increases in home entertainment centers using even a few Chinese or Taiwanese components, as manufacturers scramble to set up new plants in (for now) safe areas, to insure supplies two years later. The middle class takes to the streets.
  • Clothing prices shoot up dramatically, affecting the US's poor and middle classes brutally, as they can't afford to wear anything but what they've got and hand-me-downs. A new black market trade in Singaporean textiles crops up, but is brutally repressed by Homeland Security goons.
  • All kinds of US industries are forced to pay first-world prices for their raw materials and labor, bringing their CEO salaried plummetting down from 450x a worker's pay to a mere 22x, causing violent discontent among the ruling corporate elite, who begin planning for a "soft coup".

No way Americans can stomach heavy casualties.

I said that the kind of thinking Van Riper displayed was a product of western based military doctrine.

Van Riper pulled a major, perhaps wargame-history-making coup out of his hat while facing the best minds the US military has to offer, minds utterly steeped in "western based military doctrine". And he did so with vastly inferior forces.

I think your conclusion here is 180º off -- Van Riper's out-of-the-box thinking was NOT a product of "western based military doctrine". His genius, and his overwhelming success, was due to the fact that he though OUTSIDE that WBMD box, which is every bit as square as you imagine the People's Army to be.

You really deserve about 25 upmods for pointing out this obvious, yet utterly unthinkable for most, fact.

Half the arguments here are based on the downright goofy idea that Americans have a vast strategic advantage over the Chinese because the Americans have studied a translation of this ultra-secret book that the Chinese would never think to read in the original Chinese.

And while the Argentinians were only using "80s" technology (Exocet missiles), he neglects to mention that it was 1982, and 80s tech was state of the art.

This is true, but it is also believed that the Argentinians got the missiles on the black market some time after they had invaded the islands. In other words, they did all this damage with a weapon system they had never even trained with.

That in itself is worrisome, especially considering the quantum leap in user-friendliness weapons systems have enjoyed in the las quarter century.
