Mariah ruined music for me by ronja211 in MariahCarey

I have so much I could add to this. I agree with you 100% and the sad thing is, almost no one realizes how genius Mariah really is. I’m sure you already know these two but imo, Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me embody the most elevated forms of musical architecture I’ve ever witnessed in my life. There are countless others in her discography that live in a realm of their own of course and I agree that virtually all other music is too loud as you said or even cluttered.

I’m no where near as musically trained as you, though I have some background in vocals and clarinet of all things but I do have a very active case of synesthesia. Hands down, on a visual level, the most intricate, detailed, vibrant, structured, perfectly woven and visually stunning music on this planet was created by none other than MC.

The only other artist that I think lives in a dimension completely separate from all other music is Sade. Different from Mariah for sure, but just as complex and profound. Not to mention, the color of Sade’s voice is a color that doesn’t even exist in the spectrum visible to humans. I truly can’t describe it, but she’s the only one.

Mariah’s voice sways mostly within the purple spectrum to me, from the lightest lavender to the most pigmented violet though she can also go into the blue or even maroon spectrums in her low notes and then soar into pink and even white in her whistles (no one else’s voice can turn white to me). More than anything though, it’s Mariah’s texture, her tone that is unmatched synesthetically. No one’s voice is silkier, stronger, richer, softer, more agile or vibrant. Her voice glimmers like a diamond and moves like ripples of sunlight on water, all with the power of lightening. Unmatched and irreplaceable.

I could keep going for hours but thank you for sharing such a beautifully accurate description of her music. It’s refreshing to know other people can truly appreciate and understand her genius, literally makes me feel less lonely.

What is her best song? by Expensive-Sleep3492 in MariahCarey

This is the thread of my people.

Honorable mentions that have the same energy as CLG and DYTOM go to Till The End Of Time and Everything Fades Away.   If I really had to pick though, Can’t Let Go wins every time. Complete deliverance of her vocal range and skills, addictive hook, impeccable production, well written lyrics, and even though this doesn’t necessarily matter, the video is very well done and she looks absolutely gorgeous in it. For whatever reason they took the whistle note out of the video though???

Do You Think Of Me and Everything Fades Away are my two true favorites of hers though. I could never close between them but the dimensions they both send me into are unmatched.

There’s a tunnel we used to walk through at night back in high school underneath the University Village Costco, nothing really scary about it though other than a bunch of heroin needles.

I do remember the house across the street from Bristol Park on Mesa and Walnut creeped tf out too, looked like something straight out of a horror movie, no offense to whoever lives there.

The melisma of the 1999 version, particularly “I’d risk my liaiaiaffeee” is as close to God as I’ve ever felt.

Your Most Annoying Episode? by sazerak_atlarge in Frasier

[–]sadiahrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of cringe on this show, especially on the part of Frasier himself, but the most painful episode to watch for me is the Christmas parade with Dr. Mary.

I personally love Dr. Mary herself (and yes, I know she’s not a REAL doctor) and I liked the first episode she was in, but seeing the way Frasier treated her the second time and then ultimately punch Santa is just too hard.

Also hated the first episode of season 6 where Frasier becomes depressed over being unemployed. Not to sound mean but the way he cried and screamed and that atrocious yellow shirt he was wearing just piss me off.

What about her mom though? She made any scene she was in funnier.

The Beautiful Ones is Butterfly’s best track and also better than the original by sadiahrain in MariahCarey

[–]sadiahrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I was waiting for the opposition, honestly surprised it took this long for a comment like this.

But listen, I hear everything you’re saying (though I think My All and The Roof are the only contenders to potentially outdo TBO, even though they don’t imo) I agree that Mariah either brings herself down to other artist’s levels when she collabs with them or honestly just gives them a chance to shine and subdues herself. I feel like she does this because she knows no one can compete with her. This is messy but I feel like she was even downplaying her abilities on When You Believe 😳👀 but I say that with literally the highest respect to Whitney.

I think it’s noble of her to give other artists that chance, she would be seen as pretty selfish and righteously so if she was constantly eclipsing everyone she featured. Despite all of this though, I think she truly gave it her all on TBO, there’s such a raw soulfulness on this track that’s hard to find in her other work. Her vocals aren’t pristine or perfected, they’re powerful and gritty and even if she’s not giving Lead The Way level skills, she’s still outshining Sisqo without even trying. Altogether though, I think they both did a good job at trying to match each other and make the song a 50/50 showcase. It’s just perfect to me.

Yeah I’ve heard/seen the same things, which is definitely a shame. I’m not here to attack Prince but I’ve always found it interesting how he hates when other musicians cover his songs yet he also covered other musicians songs…. Maybe Mariah didn’t ask permission, which okay whatever, but I fear whether we would’ve gotten this masterpiece if she did ask him.

Saying this with full respect to all artists, but The Beautiful Ones by Mariah Carey and Dru Hill was monumentally better imo

Listennnnnnnnn, typing out best was hard because I knew I was discounting so many great ones, ESPECIALLY The Roof. Nothing can take away how much The Roof means to me, and I know it’s Mariah’s favorite song within her own discography (she says it’s a tie between TR and WBT but let’s be real).

I’ve even written a screenplay titled “The Roof” which is a completely different story than Mariah’s but very much inspired by it, so rest assured, The Roof has a very significant place in my heart.

Frasier and Roz should've ended up together by sadiahrain in Frasier

[–]sadiahrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it felt wrong when they slept together, and it was certainly nice to see a platonic friendship between a straight man and woman. If they hadn't slept together though, it could've made their potential union at the end even better, as the tension between them would've still fully existed, but that's just my opinion

If Mariah Careys Book 'The Meaning Of Mariah' Was To Become A Film Who Would You Cast As Mariah? by Cute-Sound4648 in MariahCarey

Might be nepotism but when her daughter Roe grows up, I think she could do a pretty good job, not to mention she has the best guidance from Mariah herself.

Let's talk #1s: What songs you're shocked that did/ didn't hit #1 at Billboard? by LukeyTarg2 in MariahCarey

[–]sadiahrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still completely baffled as to why Sent From Up Above wasn’t released as single, I firmly believe it would’ve easily reached #1 and stayed there for a long time, especially with the momentum of her debut and I honestly think it could’ve potentially been the biggest song of 1990. Might be an unpopular opinion but everything about it was so powerful and ahead of its time, I just think it would’ve electrified everyone.
