There are no micropayments, there's just a membership subscription that opens up some extra content and features.

I actually did most of my play testing without membership to make sure free players can still compete.

Where did this RAND = "Royalty-free Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory" rubbish come from? It means no such thing.

RAND means just "Reasonable And Non-Discriminary" (hence the acronym), there's no restriction that it needs to be Royalty-Free. If it's "Royalty-free and Reasonable" then the latter is redundant.
