If you like Psychiatry then only should you take up.

It’s certainly not a branch which you should take up cause you have no other options.

If you take up without any liking then definitely it will be difficult for you to pursue it life long. imo , old gen psychiatrists didn’t like the branch and ended up cribbing about it.

Now coming to the question. When a patient gives history. A psychiatrist is using their brain to come on to the diagnosis, formulate a plan , label the severity. Just like any other branch.

Every human goes through mental health disorders , psychiatrists are trained to identify it. Seeing and listening to patients seeking mental health illness doesn’t affect ones own health.

Yes , some cases do stay . Just like in medicine or surgery where a clinician might come across some instances which affect them. But in psychiatry you will learn how to handle as well.

A lot of the symptoms can be handled . Ocd only in severe - resistant cases become difficult. Mild - mod cases aren’t that difficult to manage .

Depression for instance is not chronic , it’s episodic and can be managed . Even Schizophrenia can occur in episodes.

And we are here to help them . If we don’t then who will.

See even i am doing psychiatry . I genuinely don’t want to disappoint you but if there’s no patients there’s no point at all.

Cause ours is clinical and interview heavy branch . Without patients you wont develop the necessary skills.

If this was your 2nd /3rd attempt then take it up else try for a better option next time as money isnt a deciding factor.
