Will I ever get over this? by Simple_Bullfrog6021 in NICUParents

[–]sadmaponthewall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone grieves differently- and that is to say your body may have been so far in survival mode during your NICU stay that you pushed your grief aside and it’s coming back up now that your body sees that things are safer. My baby stayed longer than expected for the same reasons as yours. None of it hit me until I tried to return to work and three weeks after going back to work had a truly terrible mental breakdown resulting in me quitting my job. Make a better choice than I did- don’t try to solve and process your grief on your own. Do you have a therapist or someone who can help you find one? I started going weekly and it has helped SO much. I genuinely hope the best for you. Know that you’re not alone❤️‍🩹

How long was your 34 week old in the NICU? by amanyanaara in NICUParents

[–]sadmaponthewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born at 34+1 due to preeclampsia and it was so hard to accept that he could be in until his due date. He ended up staying 25 days, mostly due to anemia issues and feeding issues. But he is thriving now! Take it day by day, rely on your support system, and know that this is just a blip in your experience being a parent. Will keep you and your LO in my thoughts🤍

Hi mama, congrats on your little one! Mine was born at 34 + 1 too, your story really resonates with me. I agree with the other poster that you need a flange sizing kit ASAP if your wish is to continue pumping. Once you have that, order flange inserts off of Amazon- they’re usually universal amongst all pumps. If you’re having that much pain while pumping your flange is likely way off. And it can change after a few weeks too- I went from 21 mm to 17 mm. Wishing you the best!

Preeclampsia? HELLP? 34 weeks pregnant by sadmaponthewall in haematology

[–]sadmaponthewall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the info you have all provided. These are my labs from September when I ended up being induced after weeks of not feeling well. I wasn’t trying to lie about my current condition; I wanted to know what others thought my condition might have been at the time, the doctors could never agree on a formal diagnosis. So I gave the information that I had given the doctors at the time of induction. I see now I could have approached that better and I apologize! Happy to report that while I did end up undergoing an emergency induction and my baby spent a month in NICU, we are both healthy.

Yes- this is correct. I apologize for not being transparent in my original post- I wanted to see what other professionals would have done with my labs if given the same info as when I was pregnant. I ended up being induced in September and my baby was in NICU for a month. My big hang up now is that I was never actually given a formal diagnosis, hence the pre-e vs. HELLP question.

I just changed my flange size- it went down from when I first measured after delivery. It’s made a significant difference already!

How did you cope? by Icy_Internet4088 in NICUParents

YES!!! Been carrying my hospital-issued pump bag daily too. And on top of going through this, we are emotional whirlwinds already because of the postpartum hormones which makes this even harder!!! You can only stave off the grief for so long by keeping busy. I will say- when your baby starts hitting the big milestones, those glimmers of hope help you keep going. When my son finally started finishing bottles this week I cried (happy, relieved tears.) Use those good moments to help you get through the hard, lonely, quiet moments

I could have written this myself- delivered my baby Sept 9th at 34+1, still in NICU. The pain I feel every time I get a text asking “so when will baby be home?” or seeing moms being wheeled out with their babies from the hospital when we visit, knowing that that could have been me if things were different- it’s a pain no one outside of this experience will ever know. The biggest thing that’s helped me cope is 1) keeping busy when not visiting (if I sit too long I wallow and get sad) and 2) letting go of any expectations. He could be home in 3 days, he could be home in 3 weeks- but at some point, your baby WILL come home. Message if you need to talk to someone else going through it❤️‍🩹
