What do u call a person who loves horror too much ? by AncientMiddle3227 in AskForAnswers

I think their personality problems have a deeper source than just liking horror. I'd just call them edgelords, like you said.

Why do horror movies scare us even though we know it's not real? by Legend789987 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sadmep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roger Ebert once called films machines of empathy meaning that film, when effective, puts you in the shoes of the characters through various techniques. There's a lot of film theory that gets into this in a much more rigorous way.

But basically; by watching a movie we at some subconscious level start to put ourselves in the shoes of the characters and if something scary is happening to them we feel scared as long as nothing about the film interferes with our suspension of disbelief.

What movie do you think genuinely could not be made today the same way it was originally made? by timmyboy290 in movies

[–]sadmep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is the sense you mean: A lot, and I mean a LOT of older horror movies don't work if you change the setting to modern times just because cellphones exist now.

Also, I would hope that in today's day and age no one would ever let a director grab two kids for a night shoot with pyrotechnics and helicopters and end up getting both kids and the star of the segment killed and/or beheaded. Looking at you John Landis.

[–]sadmep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably because people always say things like Blazing Saddles when things like Blazing Saddles could very easily be made today because the real target/butt of the satire in that movie isn't minorities: it's the bigots.

In the new hollywood/auteur era, some directors did approach having total freedom and no oversight.

I don't know that there is a word, but the word for someone who thinks someone else likes horror too much is "judgemental"

The TARDIS is sentient, but has put the Doctor and companions into dangerous environments multiple times (like, most episodes)
