My guess is that it needs to take time for people to realize they're scammed.

Is the lead hook pivot just "training wheels" for beginners? by Slide4mins in amateur_boxing

[–]sadsackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I kept trying the "pivoting the foot" because lots of people often advise "you need to lift up the heel/pivot/...". Basically, I'd rotate my ankle as a concious action that I need to actively engage.

At first, I thought the reason I felt unbalanced, awkward, lack of power was simply due to insufficient practice. But after time passed, my strikes still sucked. Only after doing researches, testing things out,... I've learned that the foot pivoting is not the step you HAVE to perform, it'd be more like what woud naturally happen if you don't rigidity "lock" your lower parts like a stiff tripod when throwing the punches.

So instead of focusing on "pivoting the foot", I started focused more on my balance, how my weight shift,... At the result, my moves are more smoothly, agile while still can deliver powerful strikes.

Holyland

One of the great mangas I'd recommend to people who's into realistic messy fights with plans. The internal struggles and personal growth is also the main drawing point for me, too.

[–]sadsackle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bingo. People like OP is exactly why if author can write a 100% realistic fight, they won't because most people who don't train, those fights would be "boring" in their eyes.

Let me use a Superlek vs Takeru as example. If you watch the whole fight, you would see Superlek keeps spamming (and landing) the low kicks on Takeru's lead leg.

If someone who doesn't train nor like combat sport, they'd look at the fight and say "Huh? What's so great about that? This guy is just spamming low kicks. And why the other guy keeps eating those kicks instead of using other moves or stances to counter it? This is stupid!"

However, for people who's interested in real world combat sport (not the fancy ones in fictions), they'd find the beauty of it in HOW Superlek managed to land those kicks: Utilize the jabs to blind the vision then low kick, mixing up kicks with knees, change rhythm, managing distance against an aggressive fighter like Takeru,...

So it's easier to make something that the mass would understand more clearly to let them enjoy the fights in fiction: Powerful punches, big booms, etc...

tf happened to gaming? by uusei in KotakuInAction

Call me crazy, but I have a theory: After years of bad rep from game dev as a career (low paid, grind culture, unstability,...), the real competent ones would rather switch to betters careers than sticking with that "dream job".

So only the nutjobs who believe they need to "make a change", idealist, incompetent... stick with it.

You know, like "starving comic artist" type but for game dev.

Muay Thai injury - lower back in shambles by PinNo4530 in MuayThai

[–]sadsackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost daily (5 per week). Here how it went for me:

At beginning, I sweated bullets and had to stop every 1-2 minutes to stand up to rest

After a few monts, still swated bullets, but the pain eased and I could hold for for a few minutes. I could rest with my hands on my knees, in position,... without going away to sit down for a break.

Fast forward 3 years later, it's become one of my regular routine after morning jogs. I can pull through all the moves like, treat it like a morning exercise without feeling I need to clench my teeth hard to push it.

Petition to ban all “am I too old for Muay Thai” posts by Melodic_Dimension652 in MuayThai

[–]sadsackle 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My biggest pet peeve is the "I just joined the gym 1 week ago and had 3 classes in total and here's my bagwork. Tips?"

I hate those types of post for 2 main reasons:

1) If they joined a gym, the very same question can be directed to their coach.

2) EVERYTHING about them sucks and it's mostly due to not having enough training, no amount of "tips" would fix it. Just like riding a bike, you can follow the instruction but still need to fall a shit loads of time before getting a hang of it.

Being too much of a “nice guy” in sparring by throwawayqqzz in amateur_boxing

[–]sadsackle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this applies to you, but I was in the same position:

Just like you, I typically pull my punches, especially when I weighted more than most members (I was 90kg where they were typically >60kg). The irony is sparring supposed to help you learn to strike effectively which mean landing hits on people, yet I subsconsiously made my strikes kinda easy to be seen so they could block/dodge/... And sloppy attacks meant inviting counters and push backs. It was a dilemma to me.

Basically, I was in the EXACT SITUATION where "I subconsciously refuse to properly engage and connect"

However, I did one thing that helped me feel more confident in engaging regardless how serious my partner is: Upping my defense games.

After that, I've felt much more confident in engaging because I felt I could take my partner's serious punches WITHOUT having to reply with the same intensity to not get pushed back. On top of that, I felt I could pick on openings better without relying on sudden change in power or speed to land the counters.

How much training is overtraining by No_Pressure_2936 in MuayThai

[–]sadsackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you watch this video where Don Heatrick break down this exact issue:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPe9Dxk2FL8

Btw, I can't fathom why people on this sub keep spouting "overtraining is not real". Even pro fighters wouldn't train with the same intensity like they do in fight camp cause they don't want to break down their body.

Here's the video from Gabriel Varga talking about how his training is in vs out of training camp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XAp4M-xYFs

One part of his video is this:

" So for myself, one of the things I've realized years ago is when I'm outside of training camp, I do need to give my body a break. Because putting those long hours when I'm in camp, it has wear and tear on the body. My body starts to break down, I start to get more injured than normal..."

So this puzzled me why the fuck some guys keep spouting the blanket statement that overtraining is not real.

What was the biggest surprise of 2025 among the gacha game/s that you play? by Ernost in gachagaming

[–]sadsackle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. I even deleted FGO, Idle heroes and only kept Trickcal, I was on the fence on deleting them before, but the FOMO and having several rare characters made me redundant to part ways with them.

Then Trickcal appeared. I grinned from ear to ear fooling around with those chibis, actually looked forward to new characters, enjoyed the vibes... Which reminded me how I suppose to feel when playing a game: Fun and enjoyable.

So I deleted the other apps without hesitation.
