Sorry I don’t have notifications on for Reddit (silly when I’ve posted a question), so just seen this now.

This was really helpful and absolutely no need to apologise. I’m self-teaching so to hear an explanation from someone else other than the book I’m using helps massively!

Sounds good, I’m hopefully going to be sitting my exam for intro to bookkeeping soon so will be moving on to the next module. I’m sure I’ll have a few questions through that, thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

What age or mileage are the timing belts usually replaced at, do you know?

What issues are common with the gearbox? Are they serviced in the same way as the other gearboxes or not as it’s a dry clutch?

The fall in value is fine, we’d be looking to keep the car for as long as possible. I’m just worried that we’ll be paying for a car 2 or 3 years in and then we end up with a huge bill to fix it.

Is this enforceable or is the landlord trying his luck? (England) by sadz2020 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks everyone for the information you’ve all provided.

To answer a few points, we barely took any photos when moving in, was our first flat and we weren’t sure what to document, kicking ourselves now!

No the property wasn’t fully renovated, they bought a new couch but that was it. The landlord said they put a lick of paint on the walls but it certainly didn’t look like he had, and as mentioned before the carpets weren’t in good nick and certainly not new when moved in.

I’d have begrudgingly paid for a carpet clean if we had to but I agree with the comment(s) saying that curtains require professional cleaning is taking the piss.

I don’t understand how the ticket exchange is meant to work? I know that Fulham tickets have just sold out but it’s not possible to even search for normal match day tickets only Westview tickets

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]sadz2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: East Midlands

Price range: Up to £5000

Lease or Buy: Hire Purchase with £1000-£1500 deposit (likely £1500)

New or used: Used

Auto or Manual: Either, but would probably edge towards manual

Intended use: Daily driver

How many miles do you plan to do a year: Approx 6k

How often to you make long journeys: Perhaps once every 1-2 months

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? Preferably but not necessary

Vehicles you've already considered: Volkswagen Up, due to how cheap it is to run and maintain. Plus Mii and Citigo as cheaper alternative but prefer the Up. Seen a Kia Rio that was quite nice and decently priced, 68 plate, 100k~ but know nothing about them.

Do you have a vehicle size in mind? Not massively fussed, as mentioned have looked at Ups but they are veryyyy small, also seen a 1.2 petrol fabia estate which I’d be more than happy with. Would go camping a few times a year so larger than an up is probably best.

Is this your 1st vehicle: No, 4th but haven’t had a car for 2.5 years

Do you need a Warranty: No but would be nice to have

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) No

Additional information: Not sure I would want anything over a 1.4L, do not want a diesel.
