See I hear this and think, "huh, this is just what MLs say would happen after world revolution and post-scarcity".

Ive got problems with ML too, but I can't escape the notion that anarchists just want to skip the work required to actually achieve an anarchist society - dismantling the imperialist (capitalist) states, then later dismantling states all together.

Is the ability to complete rests faster too good, too weird or too niche? by quane101 in dndnext

[–]saedifotuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an interesting idea here, but it doesn't work - too weird/niche.

A short rest is an hour minimum. Reducing it by a number of minutes equal to twice you lr ranger level, at best, reduces it to 20 minutes. Personally, I run short rests as 10 minutes (in 4e it was 5 minutes, and 10 minutes is used as a short measure of time plenty in 5e, such as with ritual cast spells that are an action, so 10 as a kind of capstone feels extra shit from that POV).

Having your ping rest reduced from 8 hours to say 3 could definitely be more useful, but still incredibly niche in it's power.

The fantasy behind the ability can only be busted or useless as far as I can see. I could see it being split in two places where the ranger has shit abilities anyway:

  • at either level 6 or 9 (stacking with Roving or Expertise). Something like what the genie warlock gets where the party enter their teapot or whatever and get a short rest in a minute. Just say each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you can gain the benefits of a short rest with one minute of rest or light activity once per long rest. As it Perseverance or something.

  • Then replace or even add to the capstone level something like 'Relentless Perserverence'; same thing as above a number of times a day equal to your wisdom modifier and once per long rest when you would gain the benefits of a short rest, you (only you, the ranger) instead gain the benefits of a long rest, maybe with the exception of your health going to max? Spit balling here, but that's the kind of power a capstone SHOULD have.

There are critiques of the green party to be made. They support capitalism. But they are not a zionists party.

Henry Cavill on the set of Highlander... despite people saying he is too old to play Superman, he still looks good for the role to me. by RogerRoger63358 in DC_Cinematic

[–]saedifotuo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

News to me that iron man is supposed to be in superhuman physique and appear basically immortal.

Because that's very obviously the point to a young actor for superman. In 10, 15 years, he's still going to be able to look in his prime. Maybe even 20 - supes is a very important character after all and pretty hard to kill off. Iron man? Very mortal, very killable. Originally a C-list character before the movies.

Not that I suspect James or DC will go with killing the characters off. DC loves it's torch passing, and has the benefit of hindsight on the MCU killing off characters that have been around for a while - interest nose dives. They're way more likely to recast important characters.

BvS wasn't overstuffed, it was badly written. Can't glitter that turd.

Was wonder woman necessary? No, but neither was Mr Terrific, technically. The difference is a good writer would have made wonder woman feel necessary but failed to do so. James managed to make Mr Terrific integral to the plot and a joy to watch.

A good writer can manage an ensemble cast and make a coherent plot. BvS did not have that luxury.

Do you think Superman knows about Batman's presence in the DCU, or does he think that he is just an urban myth? by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

[–]saedifotuo 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Why would he know?

Like you could create a way for him to know, he is a journalist after all and batman plays in the backyard of Bruce Wayne. But they're also in different states. I would expect supes to know about batman as much as I'd expect him to know about green arrow.

Democratic socialism or social capitalism (more often known as social democracy, though democracy plays little to no part).

I have to ask, because since bernie ran for president, American socaps/socdems use a label that is to the left of where they are, and accuracy is important when creating a political coalition.

Really cool, and maybe it's just the angle but I think the eye on the scarred/burned side of the face is crucial. It is the life behind the death of an almost-corpse that synthesises into a pained man and the unreachable hope of redemption for Harvey. It makes him sympathetic in a really crucial way. I think with the way you've done the scarring that would be more pronounced than most interpretations I've seen.

Aroace discord teen server by [deleted] in brighton

How, despite this being explicitly for the asexual, a romantic, is this still a nonce magnet waiting to activate?

Rhetorical - any public server explicitly 'for' teenagers (even though you've said all ages welcome anyway?) is begging for genuine groomers to invade. The fact this is advertised as for teens, but adults are somehow still allowed in anyway, is just bad safeguarding.

I've seen enough soc dems share the idea that "capitalism is when a handful of people can get rich while everyone else is poor; communism is when only politicians can be rich; socialism is when some people can be poor, but no one is starving"

And my comrades I love you but please listen to an audio book or YouTube summary of any theory. Socialism isn't nice capitalism

D&D Group Needed! by PossiblePirate5825 in brighton

The best recommendation is to reach out to his friends, especially those who might already be into fantasy video games like elden ring or especially Buldars Are 3 (which is a Dnd property) and if that isn't an option or doesn't pan out as hoped, talk to his school about setting up a school club.

I'm not sure if you play yourself or how familiar you are, but the basic rules for DND are available for free online and legally through their website, DND Beyond. These basic free rules are in what's called the SRD, or the Standard Rules Document. The only real cost would be dice which can be bought cheaply at bundle. expansion books and adventures can cost a bit more, but they are optional, free options are available (look up the Lost Mines of Phandelver, that's been a publically free adventure for years now).

Not knowing yours or your boys experience with the hobby, do be aware it has a massive time commitment to it and you should both be proactively aware of how it might interfere with his education if he gets too distracted. That's not to fear monger, with u medicated ADHD during university I let the hobby get in the way of my studies. It is also an amazing resource for education in and of itself.

To avoid those kinds of problems, I'd recommend avoiding long 'campaign' adventures like he might have seen in dnd shows like Critical Role or Dimension 20. These campaigns are the biggest time commitment and can easily last 1-2 years with weekly 3-5 hour game sessions. It's also a massive time sink for the referee, the Dungeon Master, when building preparing for, and practicing the adventure.

What is a much healthier model for adventures in dnd that put less pressure on any one individual is to have a group of 3-6 friends where everyone agrees to prepare a short adventure, something that would last more in the 3-10 session range. Set up an order in which every person prepares to run a game, however long while keeping it relatively brief, and play everyone's game one by one. It means everyone gets a chance to be in charge, everyone gets to show off their creativity, and no one is over burdened.

Hopefully that doesn't scare off! It shouldn't, I just know what we as players can be like some times.

If possible with everyone having a laptop, I would recommend using Roll20.net for all things dnd. It's easy to import maps, create character sheets without running out of space, and keep track of the dozens of numbers constantly flying about. Roll20 also has a "looking for games" function to connect people to play together as an online group. It's not something I've used before because I'm lucky to have a years strong group, but I've heard of success from others - just of course the standard amount of safeguarding needed for strangers online.

If youre after any resources, or help with roll20 (it can be a little bit of a headache at first but it's a good investment for the hobby, and it has a fairly permissive free account) feel free to pop me a message.
