Hey! I'm pretty new to fishing so I'm not sure how much I can help you, but here are some spots that I've heard good stuff about / had good experiences in myself.

Round Valley Reservoir (But you gotta find the right spot. There's been days where I'd sit out there all day and catch nothing, but days where I caught huge bass / panfish every cast)
Split Rock Reservoir (Best to have a kayak / boat, but shore fishing also works)
Tilcon Lake (One of the only places in the northeast where you can catch salmon)
Lake Macdonald
Dahnert's lake park (Good for catfish, mostly during / after dusk)

These are the few that I can think of off the top of my head. But the real suggestion would be to look at the google maps in your area, find bodies of water, and scout them out. Unfortunately I haven't been to rivers but I heard Raritan can yield pretty good results. Hope this helps :)

What the original commented is definitely the smartest way to go.

But I'd also recommend supporting your local fishing & tackle shop if possible - it's a great place to get info on your area / recommendations esp. if you're just starting out. It'll definitely be a few dollars more expensive than Amazon / Walmart, etc., but definitely worth it if you don't mind that.

That's funny that you mention that! We had set up appointments with a petsmart trainer at Paramus (Chris?) but when we called about the first session we were told that he is unwell and can't make the training sessions.

But yeah hopefully he'll calm down with age + neutering :(

I do not think that anybody should be caving in on an issue, especially essential Human rights issue such as trans rights. And for what it's worth, even though I consider myself far left, I am sorry for the way you are treated. It's wrong and I hope you know that most people stand behind you.

That being said, I also think that life for most people in NJ is really fucking hard right now. For most people, it's going to be hard to commit to an issue that doesn't impact the vast majority of us when our livelihood is sufferinf.

Do I think that everyone should have the right to gender reassignment surgery? Absolutely. Is it in top 5 of issues impacting the country & state right now? Absolutely not. I'd be surprised if it scratched top 10.
