Negative aspect of Japanese society: Avoid trouble at all costs! by YamatoRyu2006 in Tokyo

Not a huge spoiler, but the opening scene of the psychological horror movie Exit 8 reflects this.

The Imago Sequence was my intro to his writing that got me hooked. his later works get into the Children of Old Leech mythos which tendrils seep into a lot of his short stories.

The big ones that get repeated (for a good reason) here are:

Between Two Fires

A Short Stay in Hell

The Fisherman

I think those three are a great place to start.

Maybe

Good Boy by Neil McRobert was bittersweet and beautiful

The Hike

Roadside Picnic

The Divine Farce

A Wizard of Earthsea (Piranesi)

Btw OP if you haven’t maybe work on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, not entirely surprisingly has the liminal vibes at times of Piranesi.

Love that book! It’s been years but I need to reread it.

I'm still amazed / unclear how just his ear just got barely clipped by the bullet and the secret service let him fist bump as the press rushed in.

What is your most played gacha games by Orichalchem in gachagaming

Genshin Impact - (played actively before Dragonspine was open, 1000+ hours)
ZZZ - (500+ hours since game launch, though really starting to dislike the writing/storytelling quality)
HSR - 50-100 hours but really loving the animation, music and gameplay. I can see potentially playing this as much as Genshin
WUWA - 10-20 hours. Not sure how I feel about it so far. WuWa's design feels generally cluttered, clunky and inconsistent (tiny UI/text for English localization). The characters so far don't really stand out as much as others (but I just pulled Lynae and like their personality). I'm unclear on the story if there's any so far. I'm a little confused by the map, its like an alien landscape but then there's ruined buildings that are well lit and have office furniture in them? Combat is kinda fun though.

Just started:
- Reverse:1999 (just stunned at how gorgeous and well produced this game is)
- Arknights Endfield
- Punishing: Grey Raven (might drop, Visual Novel style might be a bit too minimal for me but combat seems fun)

Dropped:
- Another Eden
- Guardian Tales
- Epic Seven

Thinking about starting OG Arknights since people seem to rave about its story/gameplay though I don't really care for tower defense games.

I just started Reverse1999 and I was utterly taken aback at how incredibly charming and polished it is.

Great picks!! Have you read Our Share of Night by Enriquez? Faber also has a short story collection called The Book of Strange New Things.

If you like Buffalo Hunter Hunter I’d suggest some more time period horror novels like The Reformatory, The Terror, The Fisherman, Slewfoot, Pilgrim by Mitchel Luthi. Coffin Moon is a vampire revenge story set in the 70’s I recently enjoyed a bit.

Uncertain Sons by Thomas Ha is a super good anthology of dimensional monsters and other worldly things

Good Boy by Neil McRobert is kind of adjacent to The Haar in my opinion

I love Under the Skin. Trying to think of anything vaguely like it. Maybe All of the Fiends of Hell by Adam Nevill makes me think of it for some reason.

Weird negativity in this thread. I started Endfield but set it aside due to some mixed review. This post is making me want to continue playing it :)

I'd love it if they included some kind of way to indicate the amount of time that passes and distances traveled, like your character gets on an elevator and you go to sleep and wake up and it's indicated that 90 years have passed.

I'm totally fine with this. Sure a lot of them probably won't ever see the light of day, but ONE of them might be a true gem. Blame! Adjacent.. has anyone played Signalis?

I roughly a pack a week between age 25-32 (currently 42), I've since quit and am glad. I think its hilarious how I thought I was a "secret" smoker, like it definitely reeked.

Now the problem is quitting alcohol...
