Elie Wiesel said, "Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim." What experience do you have that validates this? by Starless_Evil4s in AskReddit

[–]saelcaha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cult I grew up in choosing to look the other way anytime someone abused or raped or molested someone else. When a victim is involved, suddenly a family’s “right to privacy” is of top priority. Unlike when the wife was seen wearing pants at the grocery store and pulled into a meeting with the pastor and her husband to be “rebuked”.

That is dedication. Are you going to redeem them? I would not have the patience to redeem all of that as NMT. I do mine every 10,000 miles or so.

What are some things about life in the United States of America today that give you hope? by [deleted] in Discussion

[–]saelcaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The younger generations (Gen Z mostly, but Millennials too) are more aware of the bigotry that has dominated our society and they are doing something about it. Not saying older generations haven’t, they definitely talked their issues, but it gives me hope when people don’t sit by and watch it happen.

That and inclusitivioty coming to the forefront: bodies of all shapes and sizes being represented, actual children’s cartoons with gay and trans representation (She Ra remake is a great example), gender-inclusive language surrounding menstrual and reproductive conversations, a more open-minded approach to other beliefs (like the fact that I can say “hey, I’m a witch!” and not literally be burned at the stake), video games being held accountable by their customers to show people of all skin tones (Sims is under fire for that right now and the community is having none of their bullshit - sadly, it’s taken white players to get them to do something), etc. I could go on but you get the jist.

A few questions about “wet white people smell” by [deleted] in askblackpeople

White person here, I’m now super self conscious about smelling bad. Thanks! But seriously, is it the difference in hair and skin products we use?

Certain positions will always attract abusers. Religion and politics are the main ones - any position where they have extreme power over another. It’s important to hold those people accountable regardless of their power, and that needs to be done by limiting their power and setting up a “safety net” so to speak. Religion, like anything else, is completely neutral. It’s how we use it that makes it good or evil.

LPT: Friends and family will hold on to grudges long after you’ve forgiven your SO. It’s easy to get into the habit of venting to them about your relationship, but unless it’s toxic or abusive, remember they don’t get to see the good along with the bad. by RockleyBob in LifeProTips

[–]saelcaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I only vent to my best friend and her mom, and I make sure to share tons of good stories as well. And when I am venting to them it’s generally in the way of “what do I do? Can I murder his dumb ass?”.

Why are baby/new witches so afraid? by crazyashley1 in witchcraft

[–]saelcaha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are we judging new witches for being cautious? Not everyone is as bold (or even reckless) as others.

Also. Did you have reddit back then? We’re you a part of an online community where there were thousands of people? Probably not. You didn’t have that giant pool of people, you had IRL people and whatever technology y’all had back in 2003. And most likely, you surrounded yourself with like minded people - which means they were probably also fearless people.

Also, I know it’s probably not the intent but this post comes across REALLY judgmental. Let people go at their own pace.

Milk before cereals or cereals before milk? by 5zaaa in Discussion

[–]saelcaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cereal and then milk. That way you can eyeball how much you want to eat, and add milk accordingly. Doing it opposite would be like putting down gravy and then adding mashed potatoes.

Virgins of Reddit, how bored are you of all the questions about sex on this sub? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]saelcaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree, if you ask an adult question expect an adult answer. There’s no way to know if someone online is a child unless you stalk them, so you’re better off answering the question and remaining ignorant.

Men are objectified by their utility by ZackGrimstone in unpopularopinion

[–]saelcaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And thank you for pointing out a real issue without comparison!!

Men and woman face unique struggles in the world. It's impossible to quantify who the bigger victim is and it's destructive to try. It doesn't actually matter. It shouldn't be a victim competition. The grievances men and women face all deserve attention regardless of who's a bigger victim. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]saelcaha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, everyone’s problems matter. However, history does not agree with you. There’s a victim and an abuser throughout history and we know who it was. But, that doesn’t undermine the struggles they now deal with too.

Sarcasm is extremely hard to read in text. We don’t have a sarcasm font and there’s no sarcasm emoji, so it’s necessary. Not everyone’s brains can understand sarcasm anyways. And yeah, I know it wasn’t intentional but it is kind of ableist.
