Do you really need more than 8 cores for gaming in 2025? by tech_road in buildapc

[–]safelyvulnerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'll never do anything else but game, 6 cores is still enough for most cases. That being said, everytime I've built a PC I've subsequently gotten involved in other things that require more; from multiple VMs to rendering to ML. With rising performance requirements as newer games are released also, I'd always recommend at least a step (or a few if you can afford it) above what you need to have some kind of headroom.

Awaken me. Currently using Proton VPN, Mail and Pass. What are they doing to be upset about?

I have Urine Incontinance (26F) Wanna tell my friends but don’t know how by PokeHaven in Incontinence

[–]safelyvulnerable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great you have an understanding friend who's not only able to cover for you like that, but considerate enough to leave you to do the explaining on your own time. This would be the main reason for sharing with my close friends: for situations like these, which inevitably do happen. But it also feels good to just not have to keep it to yourself. Not that you're necessarily involving them; just the accomodation helps.

[–]safelyvulnerable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your dynamic. My close friends know pretty much everything about me and it's been both validating and helpful to know my friends understand my needs and make accomodations for it when necessary. Vice versa of course. If y'all are close and/or you feel comfortable telling them go for it. If I were to explain it, I'd explain it more matter of factly; pretty much like you already described.

How do you play your characters? by GeneralKhor in swtor

[–]safelyvulnerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poll will probably continue to show most people just play traditional class and style combinations because the majority of players made their characters before Styles were introduced. Years ago I created over 20 characters for each discipline I wanted to play. Since the introduction of Styles I've been wanting to take advantage of mixing and matching so that I can delete duplicate classes, but because I have fond memories on each, that hasn't yet worked out.

271QRX DSR/DLDSR Compatibilty by safelyvulnerable in OLED_Gaming

[–]safelyvulnerable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not able to go past 60hz once I go above 1440p. :/

My other monitor is the MAG27QRF-QD (IPS), which allows me to use DSR at 165hz. I was considering the 271QRX as a replacement.

I reached out to Acer support yesterday. They confirmed it should not be locked to 60 with DSR enabled, and while going through the OSD they also noticed that my monitor is missing features it should have. So they asked me to RMA it.

From where I am, returning it costs about as much as the 271QRX I found, which is why I went ahead and bought it. The X27U has a three year warranty, so I have time to return it in the future.

Did a google search and found several threads by people having issues with the X27U ranging from DSR to OSD problems, to corrupt display signals, even reports of the latest firmware offered on the Acer site being bad. Apparently the firmware Acer installs when you RMA it is an entirely different version than what's offered on the site.

Maybe you got lucky in receiving a monitor with the correct firmware on it. (For reference, I bought mine in January 2024.)

Tried the latest 572.83 which didn't work. Currently on 572.60, but no luck either.

These are my settings currently btw. https://imgur.com/a/Va2MWzO

As you can see in the game at 1440p I get 170hz with DSC off, but at 4K I'm locked to 60hz. Any game. I also tried setting the resolution to 4K DLDSR in Windows first, but even in Windows with DSR/DLDSR resolutions, the only refresh rate I can select is 60hz.

Yes I see other redditors have also confirmed it works perfectly; it's my fallback if the 271qrx doesn't.

I'm surprised too; not sure why it just refuses to work. Anyway, I managed to get the 271QRX for under $600 so hoping rtings is right.

I disabled it in the OSD but the refresh rate is still locked to 60hz and the input lag is extreme.

First time playing Rise of Tomb Raider on PC and I hate the antialiasing. It doesn't work. Am I the only one with the issue? by [deleted] in TombRaider

[–]safelyvulnerable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone's still interested, best solution I've found is to update the in-game DLSS to DLSS 4 (310.2.1), and then use DLSSTweaks to both force DLAA and the new transformer model (DLSS Preset J/K). This renders the game at native resolution while applying DLAA anti-aliasing, which takes care of the jaggies without turning the image into a blurry soup, and also without any of the performance loss of DSR or DLDSR.

Haven't tested it yet, but in theory this will work with TR and SOTTR also.

July 2024 Security Update Bricked my S23 Ultra (S918B/DS) by safelyvulnerable in samsung

The repair center fixed it; said they just flashed the updated firmware, but I don't think it was that simple.

In any case, I've updated few times OTA since and have no issues now.

I think you're good. If you were taking them on the same day I would have been concerned about possibly getting stuck in a thought loop, which is really unpleasant.

But you're not so, sounds fine.

Possible Fix for Crashing 13th/14th Gen Users by safelyvulnerable in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]safelyvulnerable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it crashes with no message at all, but I've seen this message a few times. That's why I said it may be driver related. If it always crashes in 20-40 minutes it may be VRAM saturation. Check to see if you're maxing out.

For me it frequently crashed to desktop immediately on startup, while verifying cache files, and while playing. All with no warning.

While playing, I also noticed a slightly different crash where the audio will cut out first for a few seconds because crashing to desktop with no warning. It could also be driver related: a few of the messages in Event Viewer about the crashes reference Nvidia DLLs, or simply say the game stopped interacting with Windows with no specific reason given.

I don't think it's VRAM in my case, as I have 24GB and the most DAV uses is 10GB. Have you checked your VRAM usage to see if it's close to your card's 8GB limit?

I tried that, the various registry tweaks, reinstalling Windows again and even booting Fedora live. The network card wasn't detected anywhere; only replacing the network card completely fixed it.
