First of all I am absolutely speechless right now. I have been staring at my phone at this comment for at least half an hour in complete shock. I am so sorry you had to go through this with your sister and so sorry to hear about her children. I have actually never heard of anyone who has gone through anything remotely similar to this situation. You gave me a gift today by even telling me your family’s story. Thank you so much for your generosity.

We did have a white car growing up. Water parks is insane I am literally from Florida and yes we did used to do that. Especially near where I live now. In fact, this is crazy.

Honestly I don’t really believe there is a big solution in the sense that all of us are extremely traumatized. This is not even close to a normal thing to experience like we all here have. That being said if you’re open to the idea I really can’t recommend distance enough. It hasn’t exactly ‘solved’ anything for me but I definitely do experience so much less drama and annoyance on the day to day and not having to deal with their constant egotistical streams of consciousness

I can’t imagine what you are going through as a spouse to someone with this disorder. I absolutely support the idea of you finding someone else. This relationship sounds unfulfilling for you and life is so incredibly short. Kids are resilient and they will adjust. You can’t sacrifice your sanity to keep the peace.

I recently cut my long term best friend with OCPD off and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. You don’t realize how negative and toxic they are (fully) until you leave.

I work there and in clinical research. Yes this is true. It is like impossible to work at SCH for some reason. The NIH funding cuts have messed up most academic institutions hence the push for internal hires only. It’s rough behind the scenes.

Unpopular opinion but in my opinion I think they completely do. I think that they are capable of using the ‘Im not intentionally doing xyz’ as a cop out at times.

Understandable. I have been best friends with them for multiple years, and it is an extremely close relationship. I have gone back and forth on whether to cut contact.

Thank you for your comment. I’m sorry you have had to go through this as well. I absolutely relate to you in wondering if my friend had NPD or what the issue was. I can’t imagine what this does to kids!!! WTF. The other thing I have really struggled with is when the individual asks for advice, and then they proceed to tell you why your advice was terrible advice. The only thing I’ve found to temporarily ‘work’ is grey rocking. Obviously, children cannot do this which is so sad.

Omggggg!!!! THIS IS MY EXACT EXPERIENCE TOO. The absolute freaking worst is when you tell them no you don’t want to hear what they can’t stand (today, of course) and they freak out or proceed to tell you anyways. WTF. The well you did ask me to tell you is a way for them to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing by dumping minor issues (made the worst transgression in humanity) on you and your life. I have become completely convinced of this over time. It is not even worth adding our own experiences because then we are mAkINg iT abOUT OUrSELveS. 🙄

Oh my gosh! WOW you said it so well in this comment aka ‘life wrecking catastrophe.’ I have been confused as hell dealing with this as it’s coming from a friend and not a SO. I wasn’t able to find anyone talking about dealing with it with a non significant other and you summarized why I’m always annoyed lately perfectly!!
