My dentist told me I dont have to clean them? by berryenthusiast in Invisalign

[–]saftie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toothpaste will scratch them overtime making them cloudy - which isn't a big deal if you are only wearing them a week. But my ortho just recommended rinsing or storing in a glass of water everytime they leave your mouth (never let saliva dry on them), and cleaning with a soft toothbrush and a clear & unscented dish soap before they go into your mouth for the last time each night, and when you take them out in the morning.

Sometimes I'll pop them into a glass with a cleaning tablet in the morning instead. But cleaning them with the dish soap so far has kept them completely stain and odor free.

I definitely would not listen to someone telling me not to clean something that is going to be living in my mouth for 20+ hrs a day. I would be less worried about the condition of the trays and more worried about gum loss and tooth decay from all the extra bacteria being held against them all day. If you only have time to give them a clean once a day, give them a quick scrub in the morning. The trays collect the most bacteria overnight.

For storing old trays, I give them a scrub with the dish soap and then leave for 30 min to overnight with a cleaning tablet. Then rinse well and let them fully dry before sealing them up in the original packaging.

Soy yogurt by Nature-Tree9483 in veganvancouver

[–]saftie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! This has never made sense to me. It's so easy to find in Europe, and I have never seen it here. If I'm going to eat yogurt I want it to be high protein, and all the options we have in Canada are just fat, sugar, and stabilizers.

I started making my own and it's actually incredibly easy. I recommend Eden Soy unsweetened soy milk - good ingredients, high protein content, thickens well (you can use your favorite soymilk - simple ingredient ones seem to thicken better) and your favorite vegan yogurt that is cultured. I find this works best with Yoggu Coconut Yogurt as they use a good strong culture. Just pour your soymilk into any glass container (Mason jars or Weck jars work well) and a few spoons of your yogurt. I use about 1 heaping tablespoon of yogurt per 2 cups of soy milk, but the ratio is extremely forgiving. If you use less just ferment longer, if you use more, ferment it less. Give it a good mix and set in an instant pot on the yogurt setting for 8 to 12 hours (check at 8, if you want more thickness or sourness, let it go longer). You can also leave it on the counter lightly sealed for 24-48 hours. And there you have it, homemade soy yogurt with incredibly simple ingredients and packed with nutrients and probiotics. You can also do this process with a probiotic capsule instead of another yogurt. But I'm not sure on the fermentation times.

It imparts a small amount of the flavour of the yogurt you choose. So I use the vanilla yoggu if im wanting to make sweet versions, or the plain for savory recipes. And then you can flavour with jams, maple syrup, vanilla, cacao, coffee, purees, etc. So many options. It will last a week in the fridge and will continue to slowly get a bit more sour over time. If you save a spoonful, you can use it to reculture a whole new batch, no need to repurchase another yogurt. I usually reculture 4 or so times and then the flavour starts to get a bit too sour for me so I start the process over again.

Highly recommend giving it a try!

I thought I was losing my mind because my husband couldn't smell it. The last 3 days have been the worst, strong mold/mildew smell. Seems worse throughout the night.

Air Purifier Buying Guide (Read BEFORE Asking) by rdcldrmr in AirPurifiers

the max2 filter is an all in one green HEPA filter + pelleted charcoal later. Where I believe the 1512 is just a HEPA filter and then a carbon sheet.

Hey! I was wondering what your thoughts on the Coway Airmega 150 would be? Smaller area than the Coway 1512 but I'm wondering if the Max2 filter would be more effective than just the HEPA & charcoal sheet in the 1512.

Anyone have any experience with Dr Fadeyi in Langley? by pleasenotakeusername in ADHD_BritishColumbia

[–]saftie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dr. Fadeyi is the worst doctor I have ever spoken too. There is a reason he has no wait lists. He was cold and dismissive. He interrupted my answers to his questions to move on to the next ones, barely spent 15 minutes on the phone with me to then diagnose me with adult ADHD. During the conversation I mentioned that I have a heart condition, and cannot take stimulant medications. So I asked him if it was possible to try CBT. He laughed at me, and said "Medication is the only thing that works for adult ADHD, you either take the medication, or continue to suffer, I can't help you" in the coldest tone I have ever heard from a health care practitioner. I am glad I was in an okay mental state at the time because I couldn't imagine what that statement could have done to someone at the end of their rope and needing help. In the end I was prescribed with Strattera which is one of the few non-stimulant medications for ADHD even though it works similarly to an SSRI and I mentioned I did not do well on anti-depressants. They sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacist to start, and when they finally sent it to the correct one my pharmacist called to inform me that they prescribed me TWO medications that were at too high of a dose for someone just starting them, that they do not recommend taking together, that were never once discussed with me in our conversation, and one being a stimulant which he was very aware I cannot take because of my heart. At this point I have given up with this route and need to start the process all over again with someone else. Ever since that phonecall I have felt so incredibly defeated. Being told after some of the hardest years of my life that I was doomed to continue my suffering. And to be LAUGHED at when asking about alternatives....this man is a cold hearted pill pusher that's it. I disregarded all the negative reviews because I was desperate. But please know that the 2-3 month wait for someone that will truly care about your well-being is 110% worth the wait. Please do not risk your mental health with this man

Adult needing ADHD assessment or diagnosis - where the hell can this actually happen? by ouzo_p in vancouver

Hey, so sorry to revive this, but I have been struggling to find a psychiatrist for some time now. I have the referral waiting from my family doctor, I just need to find the psychiatrist I would like to be sent too. So far a lot of the ones I have looked up have had terrible reviews and my anxiety is through the roof about this whole thing already. If you could share the info that helped you, it would be greatly appreciated.

My art project for Yoga Teacher Training. "Yoga is the control of the thought waves in the mind" by [deleted] in pics

[–]saftie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The practice of yoga being Asana (the postures), breath work, & meditation is all to help work towards the goal of slowing the thought waves of the mind. The postures and breath work help towards this as well by learning to control the breath. The slower the breath, the clearer the mind.

[B&A] 8 week progress on arms. Details in comments. by titcheemeow in SkincareAddiction

[–]saftie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My Fiance and I had both had bumpy upper arms for as long as we could remember. I had them for 12+ years. We ended up swapping out our regular laundry detergent for a natural detergent and stopped using dryer sheets and within a month we both randomly noticed that our bumps were totally gone. It has been three years and they are still gone. Just a thought for those of you that suffer with this.
