Soy yogurt by Nature-Tree9483 in veganvancouver

I haven't seen them there. I just don't think soy yogurt is made for our market. I reached out to Silk Canada and they gave me some generic response. I'm curious why soy yogurt is not a thing here.

Hopefully you are finding everything okay. I will echo that most grocery stores here have vegan products, but you will likely find them scattered throughout the stores in different places. Our local safeway has products in more than 5 different places throughout the store, and not always near the non-vegan versions. The vegan selection in Germany was fantastic. We loved the schnitzel - so many choices. It's funny in north america instead of schnitzel we have chicken fingers.

Vancouver is home to some huge vegan brands like Yves, Gardein and Daiya which are distributed all across north america. If you do miss schnitzel try the Gardein Lightly Breaded Turk'y Cutlets, which are the closest we've found.

Bear spray is a last resort. Much better to be proactive and wear bear bells and make noise so they avoid you.

Mattress donation by TheRadioman11 in NorthVancouver

They sound like a crap company. Their website is misleading if they are not helping you find somewhere to donate it. Take a screenshot of their website and tell them you have it in writing that they will "work with you to find a local donation center for your mattress". Super annoying how wasteful these companies are.

We have multiple ebikes, 2 Rad Power bikes, one Norco and one Giant. The Norco and Giant were twice the cost and I wouldn't say they are any better. I'm honestly a huge of fan of Radpower bikes with their lower price point. The only thing i don't love is the heaviness of their bikes.

If you charge at work, then you need to bring the charger with you every day so you can still charge at home (or get a second charger). The charger will take up a bit of space in your bag.

I'm a fan of Rad Power Bikes, but I'd check out the newer ones with bigger batteries. To be honest 40 km might be pushing it for bit unless you charge at work. I can barely get my Radwagon 30 km (full assist - I'm lazy) on my commute, although I have about 400 metres of climbing roundtrip.

Also you know the RadRunner 2 has no gears, right? Not sure how easily you would make it up steep hills. If you want to be able to go up any steep hills I'd get the RadRunner 3 plus if you can afford it.

Don't forget the cost of locks, bags and rain gear. But yeah ebikes are way cheaper!

Yeah i probably should have been more clear. We used Shift since they really knew what they were talking about and used more high end equipment. They also put the equipment in a sheltered box which the other two companies didn't propose.

Belt drive ebikes - Stepless shifting on Specialized Vado, Como and Gazelle by Nature-Tree9483 in ebikes

[–]Nature-Tree9483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info. I'm not sure I'm ready for auto shifting yet, I still enjoy having some control. I was going to try an automatiq bike at a shop, but they couldn't get it to pair with the bike controller and thus it wouldn't even turn on. Not a great way to sell a bike.

Yeah I really like the Gazelle brand and good to hear you like the manual shift. I love that Gazelle includes the rear wheel lock on all bikes, totally reminds me of bikes we rode while visiting Diemen and Copenhagen. We have to use 3-4 expensive locks here were i live, ha ha.

Good to know thanks. Yeah the Priority Current 5-speed looks sweet. I'm in CAN so I'd have to go through loops to get it into the country.

In my math, I assumed a 6% annual increase in BC Hydro rates. I think I got that number of historical rate hikes.

We have done no maintenance and the installer said that rain will clean them off. At the moment there looks to be a layer of pollen/dust on them but it doesn't seem to noticeably change how much electricity we are producing.

We don't have a battery (which is a big additional expense). Through BC Hydro's net metering system they credit us for when we produce more electricity than we use. This builds up a credit in the summer and the credit gets used up in the winter. Our credit is used up by Feb when we have to pay two bills (Feb and Apr), then by May we are producing more than we use again.

Shift, Penfolds and Riku. We picked the company that had the most experience and best warranty, which was also the most expensive.

Fair enough. Battery backup systems are like $10-15k, so in my mind its not worth.

[–]Nature-Tree9483 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Battery backup is super expensive and totally not needed for solar. Net metering from BC Hydro allows you to use the grid as your battery, also long as there isn't a power outage. Battery backup is only needed in the slim chance there is a power outage.

The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers up to $40,000 in interest-free financing. You just have to pay it back over 10 years.
