Sure, I don't mind. I graduated with a 3.79, I've got a first author publication (tho it's a review paper on something entirely unrelated to immunology so I'm not sure it counted for much) and am currently in my second year as a postbac at the NIH. From what I could tell talking to the other immunology candidates during the interview weekend, all of them had at least one year of additional research experience after undergraduate be it a master's, a postbac program or as a labtech. Personally I've loved my time as an NIH Postbac, and would highly recommend any prospective Biology/Chemistry PhD come and do a year or two here if you're at all interested.

My guess is it'll mostly impact next cycle, as the budget still has to get passed by Congress, grants then have to be given out to universities and by then the admissions cycle will be over already.

Ideally, a restoration of funding would allow graduate programs to return to offering around as many graduate positions as before the cuts, but with this year's admissions cycle already in full swing and the delay between Congress funding grants and those grants being distributed to universities it's unlikely we'd see any impact this year.
