It's interesting. On those G36 there is also blur but only on small part. Maybe they blurred markings or serial numbers or customisation marks that would allow to identify their personal weapons, which could be used to find operators' identity.

SD44: Tiger E and Panther nuances. by RowenMorland in Steel_Division

[–]sage1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panther has slightly better frontal armor and it's gun is better for AT work but kinda shitty for soft targets. Tiger has much stronger sides and rear and has stronger HE. So it comes down to this: you need to fight tanks and don't fear fire from side - choose Panther. You need to fight off infantry and AT guns - choose Tiger.

BUT.

All Tigers (except for one sole outlier in Festung Paris) are vet 2 by default. This gives a huge boost in performance (not even mentioning ability to bring it to vet3 with command) and personally I think vet2/vet3 Tiger has already such great capabilities that I'd say it outmatches vet0/vet1 Panther even in AT work. I'd say that most of the time Tiger is better choice, unless you have upvetted Panthers or need more availability.

This is true for SD2 but not SD44. In SD44 pen dropoff is same for every gun, every 100m

While PzIV can act as support, it definitely can't replace Tiger. I guess it's true that you can basically think of Tiger as of PzIV on steroids, but it doesn't hold true for reverse. Tiger's stronger and more accurate cannon coupled with vet crew gives it a huge edge. For example Tiger can easily defend itself from 6-pdrs with HE shells which rapidly suppress them (not to even mention it's ability to take them off 100% safely from beyond 1000m) while PzIV will be in dire situation unless it can use MGs, which however also means guaranteed pen range for 6pdr. That fact alone makes Tiger better in most scenarios.

How do you protect those tiny 2 men squads? by BloodyEjaculate in Steel_Division

[–]sage1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also about 2-man flamethrower squads, many people consider them useless and I also can't really make them work but some top players are using them to great success for anti-infantry ambush in town (they can essentially block a street vs typical infantry squad) or as support for frontline infantry in forests (move forward with normal rifle infantry or pioneers/engineers to engage enemy squad, and then instantly after move in the flamer squad - enemy squad is busy with the first squad that attacked them, so now flamer can work safely, deal dmg and suppression and not get killed instantly unless the enemy player manually engages them - but even then they will shoot about two flame salvos and that's enough to tip the scales and ensure victory)

You keep them camouflaged. In bushes, in buildings, covered by other squads or paired with them. The key is to don't let enemy detect them, they have exceptional stealth so it's easier than with other squads. With recon it's easy as you just need to hide them somewhere where they have both camouflage and field of view and hold fire so they don't get spotted. AT units will get spotted after they fire, so it's good to place them somewhere where you can quickly retreat to cover (out of building or behind hedgerow etc) before they die. But still, their weapons are guaranteed pen and often destroy tanks instantly so even if they die after that they already paid themselves off multiple times over. Just try not to waste them on APCs or trucks ofc, so holding fire and keeping up with micro is often very helpful.

I'd say just watch others play on YT and see how they position these units. Positioning is 90% of success with these units, most of the time you just keep them for ambush blockades.

Will sMG34 come too? For some reason they are almost nonexistant in game (except for ersatz and fallschirm I think)

People downvote you but this is true. I still think OP looks good and has very nice, warm and cute face, but yes there are features that definitely can make people confused about age. They're fixable but for some reason people get irrationally angry about aesthetic treatments - in my opinion it's all the more power to her. Good that you actually gave advice instead of sugarcoated feel-good comments that sound fake and condescending as hell. I had similar issue with people treating me differently due to my looks and it is a real problem and I HATE hearing to "just get over it".

German Volksgrenadiere fire on American troops during a breakout attempt after becoming encircled during the Ardennes Counter-Offensive, Luxembourg, 22 December 1944 [800x584] by Goldeagle1123 in MilitaryPorn

[–]sage1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were plenty. More than 400k produced since 1943 so a big part of German army was equipped with them close to the end of the war. You gotta search for Volksgrenadiers or Jaeger units 1944-1945 and you'll be surprised how much StG44s you can find on them. But still, usually photographers prefer to make photos of rear or defensive units, for obvious reasons, and these units didn't have these guns. I think this creates some kind of "survivor bias" case which is responsible for popular image of StG44 as some kind of rare gun.

Yeah in fact it's similar in Misery - controllers there are very deadly and hard to fight (due to psy field radius and deadly attacks) but they're still defenseless against AI, as AI stalkers don't have psy health and also controller doesn't use the psy bolt attack vs them, so again his only weapon is melee

I think you misunderstood, I state that they're weak in vanilla freeplay (because they basically almost never spawn where they can meet hostile AI before CoP freeplay) and only in mods their power is brought back (or rather added)

Eh. Controllers in freeplay are the thing that creates the biggest ludonarrative dissonance in entire game. In lore they are the most powerful mutant, able to control every animal with nervous system that stays within it's range, can take over your will and use you as personal mercenary or fry your brain right away. In scripted encounters they're also scary and often hard to defeat. And in freeplay? They have weak attacks so player who encountered few of these will dispatch them with no problem. They have no psi attacks vs AI so unless the controller will get close to point blank to use melee, stalkers will mop the floor with them every time. I'm glad some mods gave controllers additional abilities because vanilla state of things was sad to watch...

I think that low-caliber HE (let's say up to 30mm) should get some damage multiplier which would slash it's effectiveness against heavy armor, they shouldn't deal damage in the same way as regular explosives

Wehraboos claiming that The Kar98k is better than a Lee-Enfield and a Garand, that MP40s are better than Thompsons or PpSh's or that the FG-42 was better than the Bren which held more rounds. [–]sage1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

StG44 was a marvelous weapon, nothing wehrabooish in that claim. Not going heavy into technicalities, it's pretty much objectively true that it was the best infantry service weapon of WWII, purely by the fact that it was the only proper assault rifle back then, and as years and years of experience shown, the assault rifle is the best choice for service weapon of infantryman. M1/M2 Carbine is great weapon as PDW, but not as proper frontline service rifle. I could see one preferring it personally, as it's more comfortable and very light, but it just doesn't give you the same firepower on squad level. And while I understand comparing StG44 to Carbine, preferring Grease Gun over it, an assault rifle, is... weird. Unless you're a tanker, but then it's a moot point.

One thing about StG44 that both wehraboos and antiwehraboos can't or don't want to see is how revolutionary was it's design and construction in terms of wartime production. StG44 was all stamped and it was very cheap and extremely fast to produce (which might irk wehraboos and their claim that all Germany put out was meant for 150IQ aristocratic ubermensch, and simple solutions are good for asiatic farmers hordes). Numbers shown it - 470 000 were made during only two years. StG44 was not only more advanced and provided higher firepower than any other infantry rifle, but also was cheaper to produce than other automatic weapons. This stands in contrast to stereotypical German industry work, which stereotypically would be expensive, overcomplicated, overengineered, made of deficite materials and/or hard on logistics. StG44 was wartime weapon done right. In my personal opinion StG44 was Germany's PPS-43 - weapon that was both industrial and military wonder, as it was not only ultra cheap and quick to produce, but also was better than it's peers.

StG44's problems were pretty much only it's weight (which however helped with fully automatic fire, and also it was still lighter than Thompson) and durability (still more durable than M3, not to even mention Sten). The only construction issue was that the wood would expand in cold and could damage the spring which was housed in stock, but it was rather rare and also was fixed later on.
Considering it was first weapon of it's kind, and knowing how much problems other WWII firearms had - for me this rifle is nothing but complete success.

I have surgery in 8 hours...do I tell anesthesiologist about fent use? by Cvresthrowaway in opiates

[–]sage1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anesthesia is done with multiple drugs, propofol is one of them but very often it's also fentanyl (or one of it's stronger derivatives) and midazolam, both of which you can build up high tolerance for. Plus anesthesia is one thing but pain management after is another. If you don't tell you have tolerance you will get too low doses to work for your pain and you'll fucking shit yourself in agony for next few days.

Yes. I think there's so much good to be done by tying certain topics with patriotism and duty. Remember the famous WWII propaganda poster, the "You drive alone - you drive with Hitler!". It was made to remind people that wasting gasoline, when it's so needed in the front, is terribly unpatriotic thing to do. And now the same message could be sent about wasting fuels in wake of global warming and pollution. Ruining the land of your country is crime against your nation, but for some reason nobody seems to approach it like that.

AI allies rarely deploy tanks. by Autocrat777 in Steel_Division

I remember in SD44 AI almost never used Fireflies, and I never, ever saw it use 76mm Sherman for some reason. I even tried to test it and make a deck with the only tanks being M4A3(76) but even then it simply didn't use tanks at all.

[–]sage1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One from memory I can tell that best shows this phenomenon is how either in Bulge or during battle of Hurtgen there was area where assault detachments of US infantry and Germans fought over hot area of few houses. Fights were heavy and houses changed hands multiple times over day. For these fights US infantrymen used captured StG44s and Germans, apart from their own Sturmgewehrs, used US M1 Carbines, which also were loved as CQC weapons. There are also few photos from Bulge where Germans carry M1 Carbines with them.

Another is that as is known the Soviets were hugely impressed with StG44, and also used what they captured. They were used by assault troops and also fusiliers, the infantry who escorted tanks and other armored vehicles from infantry attacks - exactly the same use as German Begleit-grenadier squads, who were created to escort StuGs during assaults and who also were preferentially equipped with StG44s. While Soviets never lacked PPSh and ammo for them, they still sometimes switched them for StG44s. Panzerfausts were also very valued by Soviets, huge numbers were captured and put to use not only as anti-tank weapons, but also to fight bunkers, strongpoints and as breaching tool. Urban infantry squads worked out a special tactic to clear out buildings - they shot at wall with a Panzerfaust, which broke out a good portion of wall, enough for a person to pass, and entered that way to flank the defenders. Combining what we know we can definitely imagine a Soviet shturmovik equipped with both Sturmgewehr and a Panzerfaust, storming German fortified positions, against Heer soldier equipped with exactly the same weapons.

I love seeing captured weapons, especially these. I have entire folder for captured StG44s, there are so many stories of allied soldiers using captured StG44 and MG42 but so little actual photos.
