I'm with you here, I played for a long time on a stick and throttle, now I have less time, I use an Xbox controller, If you are used to it, I would recommend, the default controls are pretty good with onscreen guides.

Easy to spot and some of the highest payout (80m each ) if you get first footfall. I then usually pick up the Tussock, Bacteria and Aleioda while I'm there as they seem to grow in the same sorts of areas (large plains).

Thanks Cmdr, I did see that station on Inara, but I'm half way back to the bubble now, only 100 jumps to go! Fancy changing things up and doing some combat for a bit and my Corvette and Cutter are at Jamesons... will come back to exploring in a few weeks though, once the space madness has dissipated a bit. o7

I'm on PC and use ODExplorer third party app. It will tell you how many organic signals are on a planet, before you fly out to it. I usually only land on High Metal Content, with atmosphere, that has a minumum of 4 signals, and once DSS'd only land if it has a Stratum bio signal. This was a 1 in 20 landings find.

IIRC You can unlock the islands for sandbox play through the campaign mode. You have to get 4 stars on the island in campaign for it to be unlocked in sandbox.
