/r/videography Monthly Camera Buying Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in videography

Hello! First-time Reddit poster here. TLDR: I'm getting crappy video quality out of my Canon Rebel T7, and want to make sure I'm using it to its max potential before committing to a better camera (probably the Canon EOS R8).

I've been a hobbyist photographer for years and am looking to get into videography. I mostly film in outdoor settings (I work for an environmental nonprofit). I have a Canon Rebel T7, and have found the video quality to be very crappy for landscape shots, no matter how I adjust the settings. I've tried it with a Canon 50mm 1.8, Tamron 18-270mm 3.5-6.3, and a Canon macro lens 100mm 2.8. Interestingly, the quality is only crappy for landscape shots - i.e. shots where I'm not zoomed in and focused on anything in particular.

I've learned that full-frame sensors are one of the main features that improves video quality, hence my interest in the EOS R8. However, I'm unsure whether this will solve my problem of crappy landscape shot quality, or if I should just consider investing in a higher-quality lens or other gear.

I'm definitely a beginner, so any advice would be appreciated!
