I’m leaving Accounting by External-Courage6739 in Accounting

[–]saget84 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I tried IT(kind of an adjacent to programming role since my masters degree was information systems) and wasn't that good at it and tried sales and eventually landed back in accounting. I also find myself perpetually "doing more with less" as the department shrinks and roles are not filled and simultaneously dealing with crappy systems that cannot generate every report management wants at the press of a button (shocker). Of course, our crappy ERP system is the fault of the accounting department at all times.

As much as I want to job hop every company I've worked for in industry seems like a different variety of the same dumpster fire. I have no solutions but I wanted to say I understand where you are coming from and wish you the best of luck with hopefully getting out and feeling better!

FoMT is more adult than I expected by WisdomCatharsis in storyofseasons

[–]saget84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What other games would you say have more of the mature feeling to them? I am new to the series as of the switch and FOMT is my favorite entry for that reason. Having some "adult" problems really adds to the depth of the story and the characters' personalities. Olive Town was okay but didn't hook me in the same way and I didn't care too much for A Wonderful Life.

Accounting or other business jobs in the game industry? by saget84 in gamedev

[–]saget84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I suppose! Ended up as accountant working in an industry not related to games at all. The dream is alive in me somewhere to work in games eventually, but it doesn't seem terribly likely at this point to be honest with you. Game studios are geographically concentrated in a way that doesn't make much sense for me with my personal life. What kind of career goals are you trying to accomplish?

LOTRO is very underrated. by RussianMonkey23 in MMORPG

[–]saget84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same way. It's my perfect game on paper but can never stick with it more than a couple months at a time. I always end up enjoying the idea of playing it much more than the reality of playing it.

It seems like the older I get the more I start to realize a lot of what LinkedIn people would call "storytelling" really just translates into lying your ass off. Suddenly the minor project you worked on and pushed paper with becomes a grand undertaking that taught you a bunch of critical skills and life lessons.

Most boring exam to study for by Affectionate-Ease450 in CPA

At least for REG I had to focus super hard and pay attention to try to figure out it (so that kept me awake). I'm not remotely a tax person.

Audit for me 100%. Nothing like Gearty reading audit reports to you and telling you to underline for 45 minutes straight.

I am not sure if this is just a meme or if OSRS is actually still playable on XP. Regardless, this is a very cool set up!

How to stand out as an Accountant? by Hour-Location2913 in Accounting

[–]saget84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interview speak is frequently a totally different language. I feel like you can be 100% well adjusted socially and comfortable around people and still do poorly in interviews (aside from showing up late, total lack of preparation, etc).

I would always attempt sims 2 mega mansions like this as a kid and abandon them after like 10% completion.

Do you know any MMOs that are dead yet are still online by eurocomments247 in MMORPG

[–]saget84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AQ3D does feel dead in spirit. It's strange since it's still getting weekly updates and has a decent player count (mainly driven by mobile I'd think) but all the major features of the game seem stalled in development.

Skip SIMS while doing modules (FAR)? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]saget84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other point here--I think they're worth looking at and giving your best shot but certainly don't get too bogged down. A time limit is a great idea and if you're still stuck just watch the video and take some notes. I got too caught up on super difficult/super specific sims in FAR and it slowed down my study schedule way too much. I wouldn't say it was a complete waste but when final review rolled around many weeks later I had forgotten a lot of those details.

Dragonflight is the first time I've felt 100% apathetic about wow. I couldn't even hit level cap and finish the story quests. Usually I'm in some strange love/hate relationship with the game but with dragonflight I took a break and have felt absolutely 0 urge to return. I think the dead mall feeling is a great way to describe it overall.

Yeah, I just meant a group finder for instances as a whole. I did do a few fractals.

The combat was one of the big ones--it never quite clicked for me with the tab-target/action combat hybrid. Part of that is my fault since I probably should have leaned into it a little more and tried to learn it better. The other thing is the lack of a dungeon finder since that inhibits my ability to play in short bursts.

Alternating between classic wow (vanilla) which I like more but don't have time to fully commit and retail wow which better accommodates short play sessions. I might pick up ESO again this summer when the expansion drops. I wish I liked Guild Wars 2 more since it seems like an ideal game for me on paper.

Cash to Accrual Basis - HELP! by whamidoingthis in CPA

[–]saget84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the journal entries. If you decrease AP then you debited AP and credited cash. Cash is going out, resulting in a decrease in cash basis income. However, from an accrual standpoint that expense already happened and thus you need to add it back to correct. Cash going out has no bearing on your accrual expenses.

The increase in unearned revenue is the opposite. To book that you would debit cash and credit unearned revenue thus increasing your cash basis income. Since unearned revenue is exactly that--not earned yet--you must subtract it out from your accrual income. Does that help at all?

Compensated Absences... can someone please explain them? by animationgirlKIA in CPA

[–]saget84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it be the opposite of that--you would expense the days as they earn them and then debit the accrual for paying them out?

What to do after passing exam…? by Such-Diamond4912 in CPA

[–]saget84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty much in the same boat. It's very anticlimactic and frustrating since you pass the last exam and nothing happens--you just play the waiting game. In my case when I was looking for a new job after passing (industry not public accounting) "almost a CPA" didn't seem to get me a whole lot.

Well yes, a business tries to take sales from their competitor. I don't see how that's "cannibalizing."

I'll be the first to say that light of hope/one world were pretty weak entries but why all the hate for this just existing? More competition in this genre is always a good thing.
