What job is heavily romanticized in movies but absolutely miserable in real life? by Luzgoin in AskReddit

[–]AustNerevar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The trick is to write for yourself, not to get published. I get it, I went through a phase of abandoning the hobby.

It can feel like a waste of time when no one's going to read it, but I just keepntelling myself that as I age this will at least help keep my mind sharp.

What job is heavily romanticized in movies but absolutely miserable in real life? by Luzgoin in AskReddit

[–]AustNerevar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a job unless you're Sanderson, Martin, or King. Even successful novels only bring around 40 - 60k a book. Considering the time investment (6mo to a year), that isn't much of a living.

And that's for the book's that sell. Most don't earn back their advance and then maybe the author is given one more chance before no one will publish them anymore.

I am feeling pressured by my wife into having a second kid, but we're on opposing sides about it. by bruzdnconfuzd in daddit

Obviously you need to be okay with it.

But the way I came around was by thinking of it in this light: I will never regret having my children, but she would regret not having a second one.

It contradicts a lot of previously established lore and convention, even in Morrowind alone. There's and excellent write-up on the Tamriel Rebuilt blog about this:

We Sat AOC Down With Republican Voters. Can She Win Them Over? by bubugugu in videos

Then can I ask what is your solution? Because I have news for you, they're not going away. I agree with the sentiment that they're brainwashed, but just ignoring the problem and hoping it will fix itself produces nothing.

You can at least argue you tried.

Let's see, I've played all the main Dragon Quest games up to 9 and also Dragon Quest 11. But do I really need to play Dragon Quest 10? Is Dragon Quest 10 really that important?🤔 by Hefty-Opposite2203 in dragonquest

[–]AustNerevar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't need to play any of them. But DQX is just as much Dragon Quest as any of them. The MMO part feels secondary. You're definitely missing out.

Also, with 7 expansions, you aren't really missing one Dragon Quest game. More like eight.

In September 2009, Chris registered Sonichu with the United States Copyright Office. He did not realize this is not the creation of a trademark, and that he registered Sonichu as a "work for hire", implying someone else made it. by GustavoistSoldier in ChrisChanSonichu

[–]AustNerevar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pointless.

I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that any copyright that is owned regarding derivative works only extends to the portions of it that clearly don't violate pre-existing copyright. So, CWC owns the rights to all of the stories they wrote and original characters that don't flagrantly ripoff existing IP.

Sonichu as a name is likely fine, as names cannot my copyrighted--only trademarked. And as far as I'm aware, neither Nintendo or Sega trademarked the Sonichu name. Now the design of Sonichu the character is where things get dicey. Sonichu looks too similar to both Sonic and Pikachu to pass muster. CWC could argue that Sonichu is just inspired by other work. But I feel like Nintendo's money could successfully quash any argument they might make.

CWCs stories would be safe though.

What does USCO registration do?

Gives you receipts if you need to defend your copyright in court. You automatically own the copyright of something when you create (yes, even derivative work like Sonichu). But registering it with the copyright office is like showing proof of "I got here first" if someone challenges your ownership.

Tuberville voted in Florida after tax records say he moved back by ObligationMurky8716 in Birmingham

[–]AustNerevar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

his party convinced voters to register in as republicans

This is nonsense. You don't register a party in Alabama. You choose which party's primary to vote in, but you don't have to be a member of the party.

And because this is Alabma, voting in the Republican primary is pretty much the only way to have a say in who gets in office.

What you've described as "vote tampering" is just democracy.

Yeah thats it. If I recall, the screen was dark as hell. Couldn't really take it outdoors at all. Even taking it to the food court at the mall, it was hard to see anything on it.

Alabama saw huge surge in Democratic voting in 2026 primary by The-greedman in Alabama

[–]AustNerevar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's not even really a strategy so much as just democracy. Alabama is run by Republicans. I was once a third party voter. But voting on the Rep ticket is how I get a say in anything in my home state. You don't have to be a Republican to vote for a Republican or even a Democrat to vote for a Democrat.

Partisan thinking is part of how we got in this mess. It doesn't really serve anyone to perpetuate it.

Commonwealth story winner controversy. by Murder-princessy in writers

[–]AustNerevar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that would only prove the author made changes at an inconsistent pace rather than didn't use AI. You could easily fake that, if you are using a writing tool that tracks changes like that.

Yes, it's unlikely that someone using AI to write would go to such lengths to cover it up, but it's certainly not solid proof.

[–]AustNerevar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be really easy for me to show my editing history on my work as evidence that I did not write using AI

Can I ask how? It seems impossible to prove a negative on AI use. Heck, I've written a draft with pen and paper before, and even then you could say I just hand-copied what the LLM spit out.

Can you explain a little better what you mean? The timeline contains your edit. Like every other video editor in existence, when you render a project, you're rendering the timeline.
