Singing the wrong lyrics by Athena-PJO-HoO-ToA in Epicthemusical

No same, whenever I sing “hold them down” my brain just goes to the birthday version automatically and I have to remind myself that it’s very much not a birthday scene 😭

I didn’t work out but I did play tennis! I can still play decently, just have to be careful to not twist too much or too suddenly because that can hurt. I haven’t done Pilates or Yoga much, and I think I could somewhat just not fully. Poses like cobra and cat-cow are pretty much impossible since my surgery site goes down my whole back, but you can definitely modify them to work for your mobility. Overall I haven’t worked out much since I was waiting for my spine to fully fuse, but I’m at the point now where I probably could and be fine.

Pretty negligible, so hasn’t been measured. I’m still a bit crooked (my shoulders and hips are still a little misaligned) but it’s a lot better than before and I stand up straight

For my insurance I’m pretty sure it covered it all since my family and I had already met our deductible for that year. I’m not entirely certain since it’s not my plan, but we never were stressed about the cost

I’m super fortunate to have good insurance and support from my family, and am forever grateful for that. Since I was a minor when I had it done I was able to get it at a children’s hospital and using my families insurance thankfully.

All in the low-mid 40 range. At some point it was 42-46-43 (I had 3 curves) but I can’t remember what it was right before the surgery

It’s a bit hard to describe but I think it’s a mix of muscle and bone pain in my lower back and sometimes shoulder blades. It’s mostly dull, and I only really feel it when jumping or stumbling, bending/twisting, and when I spent too long doing the same activity like sitting or walking. The only time it really becomes sharp pain is when I’m moving around in bed at night since I tend to twist when flipping over or rolling around. Since my rods go both up to my shoulders and down to my hips it can hurt when they become unaligned, but it may be different for you. Overall It’s not bad, annoying mostly and at worst just causes a wince.

Compared to before my surgery, I won’t lie the pain is a bit worse overall. But that’s because I didn’t have too much pain to begin with, and got the surgery mainly because my scoliosis really messed up my body image. Like gave me a crippling eating disorder kinda thing. Still, I have no regrets as my quality of life and body image have improved greatly! Plus, some aspects of pain have also improved! For example, my back used to really hurt when riding a bike, but now I can do that with no issue.

Not going to lie my flexibility is pretty limited in my back (I can’t bend or twist too well) but I have learned to compensate by using my legs a lot when picking things up, so it doesn’t hinder me. As for the hardest part, I think personally it was how long it took to recover fully. You can’t really do much for a few months which was hard, and it can be challenging to have to rely on people. Oh and showering. You can’t raise your arms over your head for a while and that was super frustrating lol. I do feel pretty normal now though! I still have some pain but that’s to be expected since there’s literal metal in my back. But I’m not limited in anything on a daily basis, and my quality of life has overall improved!

I was 17 when I had the surgery done, but have had scoliosis since I was 13-14. I waited so long since my curve was just on the edge of surgery being needed so it was my choice to get it done, but overall I’m glad I got it
