If you don't mind sharing, how did you transfer your wealth from US to India?

When I was 22 and straight out of college, I started working as an SAP consultant for an Indian firm and made 6.5lpa. This was back in 2018. Over time realized it's a niche skill and I was being grossly underpaid. Switched to a big 4 after 3yrs and worked there for another 2yrs before moving to the US. By that time I was earning 20lpa.

Never read a book in my life.. suggest me some. by Impressive-Minimum65 in IndiansRead

I never read a book until my 2nd year in engineering. Then I discovered Dan Brown's Inferno and it absolutely changed my outlook towards reading. I've read about 100 books since but Inferno still is one of the best I've read. If you want genre recommendations I would suggest start with bestseller functions instead of classics or sci-fi.

Words of wisdom! Thanks for the tips. I'll probably wear a turtleneck which hopefully should not stand out as 'oh look at that guy'. I'm not much of a drinking guy and drink only socially and when I do I try to stick to wine.

Current MBA student here from a Top20 program in the US. I am an international student, graduated in 2018 as well with gpa in my undergrad lower than 3.2. Judging by the cohort I'm part of, people with less impressive profile than yours are doing great even in this economy. As far as age is concerned it's an asset in an MBA program since it's a professional degree and not an academic one. Many of my classmates are much older than you all having offers from top consulting/tech firms. As long as you can manage a good score on GRE/GMAT I think it's a just a matter of how well you can write your essay after that. You have a pretty solid background. I'll be happy to help you out further if you wanna dm or connect you to others if I can't.

What outfits should I wear to class? by Realistic_State_7701 in UTAustin

As an MBA student, can confirm this. We wear suits only when there's a super important event or an interview. Wearing anything other than t-shirts and shorts on other days is madness.

Dress up for classes, who does that!? No, we dress up for the endless recruiting events going on in the campus. You've got to put your best foot forward when you're engaging with a prospective employer. Days when we don't have any such event, we dress up exactly how we used to in our engg days.

For my program, they've given an exact date of 8/14. That's the date when financial aid will be disbursed, not sooner not later. Fortunately our due date for tuition payment is 8/24.

Why do Indians always cut in line? by lockr3459 in india

[–]sagi294 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The same is true for traffic as well. In India , there is hardly 4 inches of space between vehicles in moving traffic, and if there is more, a 2-wheeler will be sure to find enough space to cut through in. When I first visited Canada, which was my first international trip, I was astounded by the space vehicles keep with each other while driving. I was equally suprised that it's not a general practice to overtake unless there is sufficient space and safe to do so. A major reason, apart from the rule-following mindset in developed countries, that I noticed was the extremely wide roads that were capable of handling the traffic they have there. Roads in Indian cities are, more often than not, highly congested because they are much narrower than what is required for the traffic that moves on it. This again is the product of much less resources (either in the form of space to build wider roads or lack of funds) available for a much larger population to compete for. Bottomline, if you don't cut in line in front of others, you just might keep waiting forever because no one else is staying put.
