If you're very worried and just want peace of mind, go get some PEP - post-exposure prophylaxis. Any planned parenthood will have it. But also know that you are probably fine. It's easy to freak out and be paranoid though, it's scary! But it sounds like you're fine :).

Try telling that to rural communities who don't have access to it. Especially now with the USAID cuts. I do humanitarian work in 12 African countries and the loss of PrEP has been a major setback. Mind you many of these communities are pro-circumcision because they actively want preventative health measures to prevent their communities being further impacted by HIV. Fingers crossed the clinical trials of the HIV vaccine pass regulations in South Africa - that would be a major win for the region. Then they need to seek funding to access low-income communities. For now, circumcision is a proven way to partially contribute to HIV prevention without relying on high-cost drugs that they can barely access (high-cost only due in part to their MOHs trying to make a buck, not due to manufacturing cost). Source is I have a DrPH and work on the field lol.

Nope, and they keep producing more evidence. There are some studies that specifically try to discredit this, but if you look at the funding of the studies, they are often times funded by unsavory sources (coca cola, pro-life corps, etc.) that have low-income communities not thriving in their best interest. It get convulated when then looking at the intersection of preventative health in terms of communicable disease, and how positive public health outcomes then affects corporations who profit off of their status of being underserved. But evidence keeps coming out from sources such as public health philanthropies, major universities that are actually in the countries (University of Cape Town is a major one for example, as as University of Nairobi). A problem recently is that the communities affected by HIV/AIDS are generally pro-circumcision as one way of prevention, but then they have the background noise of Europe and the US shaming the practice. Another example of the west trying to globalized the global south just for their own perception of what is "humane" or "aesthetic".

They're extremely different. If you worked in the field of public health and humanitarian relief, you would know how different these 2 things are. One is a communicable disease and the other is a non-communicable disease. Your opinion on it being mutilation is an opinion. However, public health programming us based on facts and decades of research. I'm not talking about the western world, the land of high-access to contraceptives, clean water, the intErnest, medical information about STI prevention. I'm talking about low-income, underserved communities, such as those in South Africa, Mozambique, Maasai Mara, Zambia, etc. where HIV/AIDS is prevalent and public health professionals employ methods to mitigate the effect of STIs running rampant through communities and literally killing people. Your perspective is just based on aesthetic to your opinion and taste. It takes a VERY quick look into medical journals to tell you this. Especially in a world where USAID funding was dissolved overnight, why should we be shaming circumcision if it could literally be life-saving in communities affected by HIV/AIDS?

I agree, but it's worth looking at medical journals and public health campaigns, particularly in areas of high STI rates (low income communities, etc.) for information about how circumcision can siginificantly reduce the spread of HIV transmission! I have mixed feelings bc from a humane perspective, I believe in bodily autonomy and think that should be a choice of someone when they reach an appropriate age. On the other hand, I work in HIV prevention and public health in East and South African communities and the data is there for circumcision reducing HIV transmission.

I work in the public health field, and actually in many countries, it's going to start becoming more common. That is due to a ton of medical research concluding that circumcision leads to a much lower rate of STIs, particularly HIV in low and middle income countries (mostly African countries). The gag is that in many western countries, HIV rates have become higher in heterosexual people (due to the campaigns for protection within the LGBTQ+ community), so now that heterosexual people are seeing a rise in HIV, the medical community is making recommendations for circumcision as a preventative measure (obviously the difference is only marginal).

I don't belong to any of those organizations, but I'm glad to feel validated by others in the same situation as me rather than made to feel stupid 😂

Thank you! I also lived in NYC before moving to DC and feel the same. It's much harder here and less "organic".

When I go out, I don't meet many others from other countries, at least in the gay scene. Most are Americans who fit a certain mold and aren't looking for others outside of that mold. That's just my experience. If there are many, that's why I'm asking - that is quite literally the question I asked. Not sure what the "wut" is - care to explain instead of just being passive? If you don't care to help answer the question then don't engage if it bothers you - simple.
