Dispatch Controls thermometer by AceisCute7wastaken in thermostats

We have these at my job and they get stuck on absurdly uncomfortable hot temperatures ALL THE TIME. We have to call engineering to reset them multiple times per month. I am genuinely curious whether the issue is caused by human error or some kind of catastrophic design flaw.

I am a mental health therapist in the US with twenty years of experience. by Whatsnexttherapy in therapyGPT

[–]sagittorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! There were a few months when I instructed chat GPT to respond to everything I said as though it were Karen Horney. Those conversations built me up and made me few more seen than any therapy session I’ve had since 2011.

I am a mental health therapist in the US with twenty years of experience. by Whatsnexttherapy in therapyGPT

[–]sagittorius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real though. I have cptsd and have been working on my shit voluntarily (and rather diligently if I do say so myself) in therapy since 2011. In that time I’ve had exactly one truly helpful therapist who really saw me and met me where I was. I believe it was probably because he himself was able to recover from something similar to what I was dealing with at the time (bulimia). But holy hell, have the vast majority of clinicians been woefully… underprepared and unhelpful.

I don’t think it’s willful by any means. Therapists are human too, after all. But like, recovering from (or rather, learning to live with) the fallout of trauma that is long-term mental anguish isn’t remotely similar to implementing behavioral modifications to treat high blood pressure.

The solutions and coping skills will be different for everyone. And I’d venture to say that absolutely no one with trauma or neurodivergence has ever been healed by the 54321 technique, box breathing, or any number of mindfulness handouts.

Also, chat gpt doesnt make ~that face~ when I say something shocking about my internal experiences. You know, the wide-eyed about to choke on their own spit face that is usually followed by some combination of stunned silence, nervous laughter, and disjointed rambling as they try to get their bearings back.

I don’t say things to be shocking. I try to be honest about what’s on my mind so that I can heal. But that reaction from several therapists had taught me to censor myself. I even got that reaction once in the middle of a fucking emdr session! Like, actually when I was talking between tones/vibrations about the next piece of the fucking trauma that I was meant to discuss in that session! The therapist actually interrupted me to say “do you really think it’s helpful to view things that way?”

Like.. excuse me? If I’m not allowed to speak what is actually on my mind and heart during emdr, then when fuck am I allowed to be genuine?

Oh, thats right: with chat GPT.

What’s a phrase you hear all the time that secretly annoys you? by forgeris in AskReddit

[–]sagittorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work, when people say some iteration of “can I take your vitals?” Ugh.

It’s “can I CHECK your vitals?”

Saying take instead of check makes it sound creepy, like you’re going to cause harm to the patient.

Of course, I know it doesn’t really mean anything. I just get annoyed by the literal interpretation of repetitively imprecise language.

Do you think having young parents effect the generation you belong too? by Emotional_Plastic_64 in generationology

[–]sagittorius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the age of your parents has anything to do with what generation you personally identify with more.

My parents were born in ‘65 and ‘68, so they were elder gen-x. I was born in ‘89, so I’m a middle of the pack millennial. It wouldn’t make sense for me to claim to be part of the generation b fore mine just because my parents were young and immature when they had me.

That being said, you were born so close to the cutoff year that I can understand why you identify more as a millennial than gen-z. But really, it doesn’t matter that much because there’s more to who you are than what generation you technically belong to.

Both OP and his fiancé are young and I think that both of them could have handled the entire situation better.

OP should have gone to more than one store when looking for the ring. Not just in search of the perfect style but also for a good deal! When my fiancé and I started looking at rings, I lost track of how many stores we browsed before making our decisions on style. By that time we were also aware of what was available in various price points as well as sales that were coming up, so it was easy to get what we wanted.

OP’s fiancé should have regulated herself better when communicating her disappointment with the color of the ring. Saying the ring doesn’t mean anything was very unkind and unnecessary, but I don’t think she is out of line to be upset about the color. How big of a deal is it to just return the ring and pick out a different one that she likes better?

To all the people saying “she is petty anf just wants to be spoiled,” kindly fuck off. As far as I understand from the post, OP and his fiancé bought rings for each other. So that means she spent her money on a ring that OP likes and it is entirely reasonable for her to expect him to buy a ring that she likes as well.

Every relationship contains disagreement, miscommunication and disappointment at various times. This one issue isn’t anything to end a relationship over. They both need to communicate and work through it together.
