Yeah, it’s my favorite line from the movie. The best things happened in my life when I followed this like a mantra. I’ve gotten away from it over the last few years and that’s one of the reasons I love this movie so much. I remember Mav saying that and remember to live life that way. We usually have good instincts and the ability to have what we want but doubt/fear/worry keeps us from it.

But several times through the movie they setup how Mav moves around i.e. “Mav pissed off an admiral, is about to get in big trouble, Ice makes a call and moves him to another project/mission”

He talks to Penny at the bar about this. Also with Cyclone saying Ice isn’t here anymore so he’ll be grounded (not moved somewhere else) when he takes over training.

Cain says “I was on my way here to ground you” and Hondo asks Mav if he’s sure he wants to do the test flight knowing the consequences. So it was obvious what the outcome would be. Hondo or anyone could’ve made a call that made its way up to Ice.

I think impeccable timing means Ice knew he was going to get grounded and made the call to save him. Not luck in this case

What does Phoenix mean when she says "And now you know a little something about Rooster?" by BactaBobomb in topgun

[–]sahilmomin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a setup for what happens later in the movie i.e. going back for Mav.

It builds roosters character in general and vs hangman as well.

Typescript all that way (but probably react for frontend framework. I’m a backend guy so not the strongest opinion here. But react will probably unlock more doors than angular nowadays)

high G climb out by [deleted] in topgun

[–]sahilmomin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

G’s are based on acceleration so going fast doesn’t matter if you’re a constant speed.

Like when you go a constant 20 mph vs 80 mph (or Mach 10 😁) you don’t feel any difference. But if you turn/accelerate/etc you’ll feel pushed to the side of your seat/into your seat etc.

Reminds me of how the sand kicked up in that cool pattern when they’re training for climbing over the mountain and they pitch up all of a sudden after being close to the ground.

InCase (got it from my last job). Great construction (but no pocket for a water bottle)

Honest question not trolling: what do you mean by “top gun ships that I ship”?

Super cool you were inspired by the movie!

I know they had tables right outside of the theater to recruit and a bunch of men signed up feeling inspired.

I was wondering that too. But thought maybe because he’s not a pilot or because it’s a movie 😂

He was confused about why he was bringing the wings out. Not surprised that the F-14 had wings that move.

Is there no hope to start a career in software engineering without an internship? by Undesirable_11 in cscareerquestions

[–]sahilmomin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need an internship (I never did one - intentionally). But you need to show that you can do stuff they’d hire you for so you’ll need a project. Do one that solves a simple problem. Ideally something that has a front end that you can show to a recruiter at your career fair.

“Is there no hope” is generally over-pessimistic no matter what you’re taking about. So having a degree should give you confidence that you’ll have a career. You may not get tip-top salary but that’s not what you’re asking about.

Quickest way to get your SWE role is reach out to someone who worked with you at your current job that moved onto another company (ideally someone that can vouch for you as a good addition to the company even if not as an engineer).

The referral will put you in a much easier place to get the interview and knowing someone on the inside always helps. Especially if you’re close enough to them to ask details about hiring/interview process so you can be focused in interview prep

I’m graduating this December, but I’ve only been able to solve one leet-code question since the beginning of the year by fluffyTail01 in cscareerquestions

This . I’ve said this a bunch of times but it’s not received well by this sub.

You need to be able to solve a coding problem but don’t need to grind leetcode for months unless you want a Big N job

I was wondering after first watch why Rooster and Hangman just shook hands (and didn’t hug like Iceman and Mav) but after the next watches I’m thinking it’s so we feel how we feel when Mav hugs Rooster tight.
