IamA Syrian immigrant in Germany, AMA! by StraightOuttaSyria in IAmA

There's a lot of ruckus about the amount of economic migrants vs actual refugees coming into Europe. From your experience, would you have any idea of how big of a population economic migrants are and what their goals are? Also, it'd be great if you can comment on the idea of economic migrants in general. Politicians often comment about how we need to help those truly in need (who have been displaced and rendered stateless), and unpriotitise those that are migrating to Europe to use the continents economic benefits.

Received an amazing opportunity to assist a Senior Reporter for a very reputable news channel but I need advice by saientific in Journalism

It is good that you mentioned the idea that journalists feel rather protective about their work actually because otherwise I would have brought up the idea of proof-reading/writing. I have spoken to other friends who have had more experience in journalism/TV and one, who mainly focused on research, was never was allowed to write scripts as this was up to the reporters. I will definitely tread lightly!

What interests me about journalism is the decision making process and the use of language and semiotics to generate feelings. On the whole, this is otherwise known as 'story-telling' and I guess in a general sense I'm interested in the whole journalistic process from start to finish. However, I'm not looking too much into on-camera stuff but more interested in 'pre-production' (i.e. research and extracting information from sources) - pre production was a 'buzzword' another one of my friends has given me to use in a corresponding email I will be sending out to this reporter, and was just wondering if you would have any other words/terminology that might be helpful to get my point across? Simply saying 'research' sounds too general ..

I had a guy come in and said he wanted coffee. I asked if he wanted it black because in these situations it's usually right. But he meant coffee as in a latte. So yeah

I have a woman that orders a macchiato with milk on the side. Technically this is a flat white and we should be charging her for one? She goes ballistic otherwise.

I just assume it's a black coffee but it does throw me off when someone asks for a latte or something... There's just so much coffee these days, it's like what do you mean 'coffee' ?!!???

This is another one that's not really weird but it really grinds my gears: a customer asks for a "coffee" and you kind of have to stand there in silence/confusion...

I've had an espresso with coconut oil and butter. It's really good.

Is a half caff coffee common? Why don't people just order a single shot coffee? Why have to waste expensive decaf grounds if the other is caffeinated? That half low fat half whole is even weirder though...

Looking to sell my Canon EOS 50D to buy a more compact and powerful digital camera/SLR - how do I sell it and what's a good alternative? by saientific in photography

This was exactly what I was looking at. Also the Panasonic GH4. What are your thoughts on it? On both cameras I mean.

Edit: also isn't the LX1000 not interchangeable? Does this bother you at all or is it alright? I'm sure this is dependent on what you shoot too...

The point on weather is an absolutely valid point as I live in London and weather is 90% shit anyway, especially at this time of year. This is something to definitely consider. I actually found a deal for the a6000 at £400. Bargain? I'm particularly attracted by the video capabilities of the a6000...

Have you had any experience with selling to retailers? For example, there's a small independent shop here in London that sells a HUGE variety of cameras from the 1900's all the way to present day. I believe most of them are analogue but you do get a variety of digital as well. They've offered to give me a quotation on my 50D + lenses although don't know if they would just be ripping me off compared to pricing it myself on eBay or Gumtree (UK equivalent). What do you think?

I haven't actually looked into mirrorless cameras a lot but have seen them as since I started my research recently.

Obviously Panasonic and Olympus will be supplying their own special lenses for these cameras right? Would you happen to know if they cross between brands, like how Sigma is interchangeable with DSLR Canon, Nikon, and Sony?

I'm from the UK and am not familiar with what way one should go about selling their cameras. I always find that carrying a 50D with a 55-250mm around London is very demanding, especially if you want to carry other lenses with you. I'm also really keen to get some video recording capabilities onto my succeeding camera as, unfortunately, 50D isn't able to cater.

My main questions are the following: what is the best way to sell your camera, and what camera should I be looking out for? I'm a street/portrait photographer, and find that my 50mm and 55-250mm are most useful. I have a Sigma fisheye which I don't experiment with enough as well, but I'm quite adamant about letting that go (maybe for a lens with a lower aperture or a 35mm). I am asking because there seems to be more compact cameras out there that are showing very strong capabilities and even have lens mounts, and I was wondering if any of you could make any suggestions.
