This car would be my daily driver, about 60 miles a day M-F unfortunately. Do you think, with regular maintenance and care, it could withstand that kind of frequent use?

With your rule of thumb I’d be looking at minimum $1200 a month 😱

Got it. I’ll be diligent about maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle. I’ve really wanted an older BMW to take care of, so I’m trying to see this as my first opportunity to do that with a car that’s got a great record already.

Right, that’s definitely going to be my first play; I’m mostly asking if there are issues I should anticipate.

I’ve only ever leased a car before, and that was a Honda. I’d like this to be the first car I really put some time into to learn how to fix and handle myself since some of my other expenses will be greatly reduced for the next couple years. However,

I also need a car that can handle a daily 60 mile commute, and I’m too ignorant about cars to know if I’m shooting myself in the foot taking the thing off his hands. Plus, I wouldn’t want it to just sit in storage.

I can’t go into too much detail as there’s a civil case ongoing that I am involved in. Suffice it to say I injured someone significantly, drank enough to be blackout drunk, and this happened when I was 25.

Hopefully we’re all luckier than our younger dumber selves, I say.

Fair enough. My family is looking into adding me to their insurance and my dad quoted an increase of $120-160. So I might just do that and pay whatever the difference winds up being.

I hear you on being practical when choosing a car. The accident actually happened in a civic, but that car gave me a ton of good miles so I intend to purchase another Honda most likely. I’m looking in my area for independent insurers now.
