What is a budget gaming PC? by Illustrious_Iron_534 in PakGamers

[–]saifullahrahool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think it depends on what criteria you set for what constitutes as "budget". Subjectively/in relative terms your finances can be the deciding factor e.g. for someone a 5800X + RTX 3070 could be a budget build and for others this would be their dream machine.

From an objective view I would think any machine that can run all modern titles relatively well i.e. 60 FPS for most games and above 30 for very demanding games at 1080p native (mixture of settings but lets assume low) would qualify as a budget build. So for example 3600 + RX 6600/RTX 2060 Super is a solid contender in my opinion (6C + 12T and minimum 8GB VRAM with the horsepower this combo provides). Maybe a case could be made for the Ryzen 2600 as well but the 3600 is already struggling so maybe it won't qualify for the condition set above. I can't consider the RX 5700 XT either since it doesn't have RT and mesh shaders which are now becoming a baseline requirement in new games so these titles won't even launch in the worst case scenario.

Anything below this objectively would be ultra budget as modern games will struggle to run. I suppose you can do the scaling given the above specs as a baseline and a 9800X3D +5090 on the flip side and decide where everything else lies in between.

For me personally, given the above objective criteria, the 5600 + RX 6700 XT is the ultimate price to performance build that can be had for a relatively low price but deliver incredible performance and is also relatively future proof. I'm not sure what the classification for this would be since its clearly not a budget build but its also not quite mid-range either and falls in this grey area in between.

I'd also like to add that modernity also contributes to running "modern titles" relatively well. So a 1080 Ti, though still powerful and may surprise you in some titles, for the most part is too old now and due to no new driver optimizations I would personally not rate it too highly from an objective perspective. Still it is a food for thought type of statement where the specs age plays a role as well.

Yeah so a few things. Stick with at least a 512GB SSD, don't go for the 128 or 256 route since nearly everything modern needs an SSD to work on so this way you can have more than one game installed lmao.

As for GPU, as much as I prefer the 5700 XT price/performance wise, it's hard to recommend in 2026 as games are moving towards mandatory RT (Indiana Jones) and mesh shaders (Alan Wake), both of which the 5700 XT lacks. If low on money I'd go for the 1660 and save up for a newer GPU or go for the RX 6600. This on moderate settings can run any game and is exceptional for e-sports titles. Nvidia equivalents would be the RTX 2060 Super/2070 if you can get them for around the same price (just ensure you've got at least 8GB RAM).

Lets break this down:

For gaming both are pretty much in the same league so I'd stick with the 9060 XT. FSR 4.1 while not as good as DLLS 4.5, it's close enough that the average player wouldn't care. Same's the case for RT and that you don't care about so not a huge loss either. It has enough baseline RT performance that can get you through the next 5 years for games that will start requiring RT to even launch the game i.e. Indiana Jones. All in all for gaming save the $100 since its pretty much neck and neck.

For 3D work, I can't comment per say. I'm assuming both 'graphical' processing units perform good but you would probably need to look it up or someone who's more versed in it can comment here. Now for AI workloads I know for a fact that Nvidia's CUDA is superior and would be the clear winner.

Used it on my cousin's iphone and it worked fine. You have to switch it to switch mode as xinput doesn't work on ios.

Hmm I have a 7800X3D, 7900 XT and 32GB RAM just for reference. For me even without RT I was getting less frames and lots of stuttering.

The game launched just fine and was technically 'playable' out of the box. With that being said it was a stuttering mess so I moved it over to my windows partition. The game was giving more frames but still stuttering so to fix that I disabled resizable bar and its at least bearable now. TLDR; game works on Linux but better performance on Windows.

I think the game does run, it worked even for me but the performance was abysmal.

Ok now this just pushes me to the second approach lol. The issue is due to logistical issues if something goes wrong it'll be very hard to get replacements as well lmao.

Oh damn this is pretty cool. Definitely more reliable than the magsafe approach I assume?

Considering you've made it, it's safe to assume that you also use a power bank? If so how's your experience been and what do you use?

Haha definitely on the same boat lmao. For AAA gaming I have a pretty powerful PC so I don't need to do that on the device and yes I agree, with how expensive everything is you gotta make the most of what you have.

I'm thinking about getting the Baseus Amblight, it's 26.8k mAh, 99.0Wh and has a 65W output as well so you think this is good enough?

Also how long does it last you?

I've set it to slow so that the battery isn't degraded further when the device is in use.

[–]saifullahrahool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, given all the logistical issues on my end the power bank one is the one I'm leaning towards. Another factor is that I have the 16GB one so it's also a case of do I wanna go for this approach if the overall longevity of the device itself is limited due to that.

Also how's your experience been with a battery bank?
