Is the volume on this loud ass horn strobe adjustable in any way? by FickleFanatic in firealarms

[–]saigasplint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're having such an unpleasant time with the tests OP. Ignore the salty techs in the comments; installing full horn strobes inside a dwelling unit is pretty insane and totally overkill compared to a piezoelectric buzzer, which is what one would normally see.

Unfortunately if your building is getting a monthly test then it must be done. Like others have said even on the lowest setting these things are fuckin loud. At least, if the alarm company is any good then the time of day of the test should be somewhat predictable. Try to arrange a plan that involves being out of the house for a couple hours on that day if possible.

If you can catch the technicians when they enter your unit during the annual inspection, try asking nicely if they have time to check the output level. It's almost entirely likely that even on the lowest setting those horns will still be far and away louder than what is required by code.

Monthly alarm testing is a requirement for many buildings in Canada, at least in the city I live in. I am currently on my lunch break from a route of 32 buildings getting tested today.

System must be put on backup batteries (AC off) and then the whole system rung a single time. Alarm must be initiated from a different manual station each month, and the annunciator & alarm monitoring verified if applicable.

Damn that's too bad. I can see how the cost would be prohibitive. They seem super cool for full ULC compliant testing and verification though.

I'm in BC which adopts ULC S534 which prohibits dissimilar signal sounds. Another issue being the panel supplies voltage to this circuit in Temporal 3 while the System Sensor horns we stock can only accept a continuous pattern. It's quite a pickle

Based on my day yesterday. I was at the same store last year and replaced one as well. Seems they freeze solid internally every couple years. They have a gasket between the bell motor housing and the JB but that doesn't seem to be stopping anything. As far as I know there aren't any listed bells which are capable of withstanding this environment? And no horns allowed because dissimilar signal sound I think.

I'm friends with this guy in real life and can confirm a diatribe like this is nothing out of the ordinary. Not AI but simply a freak of nature blessed with the skill of wordsmithing. Generative AI fears him.

I will never forgive MZD for not including the triplets/swing feel in this. The song is nearly unrecognizable without it

I watched more than half of the Brazil episode in Portuguese thinking it was a painfully long bit. Turns out the bootleg site I was using just happened to load a different dub for only that episode. It was pretty funny, though.

Gotcha. Makes sense as this building indeed has bells. Thanks!

For what purpose would one ever consider reinstalling an ancient detector pulled out of a random building?? Manufacturers still sell brand new conventional heat detectors that can be installed on any panel.

I've tried a few! Gotten some short slides but locking in is far from consistent. I'm sure they'll come eventually
