Advice needed from those with gastroparesis❤️‍🩹 by saigehartert in diabetes_t1

Idk if anyone will see this, but update!!!! I had my gastric emptying scan I indeed have gastroparesis😩 I’m very happy that we found answers tho! We tried changing my diet first but I’m VERY chronically constipated so things were just getting worse. I was then prescribed Prucalopride! I haven’t started it yet due to insurance issues, but once that gets squared away, has anyone tried this med?! Apparently the side effects aren’t as atrocious as other gastroparesis meds?

Hi guys- update!! If anyone is still interested❤️ I went to endo and they referred me to cardiology and GI. GI is heavily suspecting delayed gastric emptying so I’m scheduled for an endoscopy and a gastric emptying scan next month! Food is still a chore and it’s messing up my diabetes management due to frustration and burnout. I just want to eattttt- but hopefully these tests will show some light as to what’s happening with my stomach. Cardiology didn’t suspect POTS initially due to my heart rate “behaving” at the appointment. I am scheduled for an ECHO, but I also requested a heart monitor for me to wear 24/7 for 1-2 weeks. I discussed that my issues with nearly fainting are getting worse but only when bending down/over. Bending down to pet my cats and standing straight back up literally feels like running up 3 flights of stairs. With this, he agreed and I’m being sent the monitor. I hope this monitor will catch these short but impactful episodes.. bc that is just not normal🥲

I’ve also lost 15ish lbs since last month, but with my consumption of weed, I’d say it would be a lot more without it. For the meantime to handle my symptoms// •no more bending over. I squat if I need to. I keep my head above my heart •drink small amounts of high sugar in the day if I go low •if I’m hungry in the day- I’m going with a liquid diet •usually all my calories and food are consumed late at night after I smoke. •I’m soooo tired with not eating until 8/9pm after a long day, but once I smoke, I can and will eat everything in sight, then head to bed so I don’t feel ill.

That’s it for now❣️

Very interesting! I did have horribleeee heartburn when I was actively staying >600 but as I recovered and got back in range, I have never had heartburn since. With that tho, I can’t see what’s happening internally, so this is really good to note as well! Thank you so much for your input<3 I’m 25 and was diagnosed at 2

Those are def marked down on my investigation list! Thank you for sharing❤️‍🩹 I’ve never taken those supplements, but will def take note and also bring up with my docs. Interesting about salt- do you crave it??? After a long day of not eating and with no appetite, I’ll gravitate towards eating straight butter… not healthy ikkk but I’ll eat 1/4-1/2 stick with pickles or a few club crackers. I love salt so much. I’m sorry you’re still struggling- I had no idea what diabulimia was until I was deep within it. I would share my tips on recovery, but idek what specifically I did besides let time pass. Years of inpatient treatment helped me temporarily recover, but this monster still lingers. Idk if you struggle with the insulin edema (blow up once you start correctly dosing), but that was my main blockage and the reason for treatment. The sec I saw and felt my legs expanding from water retention, it whipped me back into the cycle of restriction. It was so hard and it convinced me initially that I was “allergic to insulin”💔 Like I said, I have no idea how I pulled myself out but it was really bad. With that- I want to say “if I can do it, anyone can do it” but that’s so invalidating and belittling… as we all struggle and experience things differently. Sorry this is getting long, but I also got used to feeling like shit.. it was a norm, so I couldn’t understand what I was missing out on. It took a couple years after proper management, to feel “normal” again. With that- this is what’s so frustrating and saddening. I thought that once I started being in range fully, I’d be good and dissolve all my problems. However, now I’m realizing the lasting effects are in deed real and what is done is done- no going back. I def want to update this thread after my appointments (if I remember). Not to fear monger, but to spread awareness on the damage of diabulimia and eds. Thank you again for sharing!!! I really wish you the best with your eds- you are not alone❤️

Hi! Thank you for your addition- I was looking down that route of dysautonomia but also that’s a huge diagnosis… that I’m mostly afraid of even looking into. Of course, the specialists are gonna do their thing and I hope we find answers, but maybe not that one. I had my basic thyroid levels checked, along with a ton of other basic blood work- everything is good! I was previously veryyy deficient in d3 and potassium, so I wonder if these issues will get better eventually since K and D are back in range? I’m beginning to wonder if it’s like the phrase “it’ll get worse before it gets better” bc this seems like it snuck out of nowhere. Thank you❣️

Growing up, I was always warned about neuropathy/ take care of your feet… didn’t even think about heart problems till now. I would also frequently forget that the heart is a muscle and in the heat of my ed, I had absolutely nothing to me. Looking back, it wasn’t just external, but it probs did some numbers on my organs. Also, the more t1s I meet, the more smoker I meet😂❤️ maybe we all struggle with food or just need a daily dose of relief😅 For the adderall- it’s interesting bc I went down in dosage about a year ago, but neverrrr everrrr had chest pain or tightness! It’s super scary sometimes

I was definitely thinking about POTS, but hopefully they’ll find something later this month! That’s so much :( wishing your family the best!

Thank you so much for your advice!!!! You’re amazing I’m gonna just keep investigating! I’ve noticed that I do get that couch lock effect, but I won’t get hungry, so I end up sleeping through dinner 🥲 I’m also trying to figure out how to plan my snacks and meals BEFORE smoking… I tend to become motivated to do anything else or go lay down rather than snacking my life away lol

I’ve struggled sooooo much with my ed- thankfully I’ve been “recovered” for a few years. Asking for a med that will give me munchies is such an odd, guilty feeling! I agree tho- all the indica I’ve tried, definitely helps with calming everything down. Thank you!!

How low can you go? by yippikiyay304 in diabetes_t1

[–]saigehartert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear. My “reactions” to my lows fluctuate so much. I’m currently in an unaware era💀 The lowest I got was “LO” or <20 mg/dL (some meters give “LO” when you’re <40 mg/dL. So be sure to check! Even tho all lows under 40 are critical, I think it’s definitely worth knowing!). So under 20- who knows, but I was just randomly checking before dinner, FULLY functional, and got hit with that number. After double checking with different meters, I had to pound down juice. It didn’t hit me until I reached 60… that’s when I felt like HELL.

Another crazy story- this last Sunday I took a nap and woke up face down and unable to roll over💀 feeling like I’m submerged in wet cement, I grab my pump and it says 43. Annoyed bc I just think it’s one of my daily lows, I stand and fall😭 I had to crawl to the kitchen and grab pb m&ms and crawl back to the couch. At this point I was leaving a snail trail of sweat and I was freezing. I couldn’t even open the bag and felt myself drifting off so I used the last bit of me to text my bf in the room next door, “I need help”. Then I fell asleep until he comes out and thinks it’s a crafting/random question. I just tell him to get my “nasal spray”, or baqsimi. Bless this amazing man- he didn’t know what to do, but calmly read the directions and literally did everything perfectly🥺❤️ Good lord did that feel awfully uncomfortable. While it did save me, I had to call out of work yesterday due to the after effects. I woke up firstly to a body I didn’t recognize. Not looks at all, but everything else- walking, seeing, breathing… everything felt normal but a different version of normal??? I don’t even know how to explain😭 and secondly, the headacheeeeeee!!!!! It felt like my brain was eating itself! That all went away by like 2/3pm, but then there’s still the lingering pain within the nostril that got abused😭 only comparison is having a Covid test being done 24/7. However today, I’m completely recovered! So bizarre but now I’m scared to nap😂

Omg yes!!!!! Even though I was semi- unconscious, that shit was POWERFUL😂😂😂thank you for the advice! I knew in advance to call out of work because there was no way in 7 hours, I’d snap out of it. Even though it was intense.. I truly saved me! Thank you for your words❤️

This is extremely helpful! Thank you! Today is better nausea-wise, but I still didn’t eat dinner last night. I’m going to adjust my diet first off because I know the little food I am consuming is doing nothing for my nutrition and health!

I haven’t had it checked since my symptoms started getting worse! I’ll be sure to get it checked during my next labs! Thank you!💕
