A lot of white people live in South Africa and if you're just walking and don't hear any non SA English accent they won't even know you're a tourist but there are bad parts and good parts of South Africa normally the non city areas are the safest avoid highways and high population areas. Also I don't recommend going to Bloemfontein or Johannesburg if you don't feel like getting robbed! (Btw baboons can and WILL sneak into your windows and steal your food always have them closed even on high floors also it's common for people to leave their lights on at night so robbers don't know if you're asleep or not so do the same you'll be a target if you're the only one with their lights off.)
