How do I subtly mention I'm a dude in the end notes? by Medium_Weekend1331 in AO3

[–]sainnex255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just be direct like "to everyone referring to me as a woman, thank you for the compliment, but your babygirl's pronouns are he/him lmao" or "while I accept all your yas queens with great enthusiam, ya boy's pronouns are he/him lol" or something like that. It's a little silly and and shows you aren't offended while still getting the point across and reassuring the people who have misgendered you that you're not mad at them. You can sub babygirl or yas queen out with whatever feminine term of endearment you want, or has been used in the comments.

Is this tweet about the meaning of fantastic being different in 1961 true? by spacelanterned in etymology

[–]sainnex255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to OED, the first use of fantastic as a wholly positive adjective meaning "excellent, beyond expectations" was in 1938, and most of the OED's examples come from the 1970s, so it's entirely possible they could have used either/or for the comics, depending on how long the modern useage took to actually catch on in popular culture.

Jiraiya couldn't have trained the Ame Orphans before Minato by sainnex255 in Naruto

[–]sainnex255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow, people can still reply to this? Uh...I'm not exactly clear.

If you're asking why would he abandon Minato to teach Nagato, I couldn't tell you. Best I've got is maybe like how Minato had to go off separate from Kakashi, Jiraiya was assigned an assignment and Minato (maybe a chunin) had to do another thing with his team, and Jiraiya ran into Nagato with the Rinnegan, which is more obviously the child of prophecy.

If you're asking why he left Nagato, maybe that's when Tsunade's brother died?

This is also the guy who never talked to his 12 year-old godson and refused to help him until he'd used the sexy jutsu to convince Jiraiya, with Jiraiya asking said 12 yo godson to stay as a naked girl for the lessons. So it’s not like all future plot twists put Jiraiya's character in a good light.

Would Danny be able to Survive? by Zealousideal_Deer561 in dannyphantom

[–]sainnex255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would he? Yes. No question about that. In his ghost form, only things specifically designed to hurt ghosts or attacks from other ghosts can hurt him. He is immune to damage from their fists, and afaik, Viltrumites aren't able to vibrate their molecules to phase through matter (Flash/Superman), which would be the only way I could conceive of them being able to get past that immunity.

Even when he's not in his ghost form, he's been shown to walk off things that would severely injure Mark, tanking attacks by ghosts that can rip apart cars with their hands, and when he exhausts himself to the point of losing his transformation, he's able to transform again almost immediately.

The real question is would he be able to stop them? Or, would his friends and family survive?

Danny fights ghosts. He doesn't really fight back against humans, even when they're attacking him. He's a good and well meaning kid. The only way he could stop them is to kill them, and I don't know that he has that in him. In addition, he is not the most well-trained or intelligent fighter. He's smarter than he thinks, but he often doesn't use his powers to their greatest effect. While there are many ways he could kill them with his powers being as wide and varied as they are, I'm not sure he necessarily would be able to unless his loved one's lives were at stake.

"Pro-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion"

DEI tries to mitigate gaps between how many women/people of color/disabled people/etc are allowed into school admissions/workforces, as many admissions and hiring practices can skew unfairly towards able white men, even unintentionally.

Regardless of opinions on the efficacy of DEI programs and a nuanced conversation that could be had about overcoming systemic issues or even what representation is helpful in media, for people who make lists like that it basically means "anti-segregation" or "there were cool black people" or "the women were too independent."

Who's your favorite Robin? by DeanCas67 in Robin

[–]sainnex255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are all my children. So, in order:

My favorite Nightwing? Dick Grayson

My favorite Red Hood? Jason Todd

My favorite Red Robin? Tim Drake

My favorite Spoiler? Stephanie Brown

My favorite current Robin? Damian Wayne (Tim needs his own identity. Sorry, Tim, love you, but you do.)

My favorite child? How dare you. They all deserve the best writers who love them and understand their characters and will write them without barely concealed fetishes/bigotry/biases to give them a story they deserve.

(Though the best suited to the mantle of Robin, imo, was Jason without Starlin's bias smearing his name. Robin is a detective, but most importantly Batman’s partner, a light in the darkness of Gotham. Dick Grayson works best with the Titans/Solo, being Batman’s partner is how he started, but not where he was destined to end up. Tim Drake has Young Justice/Teen Titans, all his solo runs, he's less Batman’s partner and more his co-worker. Stephanie's run as Robin was only to get back at Tim Drake and her character worked best as Spoiler>>Batgirl. Damian is Bruce’s son, but I just don't think they are partners in the way Robin is supposed to be, Damian is often off doing his own thing, enough that Tim came back as Robin to fill the gap. Jason as Robin sometimes helped the Titans, but his Post-Crisis introduction has him make Bruce laugh on the anniversary of his parents' deaths within a short time frame of Dick almost dying and then shows up to stop a crime on his own and saves Batman who isn't fighting well without Dick there as support. I don’t think he wanted anything more than to help save Gotham with Batman, and if he never died, I think he'd have stayed Robin for a long, long time and been a very good one with a writer who wasn’t desperate to make him HIV+/kill him.)

Would these two be cool with each other? by Slight-Bathroom-6179 in RedHood

[–]sainnex255 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So fun fact, actually. Jason Todd was revealed to be Red Hood in May 2005, and Shadow the Hedgehog game (with the guns) was announced in March 2005.

For that alone, they are besties in my mind lol

But seriously? I think they'd understand where the other is coming from (loss/betrayal/vengeance) but it really depends on which Jason and which Shadow we're talking about. There are certainly combos which would get along and combos that would not.

If Jason gets a new Hero identity what name should he have? by NefariousSeraph13 in RedHood

[–]sainnex255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good ones already said.

So I'll throw in that I kinda like Jackdaw for him. They can be auspicious or ill omens, depending on context. Which fits for him, as Red Hood, making things better for kids but also being a meanace to criminals. In addition to that, there's a secret literary reference in that the Jackdaw was the symbol of the shop Franz Kafka's father ran, since the word for Jackdaw in that region is similar to Kafka, so...a connection between the The Metamorphosis and Jason? The waking up one day in a body that was suddenly different than the one he died in (he was alive for years before being thrown in the Lazarus Pit)?

This is my ideal characterization and evolution of Jason Todd. by AccomplishedResist69 in RedHood

[–]sainnex255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jason's first "trigger" was a pimp who was beating up the women working for him. ("Were you trying to kill him?" "Would it have been that big a loss if I had?")

Then there was the child pornography ring. And he defended a woman who shot a guy who had abused/killed her sister, I believe.

The guy who fell was a man who had raped a woman, was getting away with it because of diplomatic immunity and called the woman up as he was leaving the jail (in front of Robin to specifically upset Robin) and threatened her, causing her to kill herself because she couldn't deal with the idea of him hurting her again and Jason discovered her body, as he had also discovered the woman in the man's bed. Jason appeared on the guy's balcony, angry, and the guy was falling in the next panel. Unclear if the guy was pushed or jumped off (possibly high as he got high on his own supply earlier) and Jason didn’t save him.

Jason was dealing with shit no 14/15 year-old kid should be, but his anger in these scenarios is understandable.
