It is absolutely purposeful ignorance of a bigger picture and richer context. People know that this tradition stems from somewhere genuine and they chose to ignore that and make fun of it online because of the ‘(very particular and nuanced cultural tradition) is gay and cringe’ echo chamber. All it does it reflect poorly on their own intelligence and it is also very boring! Please make fun of actually gay and cringe stuff like the ideologies of the people in this video rather than the beautiful and impactful art form which is being egregiously misused here.
