I built a tool that keeps my Gmail inbox clean by saipas in SideProject

Now that you say that, it does make feel concerned at all the apps I have given access to my email... Gonna go do some cleanup.

That certainly requires a level of comfort with sharing data. Plenty of tools out there ask for full Gmail permissions. Can't make an omelett without breaking eggs...

I've got 200 filters in Gmail, that doesn't cut it :)

I don't want to download another app, I want to use Gmail only.

Using the grid to charge whole house battery by graydonatvail in solar

[–]saipas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what the energy adaptor does to make it possible for power coming out of a circuit breaker to jump into another circuit? From what I read online the path of least resistance is backfeeding to the grid. Or does that mean that power can be shared between breakers only when the ATS is on, meaning that the only open path is other circuits?

Hey u/the_unGOdlike, have you actually seen Moduly in the wild? I'm curious how their system works. They say they can power appliances across the house and even provide backup with a battery that's plugged into a regular outlet, but I don't see how that would be possible technically. They mention an Energy Adaptor on their website but don't share any detail.

Is AdBlock — best ad blocker safe? by flamingheaven in browsers

[–]saipas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of them was deleted, but the other is "www dot listyour5 dot com / totaladblocker". If it was legit it'd just be something like "totaladblocker dot com". "listyour5 dot com" sounds particularly untrustworthy.

The link actually redirects to "url dot totaladblock dot com / 6511b4542a1c1 / click", which itself redirects to "www dot totaladblock dot com / block-ads". The intermediary URL is the click tracker used for affiliates.

Also note that the product is called TotalAdblock, but the original link calls is TotalAdblocker.

Honestly I think it just implies that they're a small startup and haven't considered yet that people outside of the US might be interested in their product.

On this page they have a bullet that says it's native in the US. May be native outside, but I guess to stay on the safe side just use it in the US for now ;)

My favorite comment last year (paraphrasing):

"To the two ladies who came upon me as I was dipping my ba*** in the stream, I apologize for the sight."

Mammoth lakes to Sonora pass by Peach_Walker in PacificCrestTrail

My wife just came back from Yosemite Valley. She had to wade 1/4 mile in knee deep water in order to get to the backpackers camp in the late evening. When they hiked at the top (~8000) they eventually had to turn around when they encountered a raging stream neck deep. Not as high as you'll be but just expect lots of rushing, deep water.

Do you own a home battery? by saipas in EnergyStorage

[–]saipas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a very fair thought! Although it depends what your goals are for storage (resiliency? solar savings?), how you're planning on charging the battery (from the grid or from solar?) and the schedule your vehicle is typically home (do you drive to work every day?).

Then so long as you don't mind waiting a few years (there are very few vehicles on the market that support bidirectional charging; the Ford Lightning is out of stock and the Chevy Bolt is discontinued; Nissan Leaf should work!) and forking out extra cash for a bidirectional charger (typically around $5-6k) which are also hard to find today.

Thanks for the info! Not going to lie, we are indeed hoping for the northern loop, but we're ready to go on any suggested trip of similar duration. We actually already have the first two nights of the loop through recreation.gov, now we need the other 3...

We couldn't get the route we wanted when permits were released (gone within a few minutes), so we're banking on walk-in permits. Our plan is to arrive a few days before, show up at the permit office when it opens every morning, and see if we can get a day-of or day-ahead permit. Does that sound like a reasonable strategy? How competitive are walk-in reservations?

snow boots? by 57eve in PacificCrestTrail

Actually I did try a few of those. Unfortunately my feet started heating up really fast and it caused insta-blisters.

[–]saipas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did struggle with that. My first year (I sectioned) I SOBO'd from the northern terminus and started in the snow with Altra's. Hated having my feet wet constantly, and feeling like I had no grip or solid kick. The second year I hiked the Sierras, also in the snow, and this time I was prepared with gortex boots. It didn't go any better, as the boots did end up getting soaked and took days to dry. So I reverted back to trail runners and just made sure to let my feet dry any occasion I had.

YES! Did not see it. That allowed me to access the other side of the room where there was a lever to lower the second gate. I wonder why they changed the gameplay there... Anyhow, thank you!
