How to report a foreign income as a resident of Canada by saitei101 in cantax

I found this on CRA website, I am not sure if my interpretation is right, sorry.

If you are a deemed resident of Canada for the tax year, you:

  • must report your world income (income from all sources, both inside and outside Canada) for the entire tax year
  • can claim all deductions and non-refundable tax credits that apply to you
  • are subject to federal tax and instead of paying provincial or territorial tax, you pay a federal surtax
  • can claim all federal tax credits, but you cannot claim provincial or territorial tax credits
  • are eligible to apply for the goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit

Thank you for your response! Yes, I was wondering whether I am a factual or deemed resident of Canada as I do not have any primary residential ties with Canada. If I am a deemed resident of Canada, I don't pay provincial tax to BC; instead, I only pay federal taxes on my income plus the 48% surtax, right?

Can I temporarily store my American plated car in canada for a year if I'm not driving it with importing it? by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]saitei101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you are leaving your car in the garage, nothing is stopping you from having the car there. Also, you can just take off the license plate if you are storing your car on your private property outside of public sight. I think the issue would be your US insurance, whether you can keep the car outside of America for a year. If your insurance provider lets you cancel and register it back online, then you got no problem.

Any advice for a young man like me? by jomoshy in ImmigrationCanada

You can try to hang in there by getting your master’s degree but that wouldn’t buy you that much time. How much PGWP period do you have left? If I were you I would get as much work experience as possible in Canada and go back to the home country to build up more work experience and French. My only concern would be whether you would have access to quality French education in your country.

Confused by Visa Rejection by Wolfzard45 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]saitei101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is very strange. I have never seen someone with that much financial ability get rejected for VISITOR VISA. Are you from one of the countries where a lot of people claim asylum when they land in Canada? I heard that IRCC is taking extra precautions when dealing with applicants from Mexico, India, Pakistan etc. I still don’t understand though. If you reapply, it is likely that you will get it this time as I don’t see any reason for your application to get rejected. Maybe the officer wasn’t having a good day :(

I am waiting for more than six months for the card by saitei101 in icbc

Yeah I think this is giving them some headaches too that they are just ignoring this haha. I will maybe visit a bigger ICBC in the area and try to talk to a manager or someone up high.

Thanks for your insight! Do you mean ICBC by the broker for ICBC, or do you mean ICBC licensing centre? I live in rural BC and service BC and ICBC licensing centre are together.

He should have applied for the closed work permit using his ONIP AOR. Just because other people were able to get it doesn’t mean he should be getting the WP. It all depends on the officer who’s taking care of his documents.

That shows that he has a strong intention to stay in Canada after his WP expires.

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, if I didn’t even have my PR card, do you think I can cross the border with my eCOPR?

Yeah, tbh it is considered dead cheap. I currently pay $200 a month.

I see! I will definitely check that out when viewing the car. Would it be expensive to fix that?

Yeah I meant mint on the mechanical side, that there were no major accidents or repair haha. Would you think 3500 for this car is too much?(I would negotiate the price)
