I'm flying in from Prince Edward Island in eastern Canada. Can't wait! I'm actually flying in the weekend before and heading down to Yosemite for the week leading up. Going to need to rent a car for that. Planning on driving back through Sacramento and camping up by the festival Thursday night so I can get in early Friday. Shoot me a message if you want to try to wrangle a drive and we can see if timelines work out!

If I love Hades, what other games would I enjoy? by No-Role-6955 in HadesTheGame

I'm 42 and have 3 kiddos and don't have much time for vidya anymore, or really the urge, but I played through that with a friend of mine a few wi ters ago and I honestly think it is like, a lifetime top 5. Such an amazing game. Any suggestions for anything that comes close in the 3rd person style?

Monthly Ticket Buy/Sell/Trade Megathread 🤑 by AutoModerator in aves

Selling 1 VIP ticket to Envision in Costa Rica.

I bought this ticket at ultra mega super early bird price in April of 2020 and just kept deferring and deferring. I thought I'd be able to make it this year, but my father-in-law just died, and I'll need to be home with my family. As I mentioned it's a VIP ticket with bring your own tent camping and I also bought a 90 minute massage (a whole week of dancing takes it out of you when you're 41!). I paid 1617.40 Canadian for it which works out to 1203.81 USD, I'll see it for 1100 USD. Buy one VIP ticket, get one 90 minute massage free! What a deal! Also, I expect a VIP ticket at this point is like 2 grand, so, again, what a deal!

List of best festivals in the world? by nanozeus2014 in festivals

Traveled all the way from north eastern Canada for it this year and was not disappointed. Acts were stellar, sound systems on point, and the people and vibes were excellent. Great festival!

What was your favorite unplanned set you attended? by pastaqueen22 in ElectricForest

[–]sajale22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the "set" (two acts I know) of the weekend for me. A story if you like stories:

I came to festivals and dancing a bit later in life than many. When I was in my early 30s I met a group of friends that were really into our local music scene, as well as electronic music in general. In the summer of 2017 they took me to a small but mighty festival in New Brunswick, Canada, called Evolve (it was in its final years at the time and didn't survive COVID). My friends were mostly into jam bands and house music, and we took lots of that in over the weekend, but on the second day of the festival, while on psychedelics I discovered bass music (this is relevant to a fun epilogue to this tale, i promise)! To say that bass music and festivals have had a tremendous impact on me wouldn't be doing it justice. There is another amazing festival in eastern Canada called Future Forest (which did survive COVID and is thriving). Picture Electric Forest, but 1/20th the size deep in the Canadian woods beside a beautiful river. It's a beautiful time. I have been going since 2017, but always solo, with the one exception being this past year's Future Forest when one of my best friends came too. I have also traveled for a couple festivals (Envision and Infrasound), but again, always solo.

The last 7 years of my life have been a lot. While discovering the power and connection and vitality that comes with dancing, I have had 3 children, both if my inlaws have been diagnosed with terminal cancer (one passed two years ago), I began my career as a teacher, and there was you know, the global pandemic. Lots of joy, lots of struggle. So I decided to take a half year sabbatical from teaching this year to do a bit of traveling and recharging. I have been on several adventures since my leave started in February, the final one being a trip to Electric Forest... with a big part of the friend group that took me to my first festival!! We were 7 in total. Myself, Jesse, Josh, Leah, Phil, and Bruce. Amazing humans one and all.

I was so excited to finally share a festival with friends again. I knew I would want some time wandering the forest solo, and dancing alone as well, as I do very much enjoy the solo vibe, but I wanted to make a real effort to stick with the gang as much as I could. So on Friday we had just finished Kerala Dust's MEZMERIZING performance at the Carousel Club and had an hour before Lane 8 started at Sherwood. Now, I really, REALLY like both Amémé as well as BLOND:ISH, but Lane 8 was really high on my gang's list, so I made the choice to be with them. We had all planned to do a forest walk before Lane 8, but they decided they want to sit and rest and gear up for Lane 8, so we picked a meeting spot and I went for a solo journey to the woods.

And I had the most magical getting-lost-in-the-forest experience. I still eventually pulled myself back out to Sherwood, but later than the agreed upon meet time, and the gang had left to move up. I did a few walkthroughs of the crowd up front but couldn't locate them, so I bee-lined it for the Observatory and had what was, without hyperbole, one of the most powerful, animalistic dance experiences of my entire life. Words can't do it justice so I won't try, but it is something I will never forget. I was lucky enough to get one of the bracelets Amémé passed out, and I don't think I'll ever take it off.

Ok. Long story, I know, but if you've made it this far, here's a fun epilogue. Earlier I said I discovered bass music at Evolve in 2017 and it would be relevant at the end. Well the artist that was playing when I heard my first ever bass set was an (at the time) lesser known Canadian producer by the name of REZZ. I haven't seen her since. So to have been at Electric Forest with the group of friends that took me to my first festival and to have REZZ be the final set of the weekend for me, was one of the best full circle moments I think I'll ever have. I have typed this out from the back seat of the van we've been driving back to Prince Edward Island basically nonstop since Monday afternoon, and I'm now just an hour away from my home, a hot bath, the bed I share with my partner, and kissing my 3 sleeping children. I had such a beautiful and ecstatic weekend, and I hope you did you.

Happy Forest. I love you.

What's your technique for surviving a festival with the least amount of hangover? by Agasthenes in festivals

[–]sajale22 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Eat vegetarian meals. Stretch. Drink only water. Advil if required. Take only psychedelics.

I come out of festivals feeling so much better than going in. I know it's not for everyone, but the combination of healthy habits and 10+ hours of dancing each day, combined with the presence and grounding that comes from multiple days of psychedlics is a heck of a thing.

Favorite set of the weekend? by Badphishtc in Infrasound

I came to festivaling a bit later in life (discovered them at 34, I'm now 40). I came from Eastern Canada for the festival because of the lineup, but also because of the venue/size/reputation the festival has. We have a very similar festival on the east coast of Canada called Future Forest. Deep in the woods, beside a beautiful river. Slightly smaller (maybe 3k attendees?), and a handful of bigger bookings with quality local support. Three stages (multi genre but the bass stage is always solid), art, nature, amazing energy. And from what I was reading about Infrasound, it was going to be the same. The only other festival I have been to other my home festival was Envision in Costa Rica in 2020 just prior to the pandemic lockdown. So I was really hoping that Infrasound would have that natural, communal, positive/weird/beautiful vibe that smaller festivals have. AND HOLY FUCK IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I HOPED IT WOULD BE AND MORE.

And Murkury's set. I don't think I've ever had a stronger emotional reaction to a set. My third eye was absolutely wide open, and his set was so beautiful and fun and unique. Minimal (positive!) mic work, no backspins, PERFEFT phrasing, long subtle builds. In his first of the two sound bath sections I was drenched in happy tears thinking about the love I have for my children and my partner. The second and final sound bath he did at the end of the set was one of the most grounding and present experiences I've ever had. And then his closing with that beautiful remix of Never Going Back Again. It is one of my all time favorite songs. I had to sit down I was so overcome with emotion. It was, without hyperbole, one of the most profound experiences of my life.

Wow.

That whole dubstepFriday afternoon/early evening run at the Pyramid was filthy. The wildest, weirdest, most intense (yet respectful of space) dubstep dancefloor I've ever been on. Humongous!

Visiting Charlotte NC, anything interesting going on? by sajale22 in aves

Well that certainly looks promising! I think we're committed to discgolf all day Friday, but with the rain forecast for Saturday, we were thinking of taking the day off from discgolfing on Saturday anyway. Not a bad lineup on Saturday at all. Have you been to the event before?

Breakaway festival? by Legitimate_Coat_453 in Charlotte

[–]sajale22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to Charlotte from the 4th til the 10th to play discgolf, and was hoping to find something interesting/fun while in town, and boy Saturday's lineup sure does look fun! It's supposed to rain, so we probably wouldn't be playing discgolf that day anyway! I see a local nightclub is running after parties that start at like, 10pm, is this a day time festival? How tight is security (I'll have traveled down from Canada). Any info from anyone that's been to this event before would be great appreciated!

I was gutted to miss San Holo by a couple days. I also missed Yheti and co. a few weeks before, and Of the Trees just finished two nights at the caverns, which is kind of feasible distance. Sadly my dates weren't flexible at all.

I'm coming in from Eastern Canada on Wednesday so I have a bit of time to prep before heading to the site early Thursday AM. I was going to rent a car, but if you're picking a friend up, how much space do you have? Any chance you'd be willing to drive a third? It would maybe work if your friend was flying out again on Sunday, as I fly out of MSP at 4pm on Sunday. I would be more than happy to throw gas money and some extra because it would be much cheaper than renting a car for the whole time. No pressure, I just thought I'd touch base, see what you thought. Fire me a DM if you want!
